Hi Terje,

I was purposly using RL OOB numbers pre the start of Fall Blau, compared to ur numbers on page 8 i think 16 july OOB so pretty close to that date. Obvious there were some fighting before in the spring like 2nd Kharkov and so on, but u did also make attacks in that pre july periode. Ofc one can debate if on same scale.

In mud u build at 1/4 pace of clear IIRC.

In the word of House Stark - Winter is coming...
Not much for us to do but keep digging, remove some forts and reduce the length of the front by one hex by falling back one hex in a few positions. 2 new forts are added to the map, while we disband 7 that were built too optimistically.

Stalin - Hitler correspondence
Oloren's mails suggest that he does not realize just how close he came to break my back in -42, I on the other hand try to show some confidence and claim that it was not a close call.
For when you are allowed in here Oloren;
1. Only my panzer divisions had the strength to throw back your forces, and there are not alot of panzer divisions available...
2. The alternate attacks between the centre and the south was close to becoming my undoing
3. Had you pushed a little harder in the south, the entrie front would have crumbled as there was no combat ready troops available to fill any gaps.
4. I have been given time to refill alot of my divisions by now, leaving me in a far better position than before
5. I have had time to finnish another fallback line.

This is no disrespect to Oloren in any way, it just is to show how the game might seem completely different from the two sides of the save-file, and a learning oppertunity for others.

As expected the USSR make a small scale attack in the south. They rout a weak regiment, but do not achieve much, and we cut off the three foremost tank corps. The USSR make a total of 2 attacks and score 2 retreats, while we make 3 attacks, scoring 1 held, 1 retreat and 1 rout.

The USSR try to free their trapped units, but their assaults all fail. The USSR launch a total of 6 attacks, causing 5 helds (all to try to free their trapped units) and 1 retreat. Our two attacks caused 1 rout and 1 surrender.

The map positions may be creating some overconfidence in Oloren; he has the huge manpower and eqiupment advantage but the quality gap may still be considerable.

I think that he might also feel the NEED to do something, anything, as he knows he has the initiative and upper hand in terms of troops. Furthermore he also knows that more and more defensive lines are being built further behind, ehich means new obstacles for him to tackle as he advances. More time is a godsent for me at the current time, although I will never manage to finish all the lines I would like.

Overall
Last turn gave the USSR a scare, and they make no attacks this turn. We do however launch three attacks as three USSR stacks are placed in the open. Losses are only 3:1, but I need to take these attacks just to show that we still have a bite. We manage to inflict 2 retreats and 1 rout this turn.

The USSR make only one attack this turn, scoring a retreat, but since the hex in question is one I fail to reclaim, I have to abandon Kirovgrad as it can be cut off next turn. We launch 5 attacks, and score 1 held (the one attack that I HAD to win to keep Kirovgrad), 3 retreats and 1 rout.

Overall
The USSR make a total of 7 attacks, scoring 2 held, 4 retreats and 1 rout. They are pushed back, but the fact that three attacks occur in the border between AGN and AGC is a concern. We make 7 attacks as well, and score 3 retreats and 4 routs.

Losses
Again, something is askew with the losses report (USSR losses are given as about 35% lower than they are in terms of combat alone, not to mention attrition losses).

USSR : 20.000 troops, 389 guns, 145 AFVs, 123 AC (all numbers too low).

True, espesially since I tipped him about their usefulness [:D]
Although, he does not need them, he can do what he wants when he wants. I only have a handful of units able to push him back, so I guess it will soon be time to sacrifice some Rumanians, and heed the words of the Prophet Bruce Dickinson, and "Run to the Hills"...

The rivers finally froze, and the Rumanians shatter and rout in the south. I am now somewhat concerned that I will have to pull back to the blue line in post #77.
The USSR launch 8 attacks, scoring 1 held, 4 retreats 1 rout, 1 shatter and 1 surrender. We make 8 attacks as well, scoring 1 held, 3 retreats and 4 routs.

Overall
The USSR launch a minor offensive in the south, making 9 attacks, scoring 7 retreats and 2 routs. To counter this, we make 9 attacks as well, although only 3 that really affects the USSR thrust. We score 7 retreats and 2 routs as well this turn. For the situation in the south, see below.

