23 Mar 1942 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One of the more interesting replays today as action occurs in several major campaigns. subs: SS Tambor attacks an amphib convoy south of Naga as more of these come close to the HI. RO-34 tries for a YP near Kodiak but misses. This sub is on a wide patrol, but is still being found, possibly from the air. We may have to pull back further. I am going to send a DD TF in closer to see if it gets spotted. Burma: The Tainan group flew in and as fatigue was low, they only took one day of rest before flying in to sweep Akyab. 44 zeros met 37 Hurricanes of various Mks, and results were nearly even. We lost 4 zeros in A to A and 1 to ops, and the British lost 5 Hurricanes with 1 to ops. This was really just a mission to say hello and test their strength, and for now other missions will be of a defensive nature. Our troops attacked in Prome today, getting an 11 to 1 attack and completely debilitating British units here. They should surrender soon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Prome (55,50) Japanese Deliberate attack Attacking force 26856 troops, 308 guns, 240 vehicles, Assault Value = 1029 Defending force 11490 troops, 165 guns, 45 vehicles, Assault Value = 347 Japanese adjusted assault: 517 Allied adjusted defense: 44 Japanese assault odds: 11 to 1 Combat modifiers Defender: preparation(-), experience(-), supply(-) Attacker: Japanese ground losses: 379 casualties reported Squads: 1 destroyed, 21 disabled Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled Vehicles lost 22 (2 destroyed, 20 disabled) Allied ground losses: 1674 casualties reported Squads: 51 destroyed, 117 disabled Non Combat: 6 destroyed, 27 disabled Engineers: 2 destroyed, 11 disabled Guns lost 50 (14 destroyed, 36 disabled) Vehicles lost 6 (5 destroyed, 1 disabled) Assaulting units: 1st Tank Regiment 33rd Division 2nd RTA Division Yokosuka 3rd SNLF 14th Tank Regiment 143rd Infantry Regiment 3rd RTA Division 25th Army /1 1st RF Gun Battalion 21st Medium Field Artillery Battalion 55th Mountain Gun Regiment 33rd Road Const Co 7th JAAF Base Force /1 Defending units: 1st Burma Division Rangoon BAF Battalion 16th Indian Brigade Railway BAF Battalion 1st Gloucestershire Battalion 103rd RN Base Force -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ [image]local://upfiles/37283/4445740306424055B963A7B38CDF190C.jpg[/image] _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DEI: At Batavia our forces did well and began the wearing down of the last bastion of Dutch power in the area by achieving a 1 to 1 and lowering forts to 2. Our losses were high, mostly due to using small SNLF units in the attack. One was nearly destroyed. It does seem that this was a good choice, however, as we just barely got a positive adjusted AV. We'll wait a few days and pull back the injured units before trying again, keeping up the bombing campaign here. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Batavia (49,98) Japanese Deliberate attack Attacking force 37170 troops, 350 guns, 146 vehicles, Assault Value = 1334 Defending force 19470 troops, 196 guns, 123 vehicles, Assault Value = 561 Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 2 Japanese adjusted assault: 786 Allied adjusted defense: 771 Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 2) Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 2 Combat modifiers Defender: terrain(+), leaders(+), experience(-) Attacker: Japanese ground losses: 2871 casualties reported Squads: 90 destroyed, 176 disabled Non Combat: 3 destroyed, 63 disabled Engineers: 1 destroyed, 18 disabled Guns lost 46 (17 destroyed, 29 disabled) Allied ground losses: 1461 casualties reported Squads: 39 destroyed, 83 disabled Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 32 disabled Engineers: 2 destroyed, 5 disabled Guns lost 10 (2 destroyed, 8 disabled) Assaulting units: Yokosuka 2nd SNLF 38th Division Sasebo 8th SNLF 124th Infantry Regiment Sasebo 3rd SNLF 5th Division Yokosuka 4th SNLF Defending units: Batavia Coastal Gun Battalion Mobiele Eenheid Battalion 1st Regt Cavalerie 4th KNIL Landstorm Battalion 1st KNIL Landstorm Battalion 2nd KNIL Regiment 1st KNIL Regiment Roodenburg Battalion ML-KNIL ABDA 1st KNIL AA Battalion Batavia Base Force Merak Base Force KNIL Army Command 1 ML-KNIL Aviation Kalidjati Base Force -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- China: After extensive bombing over the past month we thought the troops in the big stack would be both short of supply and disrupted. Well, if they were they didn't show it in battle. We attacked but got a 1 to 2 and suffered massive casualties. Two units, a Division an a Brigade, were nearly wiped out. The Brigade is worth 5 AV right now, and the Division is at 50 AV. The majority of our units are not much disrupted however, and could fight again most likely within a week. Even though this is a tough result the Chinese units will most likely suffer more over time as it will be harder for them to replace losses and heal disabled troops. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at 82,39 (near Sian) Japanese Deliberate attack Attacking force 144604 troops, 1307 guns, 1105 vehicles, Assault Value = 5362 Defending force 113368 troops, 739 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 3626 Japanese adjusted assault: 2018 Allied adjusted defense: 3343 Japanese assault odds: 1 to 2 Combat modifiers Defender: terrain(+), experience(-) Attacker: Japanese ground losses: 16081 casualties reported Squads: 162 destroyed, 610 disabled Non Combat: 3 destroyed, 80 disabled Engineers: 12 destroyed, 205 disabled Guns lost 78 (4 destroyed, 74 disabled) Vehicles lost 89 (7 destroyed, 82 disabled) Allied ground losses: 9469 casualties reported Squads: 243 destroyed, 325 disabled Non Combat: 5 destroyed, 194 disabled Engineers: 2 destroyed, 62 disabled Guns lost 125 (3 destroyed, 122 disabled) Assaulting units: 41st Division 6th Ind.Mixed Brigade 8th Recon Regiment 10th Tank Regiment 32nd Division 8th Engineer Regiment 5th Tank Regiment 36th Division 34th Division 9th Ind.Mixed Brigade 15th Tank Regiment 27th Electric Engineer Regiment 61st Infantry Brigade 12th Tank Regiment 7th Ind.Mixed Brigade 1st Ind.Mixed Brigade 13th Tank Regiment 13th Ind.Mixed Brigade 3rd Division 35th Division 37th Division 13th Division 11th Tank Regiment 52nd Ind.Mtn.Gun Battalion 51st Ind.Mtn.Gun Battalion 15th Ind.Medium Field Artillery Regiment 12th Army 1st Mortar Battalion 14th Medium Field Artillery Regiment 1st Army 11th Army 2nd Ind.
