I have been hoping/waiting for a remake of CC2 for years. As others already said the campaign system and force system is superior (imo) to any other game in the series.

I would also love some more games using the same system, but I realize it only works for campaigns that are similar in the way they can be divided naturally into different areas to divide resources to.

wodin -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/7/2010 10:58:41 PM)

pellen,

Why don't you turn your hand to PC wargame design? I like the look of your WW1 game but with no one to play against it would just sit on the shelf...

pelle75 -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/8/2010 5:55:46 AM)

There is a VASSAL module for my game hopefully out soon. I tested it this weekend and it was really fun, almost like sitting at the same table face to fe. And, yes, I have tried to hobby develop a number of pc wargames, they just don't ever get finished...

I don't want to hijack this thread though. The original subject is much too good for that. [8D]

jomni -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/8/2010 6:19:50 AM)

Playing Vassal is a good experience.  But rules interpretaion, book keeping, combat resolution is still a chore depending on the game.

By the way, screenshots does not look like a remake of CC2.
It looks as if CC4/5 was modded to depict Operation Market Garden.
So our favorite campaign system might be replaced with a new one. :(

insted say if matrix was half smart and did the russian front with BGs say with pick your campain AG north, center or south...air strikes...arty buy your own inplacements..bunker types ..fox holes and camouflarg....20 onscreen units and be able to have troops enter the battle when its ongoing...then you would be moving close combat forward so it does not die on the vine.(as much as i love cc2 the remakes are wearing thin)i first start playing close combat with the cc1 demo.

Fix the "crawl of death"!
No experience with WAR and TLD remakes but I think they're still there.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

screens i'm talking about is nothing new (from the newsletter)

pelle75 -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/8/2010 7:58:57 AM)

Unfortunately I must say that if the new game does not come with the old cc2 campaign system I am not likely to buy it. While I do find Market Garden more interesting as a game subject than the other Close Combat campaigns, it is the campaign system I want to see more of, not Arnhem.

Andrew Williams -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/8/2010 8:34:06 AM)

Jomni, i think you're fixating a bit... three exact same posts in 2 minutes is a bit weird.... and you are now corrected.

jomni -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/8/2010 8:39:10 AM)

I know, gotta keep away from the forums.
Go to wargmer and I am asking the same question. hehe!

JudgeDredd -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/8/2010 9:09:21 AM)

Thanks Jomni. I don't subscribe to the newsletter so was unaware. Maybe I'll rectify that now

SkyStrike -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/9/2010 3:32:17 AM)

You guys all must know that the Original "Close Combat II: A Bridge Too Far" CAN be played with widescreen resolution...

Go Start - Run - regedit -
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Close Combat\2.00
Edit the ScreenX and ScreenY values to your liking, f.e. your desktop resolution. After this you cannot enter F8 Options Screen again or you will have to do it again, rather change the options from regedit.

Your CC2 should now look like these:

Come play it on GameRanger.com

- SkyStrike, GR: 321656

----
P.S. to stay on topic: I dont look too thrilled about that new CC5 look. I like the original CC2 campaign, requisition, AI and small maps.

Thanks for the tip...

also I'm confused about the CC2 remake....it looks more like a CC5 mod...

It is clearly Close Combat The Longest day modded and set in the Market Garden operation.

Nobody said it is a re-make of CC2.

JudgeDredd -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/9/2010 11:23:12 PM)

Well I honestly can't recall if anyone used the word remake or not...but I genuinely thought it was the same game and engine and prettied up...I didn't expect any major changes and certainly not to the campaign engine.

I can't say whether I'm disappointed about that or not as I can't remember the specifics of the game and what I liked about it so much, but I would've thought the campaign engine was part of it.

Players used the word on numerous occasions. The developers remained silent on the matter. This is traditional in the Close Combat World [:)]

Quted from the newsletter

Based on the original Close Combat title depicting Operation Market Garden, Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far, the remake is slated for release some time this summer.

JudgeDredd -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/9/2010 11:45:31 PM)

Black and white then! I do hope nothing major has changed. I would definitely like to get the old feel back of that game. It was second to none in the series imo

wodin -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/10/2010 12:09:12 AM)

The pics of the campaign look like CC5 campaign system not the CC2 system....confusing...

jomni -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/10/2010 1:52:51 AM)

So can you choose which sector to resupply? Haven't seen that in the screenshots.

knilli -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/10/2010 3:14:10 AM)

I loved CC2. Alone or with Mods. I think I still have it somewhere. Nevertheless I will get the remake. I got CC3-Iron Cross after I played the original one. And I do not regret it!

So yes, I am looking forward to it! [&o]

Fallschirmjager -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/10/2010 4:00:19 AM)

This is probably the only CC remake I would buy. The original was easily the best in the series and playing on expert as the Allies was still almost impossible no matter no bad the AI.

That's probabily because of the supply / purchase points system.
If the "remake" uses battle groups, I don't know how it will pan out as it actually made CC4 and CC5 less challenging.
Hoping for the best... would be nice if they figure something out (like a hybrid of both campaign systems).

yeeeooowww!

now there's a concept worth persuing

Andrew Williams -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/10/2010 6:55:27 AM)

hey

What about a BftB operational layer over a classic Close Combat tactical layer.......... ?

jomni -> RE: Close Combat - Last Stand at Arnhem (6/10/2010 9:05:12 AM)

Maybe Battle Groups with supply points?  That way, I can't just select the best troops the first time around.
There's also a mod for locked battle groups but that is way too restrictive.

That's fine I wasn't taking anything from that form of view, just merely presenting "my own". I can play the ones I have on my Netbook now anyways. [:)]

Netbook's are amazingly expensive for what you get. thanks for driving up hardware prices for all of us by purchasing a re-packaged calculator! Why don't you just give them 20% of your disposable income each month while you're at it? [:D]
