Thanks Ogar, I'll look into it. The heavy reading will have to wait a while as the FitE2 and TOAW 3.6 projects currently get priority in the time schedule, followed by the D-Day to the Elbe scenario.

I hadn't thought about it. I don't think its poossible to tell Elmer not to defend within the city.

I don't think that would be such a bad thing. (Apologies to any religious folks who might read that comment).

Here's the East side in T77. As you can see the supply level is slowly getting better. I may be able to start moving again.

Some of you guys are wondering how I get that display screen that depicts the equipment. In the Unit Display screen just click on the
equipment that you want to look at. If there's a column of equipment types they should all be clickable this way. I use it all the time to
decide whether the aircraft is a high altitude type ( for AA differences ). I found out that the P-47 is particularly good to use on tanks.
The Stuka is good against ships. Etc.

Here's the front lines in T81. You can see what difference good supply makes to the moving units. I'm way ahead in the middle of the
map and the East and West sides are lagging. But we're blasting ahead and moving forward and progress is being made.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/19/2014 7:33:53 PM)

I've received my first P-51 Mustang unit. It came into the game on an island at the bottom of the map and I've flown it to an airfield near
Rome. It can reach any spot on the map so the Germans can't hide. Not that they need to anymore. I've already destroyed all the Axis
squadrons but as soon as they get another aircraft unit to respawn I'm ready w/ the P-51's, P-38's and Spitfire IX's

The British 223 squadron is down to it's last 9 planes and they aren't being built very fast so it's going to be a while before the unit
gets any more replacements so to put it to good use I've flown it to Tunisia where the boss of the boss of 223 squadron is going to use
one of the planes to get his flying pay for this month. You have to fly something like an hour a week or four hours a month to qualify and
sometimes it's something that get's scheduled at the last minute. The pilots are training the rookies and they are teaching
ground school and a lot of them are on leave. If they can catch a plane to England and back they can go for a couple of days.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/19/2014 8:14:00 PM)

I've run into the Gothic Line in the middle of the map and there's probably arty behind them so I'm going to wait for more recon to see
just what's back there and besides there's no hurry in this......I'll just bomb them from the air and do some arty strikes to wear down the
defenders and make this a little easier.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/19/2014 8:21:51 PM)

Here's what the West coast looks like now. Units are still making their way north and looking into nooks for Germans. It's slow and
tedious but must be done. I don't expect to get to the mainstream units until I get to the Gothic Line on this side but there has been the
occasional strongpoint thingie. I can usually apply some air power on them for a turn or so and then the ground units can roll right over
them. I like to surround them before I destroy them too.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 12:29:12 AM)

I've reached the Arno River and I'm not seeing a lot of German defenders. I suspect that most of them are at the Gothic Line.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 2:28:46 AM)

I had originally thought to post this as an example of where the new supply rules aren't working. But I've thought about it some more
and I'm not sure that's the situation here. Which is that there's this broken bridge that's seemingly conveying supplies still. But I'm
thinking that the source of that supply could possibly come from a different road or something. Let me break some more bridges and
take another look.

Here's the aircraft losses for the Allies so far:

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 3:57:22 AM)

Here's the front lines in T84. I'm still pushing north and running into more Germans. I'm pounding them from the air to make it easy to
roll over them. It's working so far. It's slower than just using the brute strength of the land combat units but I want to save some of the
troops if I can. And I can. I guess there's no hurry anymore.

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 6:14:24 AM)

The scenario wasn't designed for these three options. [:-]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 8:10:07 AM)

Oh. Ok, I'll fix the three options and do a re-start w/ the options corrected. Okay?

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 11:51:02 AM)

Well, I don't know if its worth a full restart, but that's up to you. I've made two changes since you last started. 1) Made it so the Italian 211.Coastal Division doesn't withdraw when Italy surrenders. This division fought alongside the Germans in defending the Calabria area. 2) Added some German AA units to airfields in northern Italy. I thought they could use a little protection, but they are also in the way of the Partisan units up there, so I'm not sure they will have a lasting effect.

Let me know if you want this version and I'll send it to you pronto.

Thanks!

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 12:08:19 PM)

Yeah, let's have that new version and I'll do a full restart w/ the options correct this time.

