Yes rear area high ranking officers can historically get KIA due to air and motor accidents as well.

In my first campaign by turn 12 I had lost 9 generals.

I restarted and now up to turn 9 only 1 general.

Is the big difference totally random or something else?

Slight nitpick: one Army Group Commander did die, by suicide. Von Kluge. (Admittedly, he was on the Western Front at the time.) I'm not sure the game properly accounts or can account for the rash of executions and suicides among the officer corps following the 1944 assassination attempt.

But the basic point made above about generalship losses does stand.

Hi Flaviusx,

Yes true and its actually noted in the raw data too. Problem is as the list in game is of generals that primarily served on the eastern front tho some of those ofc also served on western front. Since list isnt complete for western front, italy and africa serving generals. If the result from that list is to get any valid statistical meaning, only fates of the generals at the time serving on the eastern front is counted.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

2 of the 4 army commanders on the eastern front that died per my numbers died in plane crashes and are counting as KIA.

Yeah on the randomness as far as i can tell and understand from comments by beta testers.

Kind regards,

What we have in testing now is a version that cuts the losses due to distance from enemy by 2/3, and cuts the losses for HQ's more than 10 hexes from the enemy by a further 2/3. We'll play with that and see how it seems, but it should cut the losses quite a bit. Just be sure to keep your Front and AG HQ's more than 10 hexes from the enemy and they should be fairly safe.

I am currently on turn 19 of a very agreessive test (ing with the new patch) of HQ in the front lines. So far the losses are much lower, I did manage to get Manstien and Vietinhoff (sic) killed though, but that is it in 19 turns. I have constantly put the Panzer HQ 0-3 hexes in the front lines, a side effect of the lower losses of leaders this close to the front is that quite a few have been promoted to due continued abuse (lol).

jomni -> RE: Generals getting killed (1/5/2011 1:55:46 AM)

In my 15 turns as Soviet.  Only one has been killed and another executed due to poor perfomance. Not too alarming.

Magnum88 -> RE: Generals getting killed (1/5/2011 2:27:28 AM)

Turn 22 as Axis and I have lost 9 generals but 5 were Army commanders (including Guderian, von Kleist, and von Kluge), which were never very near the front. Somewhat annoying.

randallw -> RE: Generals getting killed (1/5/2011 7:34:24 AM)

I have two or three dead from combat, and one or two executed, through about 24-25 turns.
