larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/1/2014 3:55:46 AM)

The partisans have been busy busting bridges in northern Italy. Each of those red dots is a blown bridge and I haven't seen much Axis
bridge repair going on. There was one instance of it but that was in southern Italy a long time ago now.

My rails are getting longer and the supply level..........is pretty much the same so far.

EDIT: It just dawns upon me that I'll probably have to repair a lot of those when I go to run the map. I'm pretty sure there's enough turns
left for me to get a good start on running the map. We'll see.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/1/2014 4:07:32 AM)

Hey, the supply level on the West coast is starting to get bettter.......I'm starting to see some 4's and 5's. It was all 1's for a long time.
The rail is getting closer but is still far away. The situation is worse on the east coast because the rail has a further distance to go before
it's useful at all.

Here's the supply situation on the east coast. You can see what I mean about the further distance and look at how fast the supply
level drops off even in this picture.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/1/2014 4:20:05 AM)

Here's the supply level on the east coast and it's getting better. I'm starting to see some 1's at the bottom right. Maybe I should put all
the RR engineers on this one track for a little while if only to get these folks some beans, bullets, and band aids. I'll make that change
next turn.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/1/2014 5:06:39 AM)

Here's the T77 front lines. I'm thinking I've overreached on the west side. I'm going to have to pull back several units and reposition
them in more appropriate places. More and more Germans are showing up at the front lines and I don't have the troops there to hold
them back. So I'm going to switch from INT missions to CS and hope for the best.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/1/2014 5:24:47 AM)

Hey you guys........a thought just occured to me. I haven't seen any Axis rail being repaired nor any bridges being repaired, at least not
lately. So I'm thinking I don't have to destroy the bridge, just convert the rail hexes. That would make running the map soooooooo much
more smooth than breaking all these bridges and then having to repair them. Oh, and happy new year everyone.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/1/2014 5:33:37 AM)

Here's a close up of the west coast hot area. I'm going to use the 2nd New Zealand Division as my reserve and I'm thinking the
occasion will come that I'll have to use it. Soon maybe. I've transfered all the RR engineers except two to the rail line leading to
the east coast. And I've gotten a new Division as reinforcement and I'm going to use them to rotate out the Division holding the
front line on the East coast.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/1/2014 10:23:36 AM)

Here's the East coast in T81. We're finally starting to see some supply reach the front lines here. It's about time. Time to start up the
tanks and turn the war back on.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/1/2014 10:44:49 AM)

The Gothic line has picked up some Axis units new this turn: Rear Guards. All black and white and sinister looking. i'm not sure what
kind of equipment is in that kind of unit but it's worth 2 in defense which isn't much for a guard.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/2/2014 10:01:46 AM)

New for the Allied side this turn ( T82 ) is the 6th South African Division. As you can see it's a rather specialized unit. Some recon,
a mechanized regiment, and an HQ unit. That's the whole thing. I can use it to garrison something maybe. First of all, I want to send it
to the front to get some experience and maybe take up some of the slack up there. More and more Germans are showing up at the
Gothic Line all the time. I need more boots on the ground up there. Especially on the East Coast.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/2/2014 10:31:23 AM)

I've stopped the PO moving just so I could get a peek at the aircraft losses of the Axis side and I just happened to notice that there aren't
any aircraft assigned. There's no Axis air force. I've shot them all down or destroyed them on the ground. OK. I can live w'/ that.
Here's the Axis aircraft losses so far:

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/2/2014 3:11:05 PM)

Combined w/ the bridges the partisans have been able to knock down and the bridges I busted w/ my aircraft, I believe that we've
knocked down just about every rail giving supply to the Germans on the Gothic Line. That will make taking them down easier.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/2/2014 3:34:13 PM)

Here's a close up on the West coast as it looks now. I'm getting some surrounds going and I'm thinking I can make some progress
here. Once past the Gothic Line there will probably be another line somewhere. I'll find it and destroy it.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/2/2014 4:09:02 PM)

Here's a close up of the East coast now. The supply level is rising so I thought I'd do some adventure-ism.

