All the Italians left back when Italy surrendered, including the Air Force. So, you shouldn't be seeing any Italian Air units at this point.

Here's the result I was misremembering. Where it's likely that the Luftwaffe will reduce.

Here's the front lines in T34. Now that Foggia has been captured the priority shifts to the West coast. I'm going to have to shift all the
RR engineers to the Rome area so they can start building new rail from there headed N and NE. Plus there's some units near Paestum
that have become available to move to Rome. That ought to be about four turns or so to get them there.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/23/2014 8:42:13 PM)

I've been moving units in T34 and I've succeeded in surrounding the German equipment at Foggia so the rest of the units can just
proceed north and keep going. The railhead is getting closer and the supply is good enough to keep going so .........

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/23/2014 9:02:15 PM)

More T34 news. I'm reducing the German remnants at Paestum and for the group near Salerno: I'm thinking that there's no good place
to attack a German from three adjacent hexes and the supply level is low....I'm thinking I should stage another landing, say at Napoli or
Salerno to get behind the Germans and unhinge their defense that way. I'm looking into gathering the units for that even as we speak.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/23/2014 9:34:39 PM)

Ok. Here's the beginning of T35. I got Paestum all right but the Germans broke through the defenders north of Paestum near
Salerno. Just in time I just happen to have some relatively fresh defenders that can move up there and take over. Whew.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/23/2014 9:40:07 PM)

Here's Anzio now. I'm moving units toward ports to be able to sail to Anzio next turn but the German units are starting to show up on the
front lines as red dense and I'm expecting a major attack in the near future. It's not looking good, and hasn't since this landing started.
I think I wouldn't do it again given a chance to chose again.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/23/2014 10:21:43 PM)

Here's the front lines in T36. I've been undergoing all kinds of ground attacks and bombardments from the Germans and my CS
missions are really making a difference. I'm able to hold my ground because of that. Almost everybody flying is on CS missions
and it's really helping.

I'm thinking those guys on the East coast should peel off some units and search West to clear out the middle somewhat. As well as
pushing north. That will split the force but the force is large enough to do that.

I've got RR engineers headed to Anzio to build the rail N and NE and so far so good.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I wanted to say that I think I need another landing at Salerno or Napoli to break up the German defenses
near Salerno. It will save people in the long run.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/23/2014 10:43:26 PM)

Here's Anzio in T36. I found some more units to ship in and it's looking like Anzio might hold from now on. More arty and more units and
CS is working good. We're here to stay now I think. We're spreading out from the east coast and branching out to the west and north
and I'm looking for some units, a formation ideally, to use to clear out the middle. Say the Free French on Corsica. We can leave Corsica
to later.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/23/2014 11:36:09 PM)

I used the Free French units from Morocco or someplace and exploited the landings at Napoli a little bit. The landing attempted at
Salerno didn't even get on the beach. D'oh. I'm thinking I have enough AS to protect the floating unit during the Axis turn but I'm
not sure. I guess this is the test to see whether or not we can protect a floating unit on the high seas. Too bad they didn't volunteer
for this test. Way it goes I guess.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/23/2014 11:51:32 PM)

Here's the front lines now. The blue dots near Napoli are new and now I have the task of connecting the separate areas. Even the
east coast w/ the West coast. And push north, meanwhile, from Anzio. I'd really like to grab those airports near Rome. I could park
almost the entire fleet near there. Every once in a while I'll get interdicted by Axis planes and I check the air war display and see how
the number of enemy planes shot down is higher so I guess my AS is interdicting the enemy interdictors. Cool.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 12:20:44 AM)

I flew most of the air fleet to Foggia to take advantage of the relatively high supply and to be in range of most of the map. The number
of Axis interdictors has fallen off a lot. I'm going to have to start doing airfield attacks again soon.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 2:22:07 AM)

Here's the T39 front lines. I'm doing mop up at Salerno and the group at Napoli is expanding outward. The East edge is inching
northward and I've got units moving in the middle of the map. I'm losing a lot of partisans. They have busted a lot of North Italy
bridges and it's stirred up a hornets next. And I've seen Elmer repair the bridge sometimes too.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 3:22:47 AM)

