ORIGINAL: bradfordkay All I can say is, WOW! This is THE THREAD!, John. No one takes ourselves very seriously here. I was making a joke about the 20th Century comment, that is all. You are absolutely right and I sincerely apoligize. I missed the point and that is my bad. There was no need to tee off on you and I am very sorry for having done so. There's thousands of people who are way more talented than I, who get those rejection slips almost daily. There are Hemingways and Fitzgeralds out there who get bupkis for their efforts. I just happened to go to one of the 'right' schools (through no fault of mine) and so got some editorial notes along with my rejection notices, indicating what sort of premise would be acceptable. Because I came from (sort of) an acceptable background, I was shown how to lift my knickers and be an engaging whore. Because profit and marketability trumps literature every time. Yep, I whored myself, because the contentions that the publishers want to highlight are within my own paradigm. My point was to indicate how twisted and unrepresentative the contemporary publishing industry is. It's gotten to the point where one needs to not only look at the Author, but at the Editor, and at the Publisher. Thought and truth are at a premium in this country. Especially now that the publishing industry is in the hands of those who have their own agendas. I got really lucky. Most people don't get that push. So please don't mess with people on the basis of the usual Internet bullshit descriptions of rejections and such. That's nothing more than wet arrogant pigs grunting in their wallow.
