7 Mar 1942 A quiet turn. Not much to report. China: Again, bombing is strong at Sian. Some Chinese appear to be leaving the city. I hope he's not completely abandoning it as we'd like to ruin some of these decent Corps while taking the city. SO PAC: The Horn Island invasion force is loading on fast transport at Port Moresby. Burma: The 33rd Division is approaching Pegu. Enough supply is a Bassein now that 1 Rgt and a small Cavalry unit will attempt to move across the river toward Prome. Mini-KB: The Mini-KB has moved out of Singapore and is at Port Blair refueling. It will move into the IndianOcean to stay on patrol for a short period to see if there are any convoys there to hit.

8 Mar 1942 Another fairly quiet turn. subs: SS Pickerel launches 2 torps at a couple of TKs North of Borneo. TBs escorting fight it off but score no hits. I-173 attacks a convoy near French Frigate Shoals that is escorted by PTs. Or is providing fuel to PTs to get to Midway. Either way in two attempts the sub can't get a shot off. The message states 'cannot acquire firing solution on enemy PT.' This message comes with both attacks but sub also escapes detection both times. Why are they trying to shoot at the PTs anyway? Does this also mean my opponent does not see this part of the combat replay? Burma: Bombing starting to have effect on the British troops in Rangoon. 9 Mar 1942 subs: The 10 knot sub chasers of the IJN are performing only one positive function thus far, which is to help Allied subs use up their torpedoes. Two are attacked near Luzon by SS Sturgeon and cannot locate the sub afterward to make use of their enormous loads of DCs. China: The day's bombing at Sian. I know a shock has better chances of moving them out but after several failed attempts in the last month I'm not willing to take the risk here. These are poor Chinese units, most starting woefully undermanned and disabled, and we may just end up unfortunately destroying some of these units. It could be possible to get many of them low enough on supplies though that they disappear on their own, which would mean they don't come back. This bodes well for running them out of supply ad beginning the long process of attacking the fort. The Brigade leaving Luzon to mop up other PI islands is just now arriving at Legaspi and will await transport. Burma: British troops are still in the city and the 33rd Div is only two days away now. With the continued bombing we should be able to slow them up even if they do get out of Rangoon before we arrive, and hopefully get a foothold at Prome before they get up the road there as well. It's not huge, but it would be great to surround and take out this Division and the accompanying Indian Brigade. It also might scare the other Allied forces into retreat giving a quicker pace to the rest of the Burma campaign. We'll see.

10 Mar 1942 subs (and PTs): PTs are a menace! Have I mentioned I hate them? A sad loss today as a scouting team comprising a brand new AMC and an E came too close to Batavia (my bad, as I set them from the HI thinking they'd pick a safer route to the Indian ocean, but waypoints were apparently required). 5 PTs launched and reacted 2 hexes to sink the AMC with 2 torps. The E left untouched. I-157 missed CM Abdiel today near Trivandum. Our subs are having a lot of trouble hitting things these days. Lots of contact, very few scores. To highlight our inneffiency, the next replay showed KVIII hitting an escorting PB Kanko Maru near Balikpapan, sinking her immediately. RO-66 then redeemed the IJN by hitting DD Anderson new Fiji (and reportedly sinking her, although this was very close to Suva, so she might have made it back there). I-157 then decided to get serious and hit something, taking out one lone AKL. On a good but tentative note, our wounded sub hit near Goa, I-122, has reduced her float damage to 71 (from 78) and is still limping along along the west coast of India. Burma: Some of our Sallys diverted to hit the small unit left in Prome today (miraculously identified from the air by our eagle eyed pilots as the 3rd Burma Rifles Battalion) destroying 1 and disabling 7 infantry squads and disabling 10 more non-combat squads. This was followed by our Yokosuka 3rd SNLF paratroops dropping in and easily overwhelming the disoriented defenders. Our troops from Bassein will cross the river to one hex south of Prome in 2-3 days. The Burma Div and Indian brigade are still in Rangoon. The timing seems right here. The 33rd Div will move into the city tomorrow. Boosting our AV there to over 1300 and giving a much needed quality boost as well. China: Near Loyang the attacks continue to deplete Chinese forces. No units were destroyed today, but our forces are approaching untenable levels of fatigue and disruption. Unfortunately for it we'll crush it for it's trouble tomorrow. The 38th Div is one hex out of Batavia and will be joined by two SNLFs while moving into the city. The 2 remaining B-339s came up to contest a raid on Batavia today but were both damaged and left the combat. None listed as ops losses though.