This is what it looks like at Rome looking south. I'm trying to hold off the hordes from the west side and press northward in the middle
and pressing SE to make a connection w/ the other nearest area I hold. I'm rapidly running out of units. So I'm going to have to look
around to see if I can't find some more unemployed units.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 4:54:48 AM)

Here's the T41 front lines. I've annotated the picture w/ what's happening. I've gotten all the Free French off Corsica and into Napoli
and they are spreading out and converting hexes and tending toward the middle of the map. The East edge is advancing north and
is reducing enemy roadblocks when they encounter them. I've moved a lot of the air fleet to Foggia, maybe I've mentioned that before,
and the rail line is getting close to Foggia and the rail at Anzio is advanced up to the front line already so now they are repairing the
rail toward the SE. Progress is being made.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 10:44:42 AM)

Here's a T43 view of the mop up operations. After this it'll just be everybody pressing north. I need to switch the RR engineers
to a rail headed north from Anzio to Rome. And from there to the N and NE.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 12:05:56 PM)

I've been keeping this partisan element busy busting bridges. That one grey embarked Axis unit is an engineer. He's going to be kept
busy too. I need to bomb him a bit.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 12:22:32 PM)

Here's the Rome area now. I'm slowly pushing the Germans back and blowing holes in their lines. The CS is helping a lot. Plus I've got
a boat-load of arty behind the front putting out a rolling barrage. The arty pieces don't move very much since the front wasn't moving
very much so they have grown their supply level to 100+ and I've got them set for three-dot attacks. It's making a difference in the
resolution of the combat(s) that it can influence. I'm guessing Rome will be in Allied hands in about 5 turns or so.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 12:57:52 PM)

I usually have plenty of CS on hand when I'm attacking via land combat. It's making a difference too. Plus there's arty in range.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 1:24:08 PM)

I may have to revise my estimate of when Rome will fall now that I've had better recon on the target. There's at least two
mechanized units sitting in Rome and they aren't going to be easy to push around. I'm going to need at least a division
to handle them. I'll see if I can't find one not doing anything right now. The mopping up operations are almost at an end
and, then again, everybody will be pressing north. My partisans have devestated northern Italy for supply purposes. There
may be another supply point in the middle of Italy somewhere, maybe Balogna, and I'll drop the bridges around that place
to see where else supply might be coming from.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 2:11:23 PM)

Here's the T46 front lines. Mopping up is completed and those units can now be moved to the rear of the German front line so as to
unhenge the German defense. East edge is proceeding north. West side if pressing for Rome. Middle of the map is where there's
a lot of action and lots of defenders. I'm thinking that these are the Gustov Line units that I've finally found.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 11:02:45 PM)

Here's the T48 front lines. I'm moving north on the East side and I've got Rome surrounded on the West side and there's a raging
fight going on in the middle.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 11:32:20 PM)

Here's the Rome area in T48. I'm in mop up mode and there's units pressing east into the middle of the map. I'm seeing an opportunity
to start on the East coast and build rail west into the middle. But on the other hand there's a good beginning of a rail near Rome....
maybe I should just lengthen what's working well already.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/24/2014 11:37:43 PM)

Here's a view of the fighting in the middle of the map. I'm pressing the enemy units to get into fewer hexes so I can surround them
better. I'm going to be entering mop up mode for this group on the south edge soon and then we'll press further east.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/25/2014 12:30:20 AM)

Here's the front lines in T49. In the middle I'm mopping up and the supply level is getting too low on the East coast to conduct combat
but in the West we're pressing north again. Some small mop up near Rome. I'm shifting the RR engineers to the Rome area to work on
the rails headed N and NE. Mostly the NE one.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/AD424B0329584627AF873DFE85F29555.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/25/2014 12:37:14 AM)

Here's a view of the rail heading NE out of Rome. I'm thinking I can build this rail in about 50 turns or so. Whoa.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/11EF290DA9074A4A9F9574E0ADC6738F.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/25/2014 4:33:53 AM)

Here's the supply situation in the middle. It's sufficiently low that each attack must be "saved up for" in terms of supply. I like the units
to have about 70% readiness before they attack. I can't always get that but it's a good target. Keeps the units strong for combat even
though it does slow down the tempo of operations somewhat.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/25/2014 5:43:29 AM)

I've been keeping the partisans busy busting bridges. They must have busted close to 50 of them now.
