All hail THE new THREAD!!!

Nice down here. Balmy 60s and 70s. Perfect bike riding weather. Heading up to Prattville for turkey day. 10 humans, 4 children, 4 dogs. Woof !!

Schanilec -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/23/2011 4:13:32 PM)

Big bummer. Got home ready for a few turns. And my monitor won't stay on.[:(] No signal?
Well at least I got some reading done.

Hey Nick it was 80 and sunny here today[8D]

You're obviously not in Washington. [:D]

It's the fall monsoon season here... cold and very rainy (typically the only hard rains we get are between late October and mid-December, though some years it continues into January). Thankfully I was smart enough to live well above any rivers or creeks...

Grollub -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/23/2011 4:23:29 PM)

Just FYI and in case you didn't know, but brother Onime has gotten married. [:)]

Edited; Subject line.

Nope he's in steamy, hot, allegator infested Florida. He's missing out on all our nice cooling rain.

Make sure it isn't just a loose cable.

I checked the cables. Unplugged then plugged-in everything. Start-up the tower Gateway logo comes up and then no signal. From blue on light to orange sleep light on monitor only. She just won't go any further. Very frustrating. Usually the monitor will eventually kick-in. But after an hour of trying.
The Gateway Vista is only 4 or 5 years old maybe a little older I just don't remember exactly.

Is it possible that the graphics card needs to be re-seated in its slot? Uncommon, but can happen and cheap to try.

So, children aren't humans? Didn't think so. [:D]

Mike Solli -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/23/2011 7:20:23 PM)

Well, some good news. I got a job offer (which I accepted). Temporary federal technician job in the Guard. Back to wearing the uniform (and shaving) every day. Pretty big pay cut, but we can easily live within the budget. It'll last about a year, so that'll give me time to get a permanent job (not in the military preferably).

I'm going to order Windows 7 shortly and get AE loaded so I can do some serious gaming again. [:D]

Nikademus -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/23/2011 7:53:23 PM)

congratulations!

Thanks Nik! Now I need to go find that smiley beating it's head against the wall again. [:D]

What does that type of position do in/for the Guard?

Logistics analyst, specifically an analyst for the maintenance community. I'll be sitting at the same desk I was a couple of months ago. Go figure....

Mike Solli -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/23/2011 8:39:55 PM)

Well, I need to order a copy of Windows 7. Any suggestions as to where I can get it? Digital download would be great. Then I can get started on my PBEM that much faster. [:D]

Ah, got it. Like a contractor brought in to replace the Major who used to sit at that desk, or will you still hold the same rank?

No ideas about a download, but I'll bet you can run out to Best Buy or such and be home with a DVD copy faster than the download finishes. [:D]

Treetop64 -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (11/23/2011 9:05:04 PM)

I think you actually need to buy the disk for Win7.

I'm technically a civilian federal employee but one of the requirements is to be in the Guard and wear the uniform. So, I'm a civilian but you can't tell and people will still call me Major, or Sir, or hey you, just like always. The pay is ~30-35% lower though.

I wouldn't know how. Plus no screen to go by. Though I have a buddy I've known since 6th grade down the street. He's a tech. He also has my labrador's sister. I had thier father.