Overall
The USSR keep pushing in the south, and are now at the outskirts of Odessa. Unfortunately most of our MP are spent on moving units, so the ammount of attacks we can make are somewhat reduced. The USSR make 12 attacks, scoring 3 helds, 4 retreats and 5 routs, the routs being on Rumanians. Not all Rumanians run away at the first sight of the enemy though, some of them actually fight to the death (see below). We make 6 attacks, and score 4 retreats and 2 routs. The fact that we now make more retreats than routs is a slight concern.

Overall
It seems the USSR have run out of steam allready, as they only make 2 attacks this turn (scoring 2 retreats). Had our panzers been in better shape, I would have ordered a small counterattack, but alas. We do make 7 attacks this turn, scoring 1 held, 5 retreats and 1 rout. Last turnwe recieved 2 fresh infantry divisions, and these have just arrived on the southern front, they were badly needed.

Losses
USSR : 69.000 troops, 796 guns, 159 AFVs, 205 AC.
Axis : 35.000 troops, 390 guns, 83 AFVs, 4 AC.
The good thing about the losses this turn, is that they are mostly done to Italians and Rumanians, my precious German untis were left mostly alone this turn.

With the kind of numbers you are facing the best results for casualty ratios may be to go on the full defensive, with units in reserve mode. Any attempt at a major offensive by you may burn units out.

Hehehe yeah. Yup, no major offensives are undertaken, however I will attack when the CV numbers are "right". I THINK this is buying me time. I keep forcing the USSR to reoccupy some of the contested hexes, reducing his ability to launch deliberate attacks in many zones.

Overall
The USSR brings out the dreaded Rifle Corps, and the result is felt. What I am hoping for at the moment is to be able to hold the current position untill mud arrives, but I have severe doubts about my ability to do so. The USSR launch 11 attacks, scoring 4 helds, 6 retreats and 1 rout. We try 4 attacks, but only score 2 helds and 2 retreats, not good enough.

USSR : 86.000 troops, 862 guns, 744 AFVs, 289 AC.
Axis : 39.000 troops, 566 guns, 106 AFVs, 4 AC.
Although we score 7 : 1 in AFVs, the USSR can afford it, we cannot.

Overall
The USSR keeps pushing in the south, and they launch 10 attacks, scoring 10 retreats. We make 4 attacks and score 3 retreats and a rout. So far I am not too scared about the situation as I have forces to respond with (atleast to some extent). That being said, I will not be sadden when mud comes back as every small period of time without fighting is a godsent right now.

It's probably too late to matter, but replace Halder with Guderian. He will be much better all around than Halder in the top spot.

Much like Soviet player put Zhukov in STAVKA. Better with all the leader rolls.

Overall
A worrying development. The USSR attack all along the line (well not literally all over, but still...). They launch 15 attacks and score 3 helds and 12 retreats. We only make 2 counterattacks this turn, and score 2 retreats. the problem now is that although our attacks still succeed, they are too costly. We lose 5.000 men killing of 6.000 USSR troops. A poor exchange.

Once more the USSR losses are way off...

Overall
Once more the USSR pushes along most of the front. Unless I am able to halt their attack in the centre next turn, I will have to reactivate the static units in AGN and prepare to fall back. Some good news though, Guderian has come through and released the Pz IVg2 and Pz V to the pools. Hopefully we will soon see some of them in combat. After all the Fuhrer has promised that his new wonderweapons will turn the war!
The USSR make a total of 20 attacks (more and more each turn...), and score 5 helds and 15 retreats. We make 6 attacks, for a result of 3 helds, 2 retreats amd 1 rout. Somewhat concerned about the fact that we now also encounter Mechanized Corps on the line...

USSR : 109.000 troops, 1.194 guns, 591 AFVs, 360 AC.
Axis : 53.000 troops, 892 guns, 67 AFVs, 17 AC.

Overall
The USSR keeps pushing, but I am still hoping to keep the front untill mud sets in. On a brighter side, Paul Hausser arrives with a fresh Panzer Corps. The only units in it so far however is only two infantry divisions (also fresh), but they are badly needed at the front.
The USSR makes a total 16 attacks, getting 5 helds, 10 retreats and 1 rout as results. We only make 4 attacks, and score 1 held and 3 retreats this turn.

USSR : 106.000 troops, 1.122 guns, 541 AFVs, 301 AC.
Axis : 47.000 troops, 801 guns, 122 AFVs, 3 AC.
