DMS Wasmuth firing on surfaced sub .... DMS Long firing on surfaced sub .... DMS Perry firing on surfaced sub .... Sub slips beneath the waves damn, even though we sink the sub, the enemy is aware of our invasion TF coming in... we moved the carriers closer to Peleliu and now Mindanao to make it look like a carrier sweep to only decimate enemy LBA and I wanted to have the enemy think the carriers would retire South tomorrow without an invasion incoming but that plan failed... the invasion TF goes into position tomorrow to sprint in to Manado in two days... this is the next major invasion and the most important since we´ve attacked Timor... if I would be Rainer, I would now throw in the kitchen sink because Manado with a potential level 9 airfield in Allied hands is going to be a major disaster... with only some 20000 troops defending the place there´s no chance to hold against the Corps we´re going to land so it would be up to the Navy and airforce but it´s doubtful they would be able to stop us but a clash of both sides forces could be absolutely bloody... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Dadjangas , at 78,93 Weather in hex: Light rain Raid spotted at 45 NM, estimated altitude 31,000 feet. Group patrol altitude is 15000 , scrambling fighters between 6000 and 38800. Time for all group planes to reach interception is 36 minutes there you go with a perfect example of how borked this coordination FLAW really is... while you won´t be able to "coordinate" your fighters from a level 9 airfield with a hundred times the conditions you dream of, you would be able to coordinate a dozen units from five different, tiny airfields with different ranges to the target and with the units even coming from different directions... this is so stupid, stupid, stupid... sooo... while the enemy didn´t launch any bombers from Babeldaob yesterday, we moved the carrier fleet closer to Mindanao and the enemy had bombers at Cagayan that actually took off... they took off and most fighters from Davao and Cagayan failed to link up with the bombers of course... amazing that 9 out of 10 attacks are screwed up in AE... and what do we see then? Three fighter units on a sweep from THREE different bases "coordinating"... lol... while I can somewhat imagine how fighters from Cagayan can join fighters from Davao I wonder how fighters from Babeldaob are able to do that... again, I don´t know what is more stupid, the fact that two or three fighter units from the same base fail to fly together, or the fact that carrier based fighters try (and btw fail all the time) to escort LBA strikes if in range or that you get the most aircraft over the target at the same time if you just try to have them to launch from as many bases from as many ranges and directions... everything that is related to the new "coordination" introduced in AE is totally beyond any logic... my opponent of course wasn´t happy either how this turned out, the fighter "sweep" (failed escort attempt) came in, was spotted and shot to pieces by the diving Hellcats... after no strikes from Babeldaob yesterday, I didn´t expect the bases from Mindanao launch a strike today to be honest... Rainer replied: "500 Hellcats? lol"... I then replied that we could have many more, this number can be sent up by our CV/CVL alone, with the same number coming from CVE, which was an exxegaration of course, I guess we´ve got some 700 carrier based Hellcats near the front at the moment but not all within the carrier fleet strike force moving around, some 150 on CVE are now tasked to cover the invasion TF itselve against enemy airstrikes. A lesson we´ve learned during our Sorong invasion when the CV TF one hex off Sorong wasn´t spotted but the invasion TF being spotted of course (no air spotting necessary) and only the invasion hex attacked with BC Repulse being hit by a torp from a Frances... now we´ve got four CV/CVL TFs (all having 4 CV/CVL, 1 fast BB, 4 CA/CL/CLAA and 12 Fletcher class DD) and a CVE TF with six CVE in our carrier strike force that is covered by a surface combat TF lead by an Iowa class BB. At the moment we´ve more than halve a dozen more CVE and another fast BB moving to the front, a British CV being upgraded to 55 capacity (having lots of Corsairs), a British CVE is closing on Darwin (also loaded with Corsairs [:D]) and a British CVL arriving in Colombo soon which will carry 40 Corsairs (there´s only one squadron on this ship)... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Vinh , at 65,59 Weather in hex: Thunderstorms Raid detected at 40 NM, estimated altitude 6,000 feet.