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 12:35:21 PM)

Okie Dokie, file sent.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 12:47:02 PM)

File received, upgrade performed, restart restarting. Here's the options I'm planning on using this time. It's not so much a problem to
do a restart because I'm retired and have nothing but time on my hands. Besides this is a good scenario and it's fun to do the opening
part.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 12:53:37 PM)

OK. Here's the starting positions. The initial problem for the Allies is to connect the separate beaches together and capture those hexes
where there's turn 2 expected reinforcements will enter the game. And then to move north and clear the road of Germans and see if
the Americans can't get to Messina before the British.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 1:10:16 PM)

The expected reinforcements come into the game in turn 2 in several places and I think I may have depicted them in the image below.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 1:39:23 PM)

Here's my round 1 moves. I've captured some airfields and then moved some fighters in for air support and CAP support and I need to
remember to move them out of Gerrman arty range before the turn ends so they don't get pounded by arty like last time. Also, I've
started a good surround on some German units in the SE corner of the map. I hope to be able to dispatch them easily and quickly.
Elements of the British 1st Armoured Div have already started their journey to Messina along the East coast road. Little resistance so
far.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 1:47:52 PM)

North of the invasion beaches there's an airdrome w/ several airfields w/ German aircraft based there. I've got enough bombers and
fighters to target about two German airfields per round and I'm going to do some airfield attacks to try to whittle down the number of
German aircraft that might interfere w/ the landings. I'm pretty sure I've gotten a toehold on the island however.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/A5467D195A02476A94AC19EA3BB3A760.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 1:53:59 PM)

Evidently I miscalculated and struck three airfields or else a lot of German fighters were shot down in round 1 because in round 2 as
you can see, there's only two squadrons of Germans left to dispatch. So we'll hit those two airfields in round two to get rid of them.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/139A8C6734764945AD4AC4212F288F6E.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 2:01:25 PM)

The bad news is that four of the fighter squadrons went into reorg. So they can't fly. I can't move them to safety. So some of them may
get pounded by German arty. D'oh.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 2:20:57 PM)

Here's the starting positions at the beginning of T2. The German armour made a hole in my front lines and I need to commit the reserve
to contain the Germans. Also I need to move that German arty back out of range of my airfields.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/1C9F4E75B717467FAC39A017F69569C4.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 3:12:37 PM)

Here's my turn 2 moves. Things are looking up. I connected the beaches and the Germans in the SE corner of the
map are going, going, almost gone. I received some reinforcements that I'm thrusting into the front lines already and the toehold looks
like it might be permanent.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/C13B5B32EE43482E8C7A959202CF03A4.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 3:29:28 PM)

Here's the positions at the beginning of turn 3. My counterbattery arty didn't prevent the loss of two squadrons ( 1 was Spitfire V's and
the other was Spitfire IX's ) to German arty. D'oh. Just like last game.........you'd thing I would have learned. Next time through this
scenario I'll wait for a turn or two before I import any planes to the island. And the German armor pushed all the way to the defending arty
in the middle. I have a solution to that problem but it's embarassing nonetheless. Also, on the far left there's a large formation of
Germans that came out of the woodwork and have almost swamped my left flank. They need some help and the British on the far right
are almost unemployed since they finished off that group of Germans they had surrounded. They are almost ready to start heading
north.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 4:06:07 PM)

Here's my turn 3 moves. I'm getting around behind the Germans on the far right and I'm blocking the Germans on the far left and it's
looking like there may be a way north somewhere in the middle.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/0513F9E33957461E91A9A43C1B4FFB7C.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 4:19:41 PM)

Here's the positions at the beginning of turn 4: I'm finishing up ( on the far right side ) surrounding and destroying a German grouping.
The Axis units in the middle are problematic. I'm not sure I can get much of a surround on those guys. But I'll try.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/3B448BE3C04B497985C862EB2D2CF04A.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/20/2014 8:19:00 PM)

Here's the beginning of T5. The situation is developing. The British have one more attack to make before they will be done mopping
up on the far right. The far left is still under terrific pressure and there have been savage attacks by the Germans there. The Germans
in the middle are proving to be a hard row to hoe. I'm thinking that the Allies in the middle of the map are going to need a fresh infusion
of boots on the ground before they can make any serious progress.
