Turn 84 Overall Yup, got it correctly, the USSR did indeed lash out from Crimea. Nothing major, and I have moved units there to keep them at bay, but it is a concern, as those units would have been of better use elsewhere...Also a slight concern that the USSR forces 2 more retreats in my main line, destroying the forts there. Not good at all. Am now forced to deploy panzers as makeshift line-boosters until the forts have been rebuilt. A waste of tanks, but it needs to be done atm. 14 USSR attacks resulted in 8 helds, 5 retreats and 1 rout, while our 14 attacks gave 4 helds, 9 retreats and 1 rout. Losses USSR : ??.000 troops, ??? guns, ?? AFVs, ??? AC. Axis : 29.000 troops, 247 guns, 33 AFVs, 14 AC. German units disbanded 2 Luftwaffe Field Divisions. Partisans We took care of 7 out of the 9 that started on the map. why are u disbanding luftwaffe divs? why not attach pioneer bats to them and use as diggers behind front ?

Turn 85 Overall It is now all about firefighting, and I am losing [:)]. I push one USSR attack back one turn, and two others take its place the next. Imo, this is the fun part of the Axis defensive campaign, as you still have some punches to deal out. Unfortunately, although we outdo the USSR in terms of attack successes, casualties are not proportionate since we are now fighting USSR Rifle Corps, and not divisions. Nevertheless, we will keep attacking. Virtual Adolf has promised us some new wonderweapons though (If only I could import my Panzer Corps formations[:D])! 18 attacks by the USSR resulted in 9 helds, 1 scouted and 8 retreats. Our 16 attacks ended with 3 helds, 10 retreats and 3 routs this turn. Losses USSR : 60.000 troops, 883 guns, 69 AFVs, 283 AC. Axis : 40.000 troops, 513 guns, 69 AFVs, 75 AC. German units disbanded None. Partisans 11 of these buggers started on the map, only 1 remain. USSR reserve activations 1. Have not seen a lot of these lately, probably because the USSR units are busy attacking, and hence do not have a lot of MP remaining. Turn 86 Overall The USSR mainly attacks out of Crimea, and pushes the Rumanians back. Well, that is why I placed the Rumanians in the front, to soak up USSR MPs, so their retreats is not really a major concern. 15 USSR attacks resulted in 5 helds and 10 retreats, while our 8 attacks gave 2 helds and 6 retreats. Losses USSR : 47.000 troops, 603 guns, 165 AFVs, 179 AC. Axis : 37.000 troops, 432 guns, 37 AFVs, 47 AC. German units disbanded None. Partisans 10 out of 12 taken out. USSR reserve activations 4. Terje, I really have come to appreciate you and your AARs. You never talk about giving up, and I remember what you said in your 1st AAR about quitting. This gives me more motivation to keep playing my games to their rightful conclusion. Keep fighting the good fight!

Turn 87 Overall More USSR attacks from the Crimea, and we chose our attacks along the frontline. The units taking a beating in the south is the Rumanians, while I keep the Germans in the rear. They counterattack, and the Rumanians move into the reoccupied hex to soak up the USSR attacks once more. 14 USSR attacks gave a result of 5 helds, 6 retreats and 3 routs, while our 10 attacks gave 2 helds, 7 retreats and 1 rout. Losses USSR : 49.000 troops, 737 guns, 154 AFVs, 145 AC. Axis : 37.000 troops, 376 guns, 19 AFVs, 26 AC. German units disbanded 1 Luftwaffe Field Division. Partisans 5 out of 8 taken out. Apart from that, the front doe snot really change, and that is a good thing. 15 USSR attacks gave 6 helds, 8 retreats and 1 rout as a result. Nope, still using them, and tbh I am now getting to the point where I have one season worth of reinforcements in the manpower and armaments pool, so I do not see the need to do so atm. My main concern is that Sean knows perfectly well what he is doing, and that is to reduce my forts one by one so that he does not have to face them across a river after the mud is gone. Turn 89 Overall More of the same, the USSR make some attacks out of Crimea, and target some of my forts elsewhere. I am now waiting for mud to arrive, as that will give us a few turns of peace. 17 USSR attacks this turn, with the result of 6 helds, 9 retreats and 2 routs. We only performed 5 attacks, and scored 1 held and 4 retreats. Losses USSR : 37.000 troops, 475 guns, 14 AFVs, 105 AC. Axis : 30.000 troops, 279 guns, 23 AFVs, 43 AC. 43 to 45 is about managing the attrition war with the axis. you can afford to lose troops as long as you keep the soviet from advancing towards berlin. You can fight in forts while the soviets have to go out in the open to take ground. The panzers can counterattack then go back in the rear in reserve mode.