11 Mar 1942 subs: Nearly lost another AMC today! These things are torpedo magnates! SS-45 finds our scout ships in the N Pacific and throws 2 torps at AMC Awata Maru. Luckily both miss in the swirling choppy water. (When I send back the turn I forget to move the patrol, however, so this might be a day's delay unless this sub is enroute elsewhere). DEI: As our brigade unpacks to fight, the IJN MB groups crush the Dutch Cavalry near Kalidjati. It's taken them a while to get out, so they're going slow enough that we can catch them. The 33rd Division walked in and claimed the city today, which immediately abdicated to Japanese control giving us a much needed supply boost as well as leaving the fuel, oil, resources and facilities untouched. The 33rd is in good shape and will continue north immediately to catch the British stack with a good portion of the Thai units, some armour and arty. One Thai Division and some armor will move up the other road toward Toungoo. This was previously lightly defended, and recon will begin scouting up this road to see what we'll face. We'd like to get this spot in case after a battle the British need to retreat. We don't want them in this good defensive territory if possible, and would like them to retreat north up the road or to simply be surrounded. The armor should ensure we can outmaneuver these units. We suspect B-17 raids will commence and thus CAP will increase as sweeps are no longer needed here.

12 Mar 1942 This catches me up to game time, as we've managed to do a lot of turns lately, 3 just last evening! It's fun to get past this part of the game as the Allies feel they can't do much to stop the IJ and we're getting bored just bombing the crap out of everything and cleaning up Dutch East Indies bases. subs: I-166 surfaces and takes out the AKL Dumra near Calicut with 19 shell hits (!) and 2 torps during two attacks. Wow. Overkill? NO PAC: Fuso and Ise bombard Dutch taking out only non-combat personnel with 8 disabled. Not too encouraging, except that maybe there aren't many combat personnel here. Only two units are present, and I think one is a big engineer unit judging by the number of vehicles. The recon spotting was working, so this must just not have as much to hit. We'll see soon when the fast transport TF arrives in a day or two. China: About 50,000 troops (4 units, so decent sized Corps) have moved out of Sian to the clear hex to the north. Maybe this is to protect the refugees arriving from Yenan that are entering that area now from our Armour across the river, or maybe they're leaving. We'll see soon. Near Loyang the AV of Chinese units is down to 87 for today's attacks, and we'll need to rest now. 13 Mar 1942 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ subs: Dodged a bullet when 024 got a sight of our fast AOs slipping through south of Macassar toward Soerabaja. It launched 4 fish at DD Kiku, all of them missing. Again, we got lucky when S-43 sighted our fast transport heading into Dutch Harbor, but it was sighted by our escorts before launching and forced to submerge. NO PAC: Out in the churning waters of the North Pacific our scouting group took one for the team, but provided good intelligence while suffering another loss. We're not doing well with AMCs this game, but maybe this is their nature if used in their intended role. AMC Awata Maru and AV Kimikawa Maru ran into Warspite, Colorado and four DDs. Awata Maru fought well putting 4 shells into Warspite but took 12 hits and went down eventually. Kimikawa Maru was somehow able to use the darkness and poor visibility to get out of dodge and took only one shell for minimal damage. I was worried the BBs would stick around and find us in the day, but they must have retreated after the combat. Also the troops arrived at Dutch Harbor and unloaded easily with few losses thanks to our support team of naval firepower. Almost 20 guns were disabled or destroyed during the shooting phase before unload. Of course while unloading the rest of the guns targeted the most vulnerable ships, the two AMCs. One took two hits from 155mm guns and is on fire with 25 system and 30 float damage. Shoho will head SE of Dutch tomorrow in case the Allied BBs turn around and come back in looking to fight our ammo depleted ships still unloading. Two ASW DD groups will also form to protect against the 3 subs sighted in