Well we didn't see many deer. Five is all I saw. One I emptied my magazine at long range. Came close at a couple of hundred yards, but no hits. But it was still a great weekend out in the field. A couple of guys came out from Grafton (about 25 miles away) and dropped off several pounds of Bohemian style sausage. Some of the local farmers also came out and we all sat around the camp fire and chewed the fat for awhile. We seem to be getting pretty popular in the clearing where we hang out. More and more people show up every year just to hanfg out after sunset. Then we went into Edinburgh for the free chili feed. That is an opening day tradition in all small towns around here. Then into Park River for for a few beers. And heeded back to the hotel rooms to get a good nights sleep. Then back out the next day. The wether was pretty nice, except for that bleeping wind Friday and Sunday. Saturday was absolutly beautiful. So we'll try it again this coming weekend. But closer to town and not stay overnight. All in all, a really great time.

Sounds like you had a blast. Reminds me of the good times here as well.

We look forward to it every year. Next is the Christmas time get together with some other buddies who hunt in different areas and compare notes over a couple of beers at our local haunt.

These are great times to take ones mind off the tedious trials and tribulations of our everyday routines.[8D]

EDIT: The singers are wearing buttons.

Yeah, right. Your little 'undercover rock stars' are nice. But I notice that over 90% of the people singing and raising their arms in praise ain't wearing buttons. So much for your little propaganda note.

Even though we believe in God, we are a bit smarter than you people give us credit for.

Mynok -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/9/2011 1:05:06 AM)

Doesn't take anything from your point at all. There were lots of people without buttons who were singing. Never said otherwise.

My point was that this was a large and diverse group of average everyday folks who planned and executed this, not to denigrate those bystanders who joined in.

Please accept my apologies, Mynok. Did not mean to pee on your parade. And a right righteous parade it was.

It is merely another election year and so it's another regularly scheduled season to marginalize and demonize some folks by the intelligencia. I'm kinda sensitive about that and I'm not known for turning the other cheek. Please chalk my sharpness up to my sensitivity: my problem, not yours.

I did simply love the living crap out of your Random Act of Culture and thank you for posting it.

witpqs -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/9/2011 7:37:23 PM)

It was pretty cool the way they did it. If they had the whole cast up on the balcony or something then - human nature - most people would have been (quite thrilled) spectators. By spreading the performers around they did two big things: they made it 'totally OK' for folks to sing along, and instead of the surprised shoppers being 'in an audience', they were right there inside the performance! Nicely done. [:)]

Steve Job's last words make you think. Unless one subscribes to the droll theory that 'near death'/impending death experiences are meerly the products of a oxygen starving brain.

Unfortunately, I know enough about the pathophysiology of oxygen starvation on the brain that I believe this to be the case. Droll? Maybe. But it's also closer to the truth than some divine death bed revelation, IMO. Sorry, mate.

Nikademus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/9/2011 9:19:24 PM)

no need to be sorry, because you can't know what's closer to the truth either. You can say your explanation is, but in the end you don't know. I had a Pschology teacher once tell me a very interesting story about a person's ND experience and not all the science or oxygen starvation in the world could explain away the fact that she saw a real world object (and fully described it accurately) while technically dead and enclosed within a structure that made it physically impossible for her vision organs to send the proper images to her oxygen starved brain.

Proof? No. but it did offer a counter to the latest science that allegedy proved that "out of body" experiences were meerly distoritions of vision and brain processing caused by magnetic fields or some other stuff.

Personally.....i'd like to think that Jobs saw something more wonderful than an iPad 2.

We'll all find out for ourselves in the end thats for sure.

Ahhhh....no worries then mate! I hear ya loud and clear on the 'intelligencia' and agree. I strongly suspect a better description of them is 'the powers that be' but there is a lot of overlapping there to be sure.

They strike me as the words of man who spent his entire life entrenched in the physical world getting his first glimpse of the spiritual one. I wouldn't make too much of it.

Nikademus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/9/2011 9:44:30 PM)

im not. I see it as a hopeful thing though. Because i'm too much of a cynic for my own good. [;)]

I wouldn't make too much of it either, Bro. The sloshing, back and forth, of evidence is like the wash of the sea in the hold of a sinking freighter. Cynicism is good, because at least you recognize there is something to be cynical about.

There is no evidence, there is only faith. Those who see, cannot come back and explain. Makes it real easy to explain it away.

Don't think Jobs saw God, frankly. Think he likely saw the other dude. "Oh wow" can be taken several different ways.[;)]

You're right about 'the truth'. I can only suggest which is most likely based upon my knowledge and training-which I did. Proof? Certainty? Truth? Unfortunately, you will find little of these things in this world, my friend.

I can believe that Steve Jobs (and others like him that are dying) have beautiful hallucinations and physical sensations in the perimortem time period. Why wouldn't they? Much as I would describe the sensation I felt jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft and plunging groundward as 'Wow. Oh wow.", I imagine that there must be some feeling of cerebral disconnect when you feel no more pain, have the sensation of floating and maybe even euphoria in those last minutes in this world.

I hope that-when I go-I will be surrounded by family and friends and go gently, as he did. I hope that his soul is at peace.

unless your a DC comic book hero. THEY come back from the dead all the time.

Superman....
Jason Todd...
Green Arrow...
Wonder Woman.....

I'm waiting for the return of the Human Torch myself. [:)]

And the DramaStar Galactica Cylong "ressurection" hub does not generate a "Oh Wow...." rather it generates a "Oh Brother!" [8|] [:D]
