Go Chiefs. If you werent watching, you missed one hell of a game.

It was a great game. Right down to the wire.

Schanilec -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 4:14:41 PM)

I did it again. UNP[:)]

USSAmerica -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 4:38:01 PM)

Helmut sighting in the Opponents Wanted subforum.  [:D][:D][:D]

Mike Solli -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 5:04:18 PM)

What's the significance of that, Mike. (Guess I've been gone awhile. [;)])

This job is in Toledo OH.

Toledo?! Have you ever been there. They couldn't pay me enough. Well, maybe they could, but it would have to be awfully high. The place is a pit. I hope the job is a good one.

No, we've not been there. I suspect it is another rust belt town like most of the stuff on the lakes. There's worse places, trust me. There's always a nice area in any city, or nearby. Might be interesting to live on the lake up there.

Helmut is also Japan and 5th Guards Tank and one or two other id's that I've forgotten. Nothing but a pure troll.

Trolls always come back.......hell look at Diehl. What's it been....10 years now? Never owned....never played.....still trolling these boards all the same. You go where the system allows you.

Nikademus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 5:48:43 PM)

morning tithe.

Bit the bullet yesterday. Kindle replaced. Books redownloaded. Thank Amazon for their Annotation backup feature. Only lost the last chapter in the book i'm currently reading.

Next on the Price is not Right will be the trunk repair, followed by paying for replacing my meds as well as a manditory doctors visit (all uninsured) because they have to see (i.e. "interrogate") me in person to verify i'm not a dealer in disquise and to personally hand them a copy of the Police report.

It's very depressed right now. There is a very nice fort up there called Ft. Meigs. War of 1812 era. Pretty cool to wander around. Not much to the city unfortunately. Most people who migrate from Toledo to Columbus do so because of a lack of jobs and the general dreariness.

Man, I'm really sorry about that Nik. Things will look up. Just keep plugging away.

Nikademus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 6:04:01 PM)

Thx Mike. I'm trying to look on the bright side......at least my laptop was not in the trunk that night. Overall this has been a good fall so I have more to be thankful for...much more than to be pissy about. Ok the having to see my doc in person thing was REALLY annoying i'll admit.....i figured a faxed copy would be sufficient but no......any way they can to get money in. On top of that the nurse was really snarky with me over the phone when i protested the fact. Its no wonder Health insurance is nigh unaffordable now. Oi. [:@] [:D]

Terminus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 6:18:08 PM)

Just finished listening to an audio book of Massie's "Dreadnought". It was amusing to hear the pauses when the reader had to take a running start at German and French names...[:D]

Chin up old boy. I really feel for you. Last year my cousin went down to the cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) for the WCHA playoffs. His Suburban got busted into, Laptop, CD's, and briefcase all missing. Briefcase and laptop had all our farm and tax information inside. Major downer. Police found the empty briefcase down by the river. We all placed ourselves on credit alert. So far so good. I think we dodged a giant bullet.

Nikademus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 6:43:34 PM)

So a guy walks into this bar....(or BrewPub in my case)

and sits down for a nice session of [re]setup the Kindle and get back to serious reading. Older gentlemen walks in with his noticably younger GF/signifigant other. More noticably still....she is more than a little tipsy. So what does the older guy do? He orders more high octane beer for himself and the missus. She starts to talk up the reader of the Kindle asking all sorts of questions like "Is that a Kindle??!!!" "Dont you miss real books?" "What are you reading?" "wow....i love WWII subjects..."

meanwhile the older BF is looking more and more like its tough to keep the smile on his face. Oi! Maybe the 2nd guy at the bar she did this too enjoyed it (he looked amused) but i certainly wasn't. That and she almost spilled my beer all over the only one hour owned Kindle.

After a half hour plus of this, the guy says to me (whilst the GF is ./......'somewhere else') "You know.....i'd be happier if she was here spending time with me right now.....but all the same, at least she is really into beer."

awwwwwwwkward!

This must be my week for it......

I almost ended up in that boat. I actually left my laptop in my trunk during one of those Sat evening parks. I got too itchy under the neck about it and stopped the practice fortunately. Wish i had had the same sense about my bookbag.....but habits die hard. It usually goes everywhere with me.

Schanilec -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 6:56:26 PM)

Theft isn't big here. I never lock my truck. Then I don't leave anything in my truck. Because on occassion we do have break-ins. But on the other hand they usually get caught. But why go through the hassle.

Schanilec -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 6:59:15 PM)

Also depending where I go and/or for how long. I leave the truck running and unlocked. At -30F. or more that comes in real handy.

Nikademus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 7:00:12 PM)

The pleasant chap who sold me my replacement Kindle is a recent transplant from Texas. His view was...."We don't have alot of petty crime down there.....because you know....in Texas, we can shoot people."

Never thought i'd miss Texas.......

Sounds like typical rust belt stuff. Cost of living is waaaay less than here. Amazingly low.

Mike Solli -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 7:22:52 PM)

Good point Mynok. The cost of living is very low up there. You could stash quite a bit by working there for a few years.

JWE -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 9:17:48 PM)

Oh, hootz gazooties! was at shopping at Winn Dixie today looking for sheesy cracker kinda stuff and saw a big hump of Double Glouscester. it was $21 on the tag, reduced to $4.99. Okey doke, snagged that one. Kinda sorta like it when the dummies don't know what they got. Kinda sorta don't like it when all they know is Kraft Jalapeno pepper jack slices. Woof !!!

Mynok -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 9:40:50 PM)

I'm not really looking for a launching point job. Pretty much ready to settle down and finish up somewhere. We've discussed letting the wife stop working if we do end up moving up there. She is actually kinda attracted to that option, though the medical field will sorely miss her neo-natal skills.

One thing about depressed areas is there are lots of people in need and both of us are highly interested in charity-type work. We both do stuff here as we can with our schedules, but with a more normal one, we'd have even better opportunities. So that's appealing too.

That might be the place for you then. You'd be about 3-4 hours north of me with Mogami (if he's still around) somewhere in between. I hope you and your wife don't mind really cold winters.

Mynok -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 10:11:05 PM)

I don't. I love snow. My wife would probably use it as an excuse to get a hot tub. [8D]

We'd have to rethink our transportation I believe as we have a BMW convertible and a Corolla right now, but that's doable. We've been pondering a truck for a while for gardening purposes.

And if we do move up there, we will definitely have a summit.

Nikademus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 10:43:48 PM)

I sometimes wish i had that flexibility in thinking re: relocation. I'm way too region-centric though. I would not have survived Texas for long even had i found a job there.

Hopefully my luck here in Seattle will continue. Even after 20 years i still love it here in the PacNW.
