Air losses by type of plane:

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (5/19/2012 8:16:23 PM)

as for the AA units, I have 83: 31 regiments + 52 battalions

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (5/19/2012 8:22:09 PM)

I am not really paying a lot of attention to the air war (in WitP AE I truly micro-manage it though). The lack of APs forces me to focus on the land thing (replace losses). I cannot even appoint leaders [:(]

I don't like how the air bases are created either. This random thing drives me crazy... I know it's chrome but I love staying organised. IAD = fighters; BAD = level bombers; Shad = tactical bombers and so on... I might need a Shad but then I get (random decision) a NBAD... which I don't need. But I am forced to use it (for let's say the tactical bombers). The whole thing is in the end chaotic [8D]

a couple of things:

1) those ArtDivs looks pretty weak yet (200 guns), I think they take a few turns to fill up.

2) The proper Russian term is "davai" not "dabai" [:)]

The units were created like 1-2 months ago. Perhaps it's a lack of proper armaments.

When I was in Russia that was the word I was listening the most: "davai" [:D] A "v", not a "b". Ok, thank you.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (5/19/2012 8:34:07 PM)

Also note not a single German plane was destroyed on the ground [:D] I never attacked the airfields (in WitP AE they are the most popular targets!).

Think about this statistic. During the Great Patriotic War the Red Air Force needed 30 sorties for each German plane destroyed in the air. But to destroy it on the ground only 5 sorties were needed. The simple truth was that these airfield attacks were rather complicated (for the Soviet airforce), fact which was acknowledged by the Soviets themselves.

Turn 78

10 December 1942

Well, Artillery Divisions have been put to good use near Moscow and what can I say...? A big fiasco [:D] Still, I wanted to try.

The truth is their experience is still in the 20s, therefore they are a bunch of lousy novices only good to empty the weekly vodka tanks. This, I should have known.

Er, anyway (aka let's see the glass half full), if Marquo perceives I am making many attacks near Moscow that might force him to pay attention to this area aka do not divert panzer hordes to the area which really matters to me aka winter offensive area. The goal, remember: advance towards the general direction of Kursk.

And and and, the thing is I might more or less succeed! [X(] Let's see, this turn he has also withdrawn one hex minimum (as if that was going to save him!). I will push him anyway. And he is apparently keeping his armored hordes elsewhere, namely Moscow area and north of the Caucasus. And this is of course important as they would be an excellent deterrent aka I should be forced to be much more cautious. So I might gain let's say 2 hexes per turn. In 3 months I might have advanced let's say 24 hexes and thus get near Kursk. In theory...

Hmm, this is good news for me. And perhaps he is throwing overboard his excellent (and my horrible [:D]) summer campaign. Spring will tell.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (5/26/2012 2:05:05 PM)

Details of the attack. YES, a command penalties hell. What else could I expect? [:D] I cannot afford to reassign Rifle and tank corps (or many divisions for that matter). Not to mention that I would be necessarily overloading some armies. I keep using the APs to keep the pace (goal: 450 rifle divisions).

Oops, the 3 rifle divisions of the 30 Army were not screenshoted. More cannon fodder or victims that is.

Uncle Joe got it wrong [8D] If quantity mattered the Chinese should have kicked the Japanese out (1937-1945). But they didn't.

I guess Stalin said that to merely justify his clownish orders to the Red Army.

Klydon -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (5/26/2012 2:34:33 PM)

Not sure what house rules you are playing with but on some of those heavily fortified areas around Moscow, it may be beneficial to have the Red Airforce announce the entrace of the Red Army. (IE, bomb the victim stack once or twice to "loosen" them up and then attack). The other method (which I doubt you have a lot of troops for, but once the fort line is reduced, the going will be easier) is to attack, then rotate fresh troops in and attack again against a hopefully weakend enemy stack.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (5/26/2012 2:37:18 PM)

A close view. You can also see some of the vict... er, regiments I plan to trash [8D] I will bring the 1 NKPS thing to this area. LOL As if I needed more RR brigades! Remember that I had bought maaaaaaany of them (as per pre 1.05 patch, the forts thing that is).