the area. Both Nishin and Chiyoda are with Shoho providing recon and ASW especially. Burma: The 33rd Division and other units attack the British in the jungle and come out slightly the worse, although we do take one unit off the board completely, most likely the small Viper unit. We're also flying in a small construction unit which will begin fort building tomorrow. The Rgt and Cavalry unit are about to cross and shock against two small British units one hex south of Prome. Two DMS have been clearing Rangoon harbor which is nearly free of mines, and our supply ships should arrive tomorrow to top up much needed stores here. Nearly every base is either yellow or red flagged. Today 16 B-17Ds hit Prome and disabled a 1/4 of our para unit, but once supply is more plentiful CAP should reach here easily to at least minimize the effect of any bombing. China: Near Sian armor across the river from the city hit more communist troops, this time 2 HQ units, roughing them up for nearly 100 squads destroyed before the scarpered across the river. DEI: At Batavia we have a good idea of what we're facing now. It's good the 5th Division has landed and will be railing over. We're just above even with troops in Batavia. My guess would be forts at 2-3, so we'll need at least double the AV to begin wearing them down, even though the troops are not high quality. Good eyes on that boat. SS Swordfish wastes a few torps on another useless 10 knot SC. NO PAC: Secured Dutch Harbor easily. Now we need an engineer unit here to get the forts up. Economy _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Another interesting tracker report. My supply globally was in free fall during the first month as I threw it everywhere to stimulate building and feed the troops. Now it seems to be in slow recovery, although it still feels in the HI as if I have to take care how many convoys with troops also fill with supplies. At time I have to use troops only loading to make sure not to starve my R n D factory repair. Gifu has been particularly hard to keep at good levels. It's stuck below 10,000 right now and won't come up for another few days I think as Tokyo is barely at it's own optimum level. Naval production seems at the right level, but after beginning a surplus in merchant building, it's now losing over 50 points from our surplus each day. I have 3 CVEs accelerated, which I'm sure is causing the problem, but I'm not even sure how to check to see for sure if that's it. I'll just wait a while and see what happens. The love/hate relationship I have with Japanese subs and ASW platforms is echoed in your recent posts. In my experience, Japanese AMC's, CM's and PB's are also torpedo magnets. Train those air groups in ASW from day one and get them into critical areas to interdict enemy submarines. It's taken a year, but my air ASW seems to be much more effective. Sometimes a SC or E will get lucky too with a solid DC attack scoring a hit or two. I don't know if previous patches have toned down Japanese submarine capabilities, but I've noticed a marked reduction in perfomance resulting in fewer attacks, let alone hits. Each game seems to be different though. Some AAR's show fantastic Japanese submarine performance coupled with effective ASW. Perhaps it's just a combination of all the variables and such that make each game so different, particularly in submarine warfare.

I've got 4 Lily groups doing ASW that have been on it since day 1 at ASW 40, train 40, rest 20. They'll get Sallys once I have enough. They're in the 50s for ASW now. I have other groups training on 1Es in Manchuria for ASW, Low Nav, and once they get going, in about a month, I think things will pick up a bit. But out there in the open ocean I think the US subs have gotten as many hits as we have, duds or not. Which I don't get. We've just plain missed on at least 10 Cruisers, usually with a spread of 6 fish each. We've hit two. Not good odds. As for merchants, which I'd rather hit, we usually target the escorts, and all but once have missed those. It is a mystery. Most of ASW with DDs and fast SCs has been okay. Much better after the ASW air got into the DEI. We've still hit more subs hard than the Allies, but the US subs that shouldn't hit have been much better than they should be, in my estimation, for this time of the war. Hopefully this means we're due a fat CV soon!

