I saw the gap in the AS values for both sides and I decided that it's time to unleash the mother of all air fights. I'm going for a lot of
airfield strikes in the first round of combat this turn. I'm hoping it doesn't cause turn burn. We'll see. I'll tell you what happened.

Here's the kind of typical results I'm getting:

Here's what the air briefing display says now. Whoa.

Petey -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/20/2013 6:27:46 PM)

Larry: would you kindly post a couple of screen shots of the front around Smolensk and Gorki. I'd like to see how then front line looks there. It would be interesting to see it from John's perspective also.

Thanks

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/20/2013 8:58:50 PM)

Here's the front lines in T45 of the Smolensk area. It's started snowing and the frozen marshes are passable now. I've already started
moving units to their new positions so that John can't infiltrate.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/20/2013 9:04:25 PM)

This probably isn't the Gorkiy you wanted to see. I couldn't find the one w/ the other spelling.

Petey -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/20/2013 10:06:42 PM)

No, the city I am interested in is spelled Gorki. It is about 3 hexes East of the front line. Your Dec 18 air briefing post showed a lot of interesting action there (behind the air brief window) but I see its in the Smolensk screen shot. Thanks

It seems that you and I found it together. Well, now I know. I tried looking it up by using the 'B' hotkey and that facility always found the
Gorkiy city first. I couldn't get it to gimme the right one. Oh well, all's well that ends well.

Petey -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/20/2013 10:28:28 PM)

A lot of green dot over stack hexes there in the Gorki/Smolensk area. Must still be some heavy fighting

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/20/2013 10:33:37 PM)

Um........I tried to use two adjacent hexes of mine attacking one hex of his and the losses were just prohibitive and soon gave up on that.
Now I'm attacking all those places where I can get three of my hexes to be adjacent to one of his. The losses aren't so high and John's
losses are higher. We're trading shots back and forth, mostly me firing at him by attacking and him bombing me with his JU-88's and
HE-111's and there's some air-to-air and STILL the front line isn't moving.

fogger -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/21/2013 3:33:23 AM)

Is this another bug?

Sorry guys that I have not been posting much of late. My wife has been very sick. The doctors have now said that she was 10-15 years older she would have died. As it was she was 48-72 hours of dieing when she went into hospital. She is on the slow road to recovery but we do not get all the test results back until Monday.

Here is the number of units in play

Um.......What is it about these two units, these two formations, that you think makes it suspect? I don't see anything wrong yet. Maybe
I'm missing something.

All this and you're still willing to play. I'm impressed. Take care of your wife and please accept all of our well wishes for her. For the
two of you. Really.

fogger -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/21/2013 5:10:35 AM)

What I was questioning was 1 regt turns up and the rest of the Division 230 turns (2.5 years) later. Is this true for these 2 units / divisions?

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/21/2013 5:55:10 AM)

Ah..........well, you have a good point there. I'm not sure myself if it's a bug or not but I agree it does sound fishy. Who would we ask
about this? The person who built the OOB I guess. There must be sources for the OOB and so on. Fire up FITE and take a look at
how FITE handles that unit? Maybe a good start. I'll get right on it.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/21/2013 6:11:14 AM)

It turns out that FITE handles things just about the same way Ron's Mod V.10 does. Just one unit of each formation in turn 39.

EDIT: And the rest of the formation(s) comes in turns in the future. It's the same in both then.

fogger -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/21/2013 12:51:40 PM)

Yes, but what normally happens is that you raise the HQ first and then the units attached. So unless these Regts were raised as independent Regts and later expanded into Divisions I think it might be a bug. All depends upon their history. Does anybody know the history of the units?

Lobster -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/21/2013 1:42:14 PM)

History of the EStonian division. I imagine the other is not much different. It is also in the list to the right but is Russian.

Hey Lobster dude: Thanks a lot for the link. I took a look around and was amazed at the detail provided. I sure hope it's accurate.
I have no reason to believe it's not. John appreciates it to I'm sure.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/22/2013 11:29:06 PM)

OK. It's T46 and this is a section of the front lines to the SW of Leningrad. John has all the rested up, refit, refueled, ready to go, stuff
in the world here and he's not attacking. Does he know something I don't? Maybe instead of attacking all the time I should go to
defensive mode and see what happens in the spring. I can't make any headway against the kinds of stuff John has here. And another
thing.....I was going to go ahead and label all of them in the picture but it started looking busy so I quit the label business.

Lots of impressive firepower there. SS and mech too.

Yeah, the only thing missing are the tactical nukes. Maybe he doesn't know how thin my lines are. If he's low on supply that too would explain it. Sort of.

Here's how the air war is going right now: This is just before combat round two

OK. It's the beginning of T48 and I'm seeing this screen:

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/26/2013 2:56:48 AM)

The rate of production of Rifle Squads has at least doubled and they are flying off the shelf and into units. The number of on-hand
squads is way lower because of all the attacking I've been doing and on the other hand I've never had so many squads deployed to
the field. Over 80K. I'm going to have to give some thought to building a proper reserve and maybe cutting back on so much
attacking all over the map. I'm thinking of concentrating just on the Crimea and letting the rest of the troops rest a bit.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/26/2013 3:41:18 AM)

Here's one of the little stories that happen in wartime. I was going through the OOB moving units and I've come to a Mtn Cav unit that
somehow got caught up in the attacking hysteria and is plunging headlong into the front lines, saber drawn, at a full gallop. Little do
they know that the Axis engineers have set anti-horse mines in their path and they are all going to be cut down enmass. Oh well.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/26/2013 3:58:43 AM)

I was curious about the numbers of horsies that I have and was astonished to discover that I have over 5K of them deployed and what's
worse I'm going to be producing about 148 of them every turn for the rest of the war. I hate to just lose them in modern combat so I'm
thinking of using them as garrison duty or something.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/26/2013 4:26:04 AM)

The supply level(s) in the Crimea are excellent for combat so I can't use that for an excuse for why things went so wrong. Also, I'm
getting good recon of those adjacent units there are and some of the German units are cherry red. So I need to continue the push.
And to stop attacking everywhere else so that the losses won't be quite so damaging and I'll have to rail in some fresh divisions to make
this work. So I'm moving spare divisions all over the map to the rail so as to be ready to move next turn. John has been bombarding
my railroads where they cross a river, specifically at the bridges, to try to cut off my dudes from their supply and to prevent me from using
the rail to move units around flexibly. So far I've been able to keep up with the bridge breaks and it hasn't been a problem. Especially
now that I'm doing so many air strikes. I've tried to target his bombers specifically, to force their air force to defend the bombers and
whenever the enemy fighters fly, at least a few of my fighters fly and they have a lopsided air-to-air but the Axis is slowly being worn
down. At least that's the theory.

Petey -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (12/26/2013 4:36:46 AM)

I like the way the Crimea is going for the Soviets.

As you know they fielded quite a large number of Cavalry units during the war. But I've never heard of a "mountain cavalry" unit. Seems like an oxymoron. Cavalry units were good over open distances, like steppes. Seems odd to have a mounted unit trained in mountain operations. Must be some sure-footed horses.