In theory, yes, however that is really not how it turns out in my experience. Forts are usually done after 3 turns at the most, and come -44 the panzers cannot really do a lot. They can push some, but compared to the USSR corps formations, they are too weak to really do anything decisive. Terje

Turn 91 Overall A very quiet turn, where all USSR attacks came out of Kerch, and my swearing is also aimed at Kerch, as the one held result I got was...hmmm....silly/idiotic/WTF/I hate dice throws. 2:1 in men and guns, 150 tanks vs none. 3:1 pre battle CV, 1.4:1 end result. These dice throws are killing me. Well, not me, but my virtual men atleast... Anyway, 7 USSR attacks gave 1 held, 3 retreats and 3 routs (Rumanians). Our whopping 2 attacks gave 1 held and 1 retreat. Yeah, the Axis are really on a roll now [:D] Losses USSR : 35.000 troops, 362 guns, 5 AFVs, 110 AC. Axis : 26.000 troops, 236 guns, 29 AFVs, 21 AC. German units disbanded 1 Luftwaffe Field Division. The problem is the low rate at which German units fill up at the front. If all my infantry divisions were to go up to 100% actual TOE, I am pretty sure the pool would be dry. Turn 93 Overall Apart from the usual attacks from the Crimea, the USSR also attacks on a broad front in the centre, they trap two divisions, but as I expected the attacks to come, I already had panzers in place, so the units were freed. The entire frontline is slowly fracturing now. 24 USSR attacks resulted in 14 helds, 8 retreats and 2 routs, while our 3 attacks gave 2 retreats and 1 rout. Losses USSR : 55.000 troops, 733 guns, 179 AFVs, 164 AC. Axis : 32.000 troops, 416 guns, 39 AFVs, 23 AC. Partisans 2 remain on the map after we take out 17. 164 Tigers in the pool... if they were all at the front. I don't think that production should be changeable, as this would ridicule the actual troubles encountered by the Germans over the years. But I do think that for Panzer Divisions one should be able to change the tank type.

Turn 97 Overall With some decent weather, we lash out to show the USSR that given the chance we will attack. Losses report is FUBAR as usual though... 1 USSR attack resulted in a held, while our 30 attacks gave 4 helds, 24 retreats and 1 rout. Now, the rout result is not as good as you might think, as it is merely a statement of the amount of USSR units on the map. The routed units did so because they had no retreat path... Losses USSR : 36.000 troops (simple math showed 42k+attrition though...), 915 guns, 13 AFVs, 450 AC. Axis : 35.000 troops, 385 guns, 74 AFVs, 82 AC. Partisans We kill off 10, leaving 5 on the map. Turn 98 Overall Mud is back, and the USSR did not really manage to do a lot with the clear weather last turn. 16 USSR attacks gave a result of 11 helds and 5 retreats. We do not attack at all this turn. Losses USSR : 43.000 troops, 489 guns, 82 AFVs, 470 AC. Axis : 37.000 troops, 328 guns, 100 AFVs, 48 AC. The USSR airforce is taking a beating these turns. Partisans Killing 8, means that another 8 is left on the map. looking back over your last set of posts it does seem as if you have a decent manpower reserve. Does that mean you can absorb the Soviet '43 offensive by giving ground rather than facing a major collapse when you simply run out of reinforcements/replacements ... or is that too optimistic a reading of your situation?