15 Mar 1942 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ China: The majority of troops are indeed moving out of Sian. I waited a few days too long if I wanted to catch them here. But if we can slow them with bombing and catch them in the clear hex across the river in a shock attack, it could be a massacre of Chinese. The city will fall in two days, then the race is on. Armor units are joining into a force that should be 350 AV strong and will try to coordinate the crossing and attack from the NE. DEI: Troops captured Kalidjati for the second time. The Afdeling Ritman was completely wiped out. After a several week long siege waiting for another SNLF and bombing, Sinkep Island was also conquered. NO PAC: A fragment of an SNLF will be loaded today to take several dot bases in the area so that no troops can be simply flown in. More engineers are on the way from Manchuria, and one more Naval guard unit, bringing the total here to five. PI: Bombardments at Bataan are now inflicting some injury to Allied units, and none to IJA units from return fire. I'm thinking supply is getting thin. Burma: It is looking more and more as if we'll at least catch the British at Prome and force a battle in the clear there. This could decimate the fleeing troops that have to be low on supply and which are constantly harassed by 80-90 bombers. Once they move into the clear the bombing should be more effective for two turns in a row even if they trio to attack as soon as possible in Prome. The first are at 1.32 and growing, but most likely won't get near 2 before the British arrive. So it'll be the (now) 20 AV paratroops and the 125 AV Rgt + 2 chasing tank units (103 AV) vs a weakened Division, a small Indian Brigade, and the Gloucester Battalion. British forces total just 400 AV now, and should lower by the time they are in position to attack. There seems virtually no way they could get a 2 to 1 in that situation and kick us out. So the 33rd and Thai units should be able to get in and attack before they can get out of the hex. Air and Sea Losses _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Planes: Our airforce continues to do well in engagements with Allied groups, but suffers heavily from ops losses over enemy territory. The frequency of our raids and flying over flak have brought our total losses close to that of the Allies after having a difference of 200 between them just about a month ago. Our planes continue to dominate in air-to-air engagements. Ships: This is the Allied loss screen for major combat ships and subs. We have no idea really how much of this is correct. Prince of Wales came OFF of the list recently, which was a big surprise after it took 3 torps near Soerabaja and wasn't seen limping off anywhere afterward. At PH we did okay, with 4 BBs now seemingly firmly sunk. Suddenly the Nevada has arrived on this listed as sunk near San Fran. Did he sneak this ship past our sub screen and get it close to port when damage control failed and it went down? Looks like maybe. Boise is also recently inexplicably back on the list after taking only one torp on Dec. 9 near Borneo. It's listed as sinking near Perth. Helena only took one fish and was near Pearl, so I'm sure she's fine. Very hard to know what is actually happening. I guess this is very normal. Seems more confusing this game for me somehow. As for subs, many of these are most likely actually sunk. The Aleutians _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Here is a map of the current state of this string of islands. At this point I've achieved stage 1 of my goals here, which has been to take the territory from Allied control and begin to garrison and build secure forts and some airfields. Stage 2 will be to continue adding to garrisons, building forts, and getting a defensive air presence into the area. So far I have one small 10 plane fragment of zeros at Adak. 9 Mavis are there as well. 9 Jakes are at Amchitka on ASW duty. I'd like to add a naval guard and an AF Coy to Cold Bay with 10 zeros. Another 10 would be stationed at Akutan or Umnak to mutually support as both of these bases are in easy range of 4Es, so a base force and Naval guard here as well. Each would be built to a level 2 airfield so Kates could fly in to attack anything spotted nearby. The 3 most Eastern dot bases to the East of Adak would be built to level 2 airfields, with the center base at level 3 to support Netties. An air HQ will go here. All of this is intended to last until the winter arrives on November 1 42. If the Allies haven't gained any ground here before then more assessment will be done through the winter, when invasions would be unlikely. Depending on other Allied activities most of these forces would likely be moved back to the Kuriles for defense there. If some are left into the spring of 43, they would be there as stumbling blocks to slow progress and attrit forces. Of course the Allies might not care that we have this area at all, but it's my feeling that if they have it they will use it, if they don't it might take too much time and effort to get it back and thus they might make plans elsewhere. My opponent also mentioned in an email that he had already bought out troops to be sent up here, so he was thinking of fighting for this area. Their present course will take them into Prome, which now has level 1 forts and 160 AV. I'm sure the assumption is that these units, including the 1st Burma Division, can win a battle here and move on. Behind them the 33rd division and 2 Thai divisions, as well as 2 armor will move into the city. The armor should get in before any attack, thus making it a close run thing. It'll be about 400AV for the British, and 250 AV for us. These units must be running short of supply as well. Not hits either side. DEI: The Dutch boys in their new planes came up to play at Batavia today. 