Hmmm..... trying to get the link to work.... I know these forums require the full word image before and after the link instead of just img, but that was not enough.....

Treetop64 -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/8/2011 3:41:42 PM)

Yeah.  Sorry.  Can't find a way to delete the post, either.

USSAmerica -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/8/2011 3:43:02 PM)

It is a cool picture in the link.  [8D]

Anyone here play Pride of Nations... I am a big Paradox fan.. just curious about this game.

Thanks.

Terminus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/8/2011 6:15:18 PM)

It's bad. Like AGEOD became crap when they got bought out by Pair-a-dix.

Don't waste your money unless you see it in a bargain bin.

The most wonderful thing I have seen in ages, Mynok. Thank you. Thank you.

Did you see them? Everyone, everywhere, watching or shopping, they all knew the words, they all sang, and some lifted their arms up in glorification. 12 year old teenage boys who know the words and who get it. Oh, yeah, we know. We may not want to intellectually admit it, but we know. If for nothing else, Handel's Messiah needs to be raised to the upper pantheon of those artists who have given most to the context of the human speces.

I dearly love these random acts of culture. Sincere thanks to the Opera Company of Philadelphia, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Macey's, Wanamaker Organs, and all the participating choirs that made this event so special. Ciao. John

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given;
and the government shall be upon His shoulder;
and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor;
The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Hallelujah: for the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth;
The kingdom of this world has become the kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ;
and He shall reign for ever and ever;
King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. Hallelujah!

For them of you who watches this, turn your volume up REALLY FRIKKIN LOUD !!!

Thank you Mynok, my friend. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

For ever and ever, halleluja, halleluja.

Mynok -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/8/2011 8:06:51 PM)

Some of those were the actual singers from what I've read. They were scattered throughout the crowd rather than gathered in any one spot. They showed the guy who was directing at one point. It was fascinating and moving.

EDIT: The singers are wearing buttons.

And yes, few have contributed as much to beauty in human culture as Handel.

There is very little art in our modern culture that grasps us and propels us to a higher plane of appreciation, however briefly. We have no Monets, no Handels, no Bachs, no Vermeers, no Hals, no Mozarts, no Beethovens. ****, we're so pathetic we couldn't come up with a Solieri even.

All we got is Michael Jackson, Madonna, some porn slut named Kardashian, Lady Gaga, and maybe another transvestite or three. Oh gosh, almost forgot the visual artists who think art is smearing feces or urinating on someone else's stuff. They can't do anything of their own, so all they can think of is to crap or pee on something that somebody better has done.

Yeah, real nice place to raise your kids up.

I'm just glad you left Jessica Simpson off your list, JWE. She is a piece of artwork, sculpted from the human tableau. Without comparison. Sigh...Jessica....Romo was so, so wrong...

Plus, everybody knows that the original 'Piss Christ' was the only innovator in the effluvial arts. All the others are such obvious imitators as to be beneath contempt.

We do have Al Jorgensen. [:D]

Schanilec -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/8/2011 9:14:17 PM)

Well we didn't see many deer. Five is all I saw. One I emptied my magazine at long range. Came close at a couple of hundred yards, but no hits. But it was still a great weekend out in the field. A couple of guys came out from Grafton (about 25 miles away) and dropped off several pounds of Bohemian style sausage. Some of the local farmers also came out and we all sat around the camp fire and chewed the fat for awhile. We seem to be getting pretty popular in the clearing where we hang out. More and more people show up every year just to hanfg out after sunset. Then we went into Edinburgh for the free chili feed. That is an opening day tradition in all small towns around here. Then into Park River for for a few beers. And heeded back to the hotel rooms to get a good nights sleep. Then back out the next day. The wether was pretty nice, except for that bleeping wind Friday and Sunday. Saturday was absolutly beautiful. So we'll try it again this coming weekend. But closer to town and not stay overnight. All in all, a really great time.

Mynok -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/8/2011 9:25:39 PM)

You can come sit on my back deck anytime. I guarantee you'll see 5-10 of them.

This is because for pretty much a century, art has degraded into entertainment instead of inspiration.