Here's the front lines in T86: I'm pushing north and have a finger pointing into the Italian landscape.

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/3/2014 5:03:59 AM)

Drat, if it wasn't for that one gap, we may have had a halfway decent German defense at this line.

I'm getting lots of good intel on things to do with this one to improve it. I see the 'rearguard' units don't work as intended. My fault, I had two ideas on how to use them and now that I am looking into them I see that I used parts of both ideas instead of concentrating on one of them, which ruined how they work.

Also don't like the scale at which the partisans are affecting the map. There should be plenty of security forces hunting them down, but apparently not. I'll look into that.

The German forces were late into the bridge busting phase before they really started hunting the partisans. That's my impression. But
hunt them down they are doing. There's only a couple of partisans left as you can see from this list.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/3/2014 5:51:02 AM)

Here's the East coast situation now. I think I may have found a weak spot and I'm going to try to force it open and then try to roll up
the Axis lines one unit at a time I guess. There may be more German units unspotted that will make this plan moot.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/3/2014 5:55:35 AM)

Here's the supply situation on the West coast now. It's still too low for combat but at least a unit can afford to move about every other
turn. I'm aiming for a supply level in the units of 50% at least.

EDIT: Oh, and that finger leading to the north, I blew a hole in the German Line to be able to do that. It was one of those little Rear
Guard units and it folded pretty quickly after the application of a little airpower.

Elmer has started putting his air assets under an AA umbrella. I've shot down so many planes in the past I guess Elmer figured that out
finally and is doing something about it. Finally. Kudos to Ralph for getting Elmer to do this at all though. Good programming.

Yeah, I noticed from looking thru the oob that the partisans arrive rather early. Most of the 'Lingurian Army' which consists of a couple Italian divisions devoted to hunting them down arrive after turn 100. But there were still some German units assigned to fight them rather than head to the front lines, so I feel a little better that they are somewhere.

Do the 'rearguard' units generally RBC, or do you have to make an attack on them ?

I did see one Rear Guard RBC but the rest of them I've had to attack. They sit in an entrenchment = 100% hex and I'm wondering if that
makes a difference in the RBC die roll.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/3/2014 11:27:54 AM)

OK. I've finally gotten the railhead close to the East coast front lines so that the supply level is high enough for combat. I think I'll start
a push in this area somehow. I've found one weak spot and I'm going to press on it.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/3/2014 11:45:45 AM)

Ok. The advance is moving again. This is the combat results of my capture of Bologna. This is where they make baloney I think. This
is the first combat in a long time.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/3/2014 11:50:02 AM)

I stopped the Axis turn so I could see about the supply situation for the Axis and I've discovered that after the capture of Bologna that
the supply on the East coast is nil and that on the West coast is slowed to a trickle. All that bridge busting paid off finally.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/3/2014 1:31:24 PM)

Here's the front lines in T90. You can see where I'm wrapping around the end of his flank and I'm pushing north and there was
another example of a rearguard RBC-ing. Things are going rather well except for the constant lack of supply.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/4/2014 3:07:31 AM)

Here's a close up of the East coast. I blew a hole and ran through it to the German rear areas. More units to follow that one. Soon I
will surround the entire East coast German groups and destroy them.

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/4/2014 3:30:21 AM)

There's one more line, the Alpine Line, but at this point its not of great interest to me, the Gustav and Gothic lines were supposed to be the show stoppers. So if you are bored, don't let me keep you from moving on to something else. I've got a list of things to change for this one.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/4/2014 3:52:54 AM)

I think I'll keep going just because I don't have anything else to do more important and I'd like to get a copy of the
scenario w/ your changes so I can do it all again. Unless it's going to take a month or more to make the changes.
I could do a different scenario first and then come back to this one.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Sicily to Brenner Pass Revised (1/4/2014 4:08:18 AM)

Here's the West coast in T93: I'm doing a lot of mop up and the supply situation is MUCH better. The railhead is crossing the Arno and
it's starting to look good again.
