Good point Mynok. The cost of living is very low up there. You could stash quite a bit by working there for a few years.

I'm not really looking for a launching point job. Pretty much ready to settle down and finish up somewhere. We've discussed letting the wife stop working if we do end up moving up there. She is actually kinda attracted to that option, though the medical field will sorely miss her neo-natal skills.

One thing about depressed areas is there are lots of people in need and both of us are highly interested in charity-type work. We both do stuff here as we can with our schedules, but with a more normal one, we'd have even better opportunities. So that's appealing too.

That might be the place for you then. You'd be about 3-4 hours north of me with Mogami (if he's still around) somewhere in between. I hope you and your wife don't mind really cold winters.

Really cold winters? Ohio? I'd counting your blessings.

Schanilec -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/1/2011 11:14:49 PM)

And again. How does this keep happening. UNP[:'(]

I believe this to be a fabrication. I believe that you were looking at the computer screen when this was typed. Perhaps you *looked* at the label and then, after looking that the label, looked at the computer screen whilest you typed the label contents.

So, yeah, JWE-I've got a question. Were you looking at the label whilest typing? [:'(]

Hi all,

Just finished listening to an audio book of Massie's "Dreadnought". It was amusing to hear the pauses when the reader had to take a running start at German and French names...[:D]

I can listen to audio books of fiction novels but history books in audio... well... I don't know... it is kinda sacrilege...

Hi all,

morning tithe.

Bit the bullet yesterday. Kindle replaced. Books redownloaded. Thank Amazon for their Annotation backup feature. Only lost the last chapter in the book i'm currently reading.

Next on the Price is not Right will be the trunk repair, followed by paying for replacing my meds as well as a manditory doctors visit (all uninsured) because they have to see (i.e. "interrogate") me in person to verify i'm not a dealer in disquise and to personally hand them a copy of the Police report.

Ahhh... at least Kindle as such isn't terribly expensive... luckily you still digitally own all the acquired books so no loss there...

Hi all,

Today it is "All Saints' Day" here... public holiday... it is a day of remembrance for all dead - families go to cemeteries to remember their loved ones with candles and flowers...

Leo, over here, it's a "Catholic Holiday", and as far as I know, most of the Protestant denominations don't do anything for it. Outside of Catholic parishes, it's only the day after Halloween, with the origins of Halloween completely forgotten. [8|]

In other words, I'm jelous (tm) that I have to be at work and you have a holiday! [:D]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Saints%27_Day

Also, as far as I know, most of European countries (especially those in central Europe) have this day as public holiday as well - namely:

Austria
Germany
Italy
Hungary
Slovenia
Croatia
France
Belgium
Luxembourg
Liechtenstein
Portugal
Poland

etc.

Well, the fact that the product in question was imported by a CHEESE importer might be a clue, no?

... actually, didn't read that carefully. My bad. Still, have never heard about it.

JWE -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/2/2011 1:49:14 PM)

English cheese, in the cheddar family. Mild, nutty, hint of sharpness, tastes really good. Been on an English cheese kick lately chasing after Cheshires and Wensleydales. Saw this and couldn't pass it up.

sprior -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/2/2011 1:59:04 PM)

Try some Red Leicester too. And don't miss the Stilton and Caerphilly.