Before the attack I had attacked the hex with all the planes available [8D]

I hadn't thought about various attacks. I was thinking about a massive strike.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (5/26/2012 7:45:15 PM)

A half-ar*ed "strategic" consideration. I was keeping tank and cavalry corps NE of Stalingrad but across the Volga, ergo in the wrong side of the river. Hungrians were force to cross it, yes, but for sure Marquo wants me to fight here, where I cannot really hurt his hordes. And we can't have that! [sm=00000612.gif]

Therefore I had in fact planned these movements, concentration of forces (see screenshot). The 3rd Shock and 37 Armies -Stavka armies- have just arrived by tchouk-tchouk. I plan to extricate another army from Moscow area (the 2nd Shock, Stavka army, again) to send it to the Massacre Zone ([sm=innocent0001.gif]), not necessarily near Stalingrad.

So far the biggest limitation is the availability of Armies HQs... As I had said it's hard to extricate them from Moscow area because of the Rifle Corps attached to them (and perhaps still necessary to defend Moscow). So I am sending rifle divisions but the problem remains the same. The armies in this Massacre Zone are already full: 18:18, so...

We will see.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (5/26/2012 7:50:42 PM)

Steamroller in action? Hmm, not yet, I guess [:(]

Still, this turn we accomplished:

31 retreats
17 helds

Ergo 48 attacks [8D]

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (5/26/2012 7:55:13 PM)

Part II. Oh, as you can see the Cavalry divisions and the Tank brigades have just arrived as well. They have been spreaded along the whole area. Among the chickens that fled there were German divisions as well, not just regiments [:D] In other words, first blizzard or not, attacks ARE possible.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (5/26/2012 8:01:57 PM)

And Part III. Here we have to mention the 1st Tank Army: they trashed their share but pursued their victims who were trashed again. Serves them right!

I had got all totally wrong! Now yes, I'm pretty certain I should be getting to "Berlin"!

Klydon -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (5/29/2012 3:25:40 AM)

Make sure you don't grind your own tank corps down too much. They are pretty fragile at this point. Let them have a couple of turns of fun, then pull back for rest and refit. You are after moral building victories, but you also dont' want to wind up with 20 tanks and 2k worth of guys at the end of it. ;)

Turn 79

17 December 1942

Marquo the Chicken keeps running away exactly where I want him to run away! Bring vodka and accordions! Fiesta!

But a sixth sense is warning me: "remember the armored hordes". The thing is after using the recon planes (and I know this is not conclusive) the panzer hordes in the North Caucasus have sort of vanished *poof*... gone. I suspect I know where he will be sending them: NW of Stalingrad.

We are waiting by the way. If he wants it, he will get it! [sm=Evil-210.gif]

I was going to reply with the usual thuggish tone [:)] telling you that either they attack... attack... attack... or drop dead.. but this turn showed me why I am doing -in my opinion- the right thing: 3 more Tank Corps harvested.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (6/2/2012 1:31:43 PM)

Here you can see the buffer hexes he is leaving. Needless to say, I will try to hurl my hordes the same and trash some of these weak, miserable units.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (6/2/2012 1:32:38 PM)

The vanished panzers, and we are talking about the biggest concentration of them [8D]

In fact you can't see them on the screenshot. And THAT'S the problem. Well, my problem [:D]

[image]local://upfiles/11562/C2D03F7AA14F42CA890E6D9079EB4CAB.jpg[/image]

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (6/2/2012 3:37:21 PM)

The harvest continues. The hysterical measures were needed, methinks: 419 Rifle Divisions now. I just need like 30 (5 or 6 more turns). By spring, if everything goes well (which I can't guarantee [:D]), I might finally have a more or less normal Red Army.

But anyway, as I had said some moons ago, on the first two january turns I will focus on the Guards Rifle Corps. I might buy 5 each turn (therefore 10 harvested) which I would be creating in the Offensive Area.

After all, Marquo is supposed to reinforce this part of the front (the panzers that just vanished?), therefore I will need an extra punch, I guess. In other words, he will try to scare me, therefore I need to scare him a little bit more!

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (6/2/2012 3:40:26 PM)

31 Retreats (like last turn)
19 helds

= 50 attacks [8D]

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (6/2/2012 3:47:41 PM)

I tried some sort of massive (and yet suicide attack) near Moscow, with the 3 Artillery Divisions. They held but this time at least forts were reduced from 3 to 1. I am way too impatient. I want to know how will the future offensives work. I suspect I need more time. We will see.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (6/2/2012 3:52:42 PM)

This intolerable run away thing (this is scandal! [sm=00000612.gif]) sort of saved him in this part of the front [8D]

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Death to Marquo's Hitlerite Hordes! (6/2/2012 3:55:13 PM)

Here attacks were more fruitful.