6 Hurricane IIb and 3 P-40s were attacked by our first sweep of 10 Oscars and the battle was only slightly in our favor, with 2 hurrys and 1 P-40 exchanged for 2 Oscars. 2 zeros came over next and duked it out with 3 hurricanes, each losing 1 plane. 2 Oscars then came over, taking out 1 Dutch fighter. 9 zeros then swept but nothing came up this time. In the afternoon 1 lone Dutch IIb intercepted our unescorted Netties over Batavia (not happy with the Oesthaven zeros right now) which suffered 1 lost in the air and 2 damaged that later crashed on the way home. All together, a fairly even day in the air here, but not much left of the Dutch units. PI: At Bataan the AV is dropping slowly but surely according to our bombardments. It was at 1403, then 1387, then 1379 over the past 3 turns. Still a bit of flak occasionally though. China: The troops from Sian made it out of the clear hex before our pursuit could arrive. 20 Mar 1942 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A mostly uneventful turn as our forces get prepared to fight in Burma, on Java and in northern China. subs: The not very menacingly named AMs again hunt for I-19 near Hawaii. She launches 2 torps at AM Rail but misses. I-19 is later found by two PCs as well, to no effect. I-3 attacks a surface combat group with at least 4 DDs and CA Northhampton south of Sydney, but misses with 4 fish. Malaya: Most of Malaya has been cleared of our troops. Forces only remain where they are required to garrison. The Thai unit began clearing the British base force from the rail lines today, but couldn't force it to retreat in spite of an 8 to 1 attack. Burma: The British have arrived in Prome. Our Rgt just made it in before them. The two tank units will follow them in, closing the door. We'll bomb tomorrow with everything, setting a LR CAP of zeros from Rangoon, flying one small Oscar unit out of Prome, and sweeping with a larger Oscar group. I don't think they'll be able to take the base, but I'll still be worried until I find out for sure. DEI: On Java nearly all forces are assembled in Batavia. A few more days and it'll be about 1350 AV to 600 AV for the Dutch. No sign of the Dutch fighters today. China: I think we might just catch some of the Chinese troops here as they slow down moving into more difficult terrain. This is a strong force, and while this is only a rough hex, it still will be tough against this many Chinese. For our larger strategic goals however, just attacking to destroy and disable troops is a victory even if we suffer greater overall losses. Burma: Today is the first time I've noticed one of my air commanders making a smart choice of their own. The guy in charge of 36 Nells in Bangkok decided not to attack the British in Prome and instead hit the 13th Burma Rifles Battalion near Lashio. After this 14 Sallys went in with only the local 7 Oscar Ibs protecting them and the results were even worse. We did take out 5 hurricanes on the day of various types. On the day we lost 21 Sallys, 5 Oscars and quite a few good pilots. It could have been worse over enemy territory, but over our base we lost 10 KIA and 10 WIA with 4 MIA. I'm more concerned about the two new aces in Hurricanes sitting in Akyab. It's time to bring in the Tainan group. Later in the combat phase our troops did better than our aircrews and held Prome against an Allied shock attack. My opponent was not happy about his adjusted AV (62) although I wasn't surprised considering we had a fort, had them surrounded and had been bombing these troops for two weeks now. They would have had to rate higher than their actual AV to even get a 1 to 1 anyway. I recommend moving your subs. I've found that when subs go after ASW ships, they miss and then get DCed. Not worth it. Even if you move just a few hexes, you can usually get lost in the ocean and search for better game.

I had this very thing happen when I just didn't pay attention to what was lurking around Perth and lost one there to the ASW crews. Now around any Allied base if I'm in close I'll have them on a 5-8 hex triangle or line patrol to keep them moving out of situations where their DL is rising or the ASW sits on them. Still, Jocke's getting more frisky these days and there are a lot in operation around certain bases, ranging pretty widely. Up at Kodiak I might just send a few DDs up there to see if I can pick off those YPs he's been sending out. At Hawaii I was briefly concentrating them around where the sighted convoy was heading, and now I'll back off again into the Pacific and start the search over.

