the game is now five weeks ahead of the AAR, going to try to close in during this week again, many unimportant turns that arenīt interesting at all, only including them to have all monhts complete, otherwise Iīm getting to hear Iīve edited things out when I say "itīs all in my AAR"... this turn is an interesting one though... AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Jun 10, 44 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on TF, near Bataan at 78,77 Weather in hex: Overcast Raid detected at 11 NM, estimated altitude 33,000 feet. Estimated time to target is 4 minutes Japanese aircraft A6M5 Zero x 36 A6M5b Zero x 9 N1K1-J George x 22 Ki-43-IIb Oscar x 9 Ki-44-IIa Tojo x 5 Ki-44-IIc Tojo x 11 Ki-61-Id Tony x 7 Ki-84a Frank x 13 Allied aircraft F6F-3 Hellcat x 50 Japanese aircraft losses A6M5 Zero: 2 destroyed N1K1-J George: 2 destroyed Ki-44-IIa Tojo: 1 destroyed Ki-44-IIc Tojo: 1 destroyed Ki-61-Id Tony: 1 destroyed Ki-84a Frank: 1 destroyed Allied aircraft losses F6F-3 Hellcat: 6 destroyed ahh, sh*t... Iīve moved the carrier fleet closer to the main IJ airfields around Manila to draw an airstrike but forgot that the enemy always has a mine TF of some AMc at Bataan to clear any sub laid mines there... this of course means that my carriers are attempting to attack these ships as Iīve kept the bombers at 7 hexes range... oh well, we start of with the usual messages of "fighters fail to link up, proceeding alone/returning to base"... the day I will see a whole turn with lots of action without ten dozen "error" messages Iīm going to send a cheque to the responsible person... canīt say the Hellcats did really bad but we lose more than a dozen here... Hellcats arenīt in short supply, 70 skilled pilots are with all the new carriers weīve received in the last months as these had to be eqipped with new aircrews because the normal 50 skilled ones canīt be used for frontline duty... the day doesnīt start the way I would have thought... my fault, I should have stood down ALL my bombers... Iīve asked Rainer if he had found a way to order his bombers to attack CVE only as this is the third time in a row now that my CVE are attacked instead of the harder to hit fleet carrier task forces... let alone the difference in flak between the CVE TFs (AA around 5000) and the CV TFs (AA around 12000)... Wake Island ends up with 50+ flt damage but low sys damage so I expect her to be saved if not attacked again... a CVE being put out of action for three or four months for over a hundred enemy ac shot down, guess thatīs an acceptable ratio, especially as the enemy is losing these pilots over my fleet... BUT this ended when still 50% of the bombers were left to drop down and start their attack runs... and again one of the two CVE TFs was targetted while the four CV TFs were left alone... despite sever storms, having lost 50% of the bombers against Cap and flak fire from a dozen CVE and a dozen Fletcher class DD the bombers scored 5 torpedo hits knocking out a total of six CVE after the second wave... looks like this operation is not going as planned... two well sized strikes and both results are ok with me, Cap not being bullet prove is a good step forward, just to say something positive at times... now if Allied flak would also be realistic, that would be the next step forward... main problem here was the short pre warning time of only 28 minutes, weīre used to 60 minutes or more, guess most of the Cap didnīt even reach this strike... clear sky and I would expect at least two CVE being sunk... the enemy achieves a 11% hit rate against undamaged CVE in severe storms, I donīt want to compare that to the 3% hit rate of my torp bombers in clear sky against wrecked ships... [:(] the fighter vs fighter kill rate is something better not to be commented, this is just wrong IMO, no matter if escort or not... just yet another dive massacre... I would expect the Hellcats win high time, but what the game brings up in such engagements is just too extreme and couldnīt even be resembled in real life against masses of crappy IJ aircraft piloted by absolutely green pilots... in this case, we fight advanced IJ fighters with the same skill as our pilots (if not better skill, like the KB fighters that are now at Manila) Allied Ships CVE Gambier Bay, Torpedo hits 1 [8|] CVE St. Lo, Torpedo hits 1, on fire [8|] CVE Casablanca CVE Barnes CVE Hoggatt Bay, Torpedo hits 1 [8|] CVE Anzio, Torpedo hits 1 [8|] CVE Begum CVE Wake Island, heavy damage CVE Prince William CVE Marcus Island CVE Kitkun Bay CVE White Plains, Torpedo hits 1 [8|] Aircraft Attacking: 26 x G4M1 Betty launching torpedoes at 200 feet Naval Attack: 1 x 18in Type 91 Torpedo 11 x G4M2 Betty launching torpedoes at 200 feet Naval Attack: 1 x 18in Type 91 Torpedo 7 x G4M1 Betty launching torpedoes at 200 feet Naval Attack: 1 x 18in Type 91 Torpedo CAP engaged: VF-1 with F6F-3 Hellcat (0 airborne, 15 on standby, 8 scrambling) 0 plane(s) not yet engaged, 6 being recalled, 0 out of immediate contact.
