Are you planing to use the Blizzard "house" rules?

Not really [:D] But I am open to persuasion. The idea when we started the game was basically to see whether we can both "abuse the system" and still get to the playable position in spring. Of course, as soon as we started the game took it's own course and initial ideas and presumtions were outta window....

What I don't like about your set of house rules is that Soviet Front is a very flexible unit. Some of my fronts are very overloaded, some are not. Plus I keep some of my central armies directly under Stavka, no fronts.

Q-Ball -> RE: Waiting for the spring miracle... Oleg (Sov) vs Senno (Axis), NO Senno (3/21/2011 6:53:46 PM)

Bob, I'm using them in my AAR with Von Beanie, and I hope to be the first AAR to actually make it through Winter that I am aware of.

I think Senno gave up on this a bit early though, particularly since Leningrad is pretty much in the bag for him.

karonagames -> RE: Waiting for the spring miracle... Oleg (Sov) vs Senno (Axis), NO Senno (3/21/2011 7:04:18 PM)

Does Senno owe you turn 16 or 17? I would consider taking over the game, if I felt I could re-deploy to put together a half decent blizzard defence. In the past I have captured Leningrad on T13, and this has allowed enough time to redeploy for the Blizzard. I would also need to know if Senno has any APs built up - I usually have 300 by this time ready to re-organise the army for blizzard duty.

The south looks bad,and unlikely to produce a decent jump off point for a southern strategy in 1942, which is my preferred option, so I would need to start working on a Moscow-based plan.

Worst case, is I'd play to T24 then negotiate some house rules.

Oleg Mastruko -> RE: Waiting for the spring miracle... Oleg (Sov) vs Senno (Axis), NO Senno (3/21/2011 7:10:27 PM)

Last turn I played is 15, so turn 16 is with him.... I have no idea about APs though. Contact Senno and see if he's willing to let you take the game over, or did he reconsider and wants to continue.

That could be interesting for the game and this AAR! Big change at the very top of OKH! It would be talk of the day in London, Washington and Rome....

Oleg Mastruko -> RE: Waiting for the spring miracle... Oleg (Sov) vs Senno (Axis), NO Senno (3/21/2011 7:11:11 PM)

Big you can probably check the screenshots in Senno's AAR to see how many APs he has.

karonagames -> RE: Waiting for the spring miracle... Oleg (Sov) vs Senno (Axis), NO Senno (3/21/2011 7:19:41 PM)

I think it would be sad if this AAR died, as I know how I would feel if I was you, but even I could not stop AGS disintegrating if the flank is too long, and I think that is the problem - if the axis can't get a few hexes beyond Ztown and Dtown before the blizzard it could be problematic.

edit: in the last screenshot he had 19 APs

Oleg Mastruko -> RE: Waiting for the spring miracle... Oleg (Sov) vs Senno (Axis), NO Senno (3/21/2011 7:30:32 PM)

Well, I don't want to twist anyone's arm.... but it would be nice to have this continued and change of command would make things even more interesting. Von Brauchitsch falling into disfavor with Hitler and all that.

It's a nice situation for any German player, in that he's psychologically free from blame. If he does good - great. If he does bad, he can always say "well I took over a hopeless situation".

Klydon -> RE: Waiting for the spring miracle... Oleg (Sov) vs Senno (Axis), NO Senno (3/21/2011 10:12:22 PM)

That is a shame. I went back and looked at his AAR and he acknowledges a lot of mistakes he made, especially in the south, but I think he has also been a pleasant surprise in that he has been a quick learner and managed to come back and do fairly well. He makes no mention of throwing in the towel in his AAR, although he also mentions that he doesn't think getting Leningrad will be that big of a deal.

I think he is passing up a golden opportunity to get more experience with the Germans, although he mentioned that he thought he might be more suited to play the Russians. I think getting some perspective with the Germans and learning something about them can do nothing but help any Russian player and vice versa. A player who knows the strengths and weaknesses of his enemy is far more dangerous than one that doesn't know. I also think going through a blizzard against a live opponent can do nothing but be instructive and a player gains vital experience doing that imo.

Hi all,

If any of you guys are visiting Senno's AAR thread see if you can make him reconsider and continue the game [:)]

Or perhaps someone wants to take the game over from him? I did that couple times in WITP, take over other people's games when they could not or would not continue for one reason or another, and it can be fun, trying to solve problems other people created....

I posted in his AAR strongly urging him to continue playing!

IMHO the giving up is really pointless (especially in his situation) and that the best way to learn is trough continuation (making mistakes is essential part of that process)...

Oleg,

if you have time can you pass along total losses and manpower strength by both you and Senno. I am just trying to understand fully his point in chasing a rabbit with a broken leg.It would be nice to see him work thru the winter but if its that bad then I respect his opinion.

Oleg Mastruko -> RE: Waiting for the spring miracle... Oleg (Sov) vs Senno (Axis), NO Senno (3/22/2011 2:22:56 AM)

This is the situation in the south, won't gonna sugarcoat it, it's pretty bad for Axis, and this is where the focus of the Soviet offensive would probably be.

But hey he has Leningrad! [;)]

Pipewrench, here are the losses, pretty modest for the Soviets...

Destroyed units, less than 120 Sov divisions, not enough!

But hey he has... OK, I'm not funny... [:D]

Pipewrench -> RE: Waiting for the spring miracle... Oleg (Sov) vs Senno (Axis), NO Senno (3/22/2011 3:11:33 AM)

thanks for the time you put in to post the losses.

That southern map is an eyeopener and will hurt come blizzard.

edit
he might have Leningrad but you might just have Kiev.[:)]