It's halftime and Madonna is about to do some singing. How old is she now? In London it's nearly 1AM and work is going to be painful tomorrow. Several times a year I have to do this for a game in the states. Wow! I have to say, Madonna was impressive. That was a show. Loved the choir at the end in Like a Prayer. Great game! Giants win!!! Not being a fan of either, it was just fun to watch. (It's taken me all game to finish this!) subs: SS Triton gives us a scare by targeting AO Shinkoku Maru near the Kuriles but misses with 6 torps. This AO is loaded up and heading for Attu. DEI: Dutch fighters, 1 Hurricane and 7 P-40Es came up at Tillitjap. 16 zeros took down 5 planes and damaged another with no losses. A DA will begin at Batavia tomorrow. PI: Bombardment shows AV down to 1349 now at Bataan. We haven't taken a hit in return in two weeks. China: Our stack caught the Chinese stack in the rough hex just before the forest and the mountains. Of course they could still make it out before our attack tomorrow. Should be interesting. Bombing them continuously. KB and Mini KB The Allies have not had a sighting of the KB or the Mini-KB in quite a while, and I'm guessing he doesn't know where they are just now. The Mini, with Ryujo, Zuiho, Hosho and Taiyo are stationed at Cocos Island. AOs are on the way. A SCTF and Mizuho are also there. The KB is at Rabaul. Akagi is still 14 days from patched up at Yokohama. 23 Mar 1942 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One of the more interesting replays today as action occurs in several major campaigns. subs: SS Tambor attacks an amphib convoy south of Naga as more of these come close to the HI. RO-34 tries for a YP near Kodiak but misses. This sub is on a wide patrol, but is still being found, possibly from the air. We may have to pull back further. I am going to send a DD TF in closer to see if it gets spotted. Burma: The Tainan group flew in and as fatigue was low, they only took one day of rest before flying in to sweep Akyab. 44 zeros met 37 Hurricanes of various Mks, and results were nearly even. We lost 4 zeros in A to A and 1 to ops, and the British lost 5 Hurricanes with 1 to ops. This was really just a mission to say hello and test their strength, and for now other missions will be of a defensive nature. Our troops attacked in Prome today, getting an 11 to 1 attack and completely debilitating British units here. These must be some of the reinforcements planned for Dutch, but which are now moving into Kodiak. Lots of new activity. A bit later AVD Wiliamson found RO-34 again and dropped two good hits on her. No hits. Later in the PM phase 18 SBD-3s sortied and put 2 1,000lb bombs on DD Mochizuki. She also is injured (15 sys 43 float) but still travelled at 7 hex speed and will be reduced to cruise to try and make it back to Dutch Harbor. Our northern force is at Attu. The Shoho with its 18 zeros might not be enough to cover surface forces and the CV TF, so we'll fly in air support to Cold Bay and station 2 10 plane A6M detachments here. Supply is there and a Naval Guard unit is en route. This will happen within a few days as we want to also get search into this are to help vector subs and see what's moving through. Getting interesting. DEI: Sibolga fell to a Naval Guard unit, and this will move down the W side of Sumatra aiming for Padang and the islands offshore. It takes a lot of time to finish off all of these little holdouts and dot bases, I'm finding out. Burma: At Prome our attack was 36 to 1, but still did not destroy all British troops. Sighted before launch however. More subs are heading into shipping lanes around the HI it seems. NO PAC: DD Yakaze was still loitering around south of Kodiak looking for ASW when it found something else. BB Warspite and BB Colorado with 4 DD showed up on the horizon, but Yakaze was able to escape with only one hit, luckily not form one of the big guns. It's tempting to send some CVs up here, but I'll refrain for now due to conservation of fuel compared to importance of target. I've decided not to chase all over the map this game until I now where my economy is at and how well the campaign in China is doing. When Akagi is fixed in 2 weeks it may join Shoho for a bit and sneak into the North Pacific to hunt. This will only happen once our search in the area is strengthened by subs and Mavis at Cold Bay. Don't want to run into any US CVs understrength. DEI: We'll begin attacking soon in Bativia again. Dot bases still being invaded. Subs quiet around Balikpapan even though we see them there. Perhaps our daytime ASW Lilys and our night search Jakes, with a few SC moving through the straits are having the desired effect. Burma: Almost finished at Prome. We'll attack at Meiktila tomorrow. B-17s hit the troops here disabling quite a few vehicles. Back from the Sun _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ This game has been on hiatus recently due to a trip I took to South Africa doing documentary work for an organization there helping heal the social problems caused by Apartheid. It was a great trip, lots of work, filming and photographing each day to help this organization show the context of people's lives there. Hard as well, as the area has 40% rates of HIV and 70-80% TB rates. I'm back in London now and missing the warmth of both the people and the weather. At least the winter here is showing signs of moving toward spring. We've done several turns since I got back a few days ago, but not the pace we had been moving at since I'm catching up on everything and we're both fighting colds. Jocke mentioned that he spent most of the time preparing for his first big offensive and now that he's gotten organized, the turns are much easier and more purposeful. I'm hoping this operation is in the distant future as I feel I need a good few months still to solidify positions at the perimeter of the Empire. Currently I'm almost two weeks behind on the AAR in relation to the game date. I'll begin the catching up process this evening and hopefully get current by the end of the weekend.
