dazkaz15 -> Greyhound Dash Axis AAR by Daz (4/10/2014 3:00:43 PM)

I have decided to do an AAR on this.
My Elsenborn Ridge AAR is going to have to wait yet again I'm afraid.
I was waiting for the patching to end or at least stabilize before I started it, but now I am quite excited by this one, as I have never played it before as either side.

I am hoping that the experience I have acquired playing the game over the last few years is going to get me at least a draw, even on a first time run through.
We will have to wait and see.

This slide is a continuation of the work I have been doing in the War Room here

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3583010

Its just a continuation of me thinking out loud, while developing my plan for the fist few days of the battle, which are often the most critical.

Slide 1

Its amazing how you quickly find out you don't have enough forces available, to do all you wanted to do, when you start to allocate orders.
Such is the nature of war I guess [:'(]

Thanks for putting this together. I actually printed out the first two slides so I could use as a tutorial guide. The first one (well the panning map) turned out fine, but unfortunately when I scaled the second one (slide 1) down to 8.5 x 11 inch page size, the font was too small to read the orders. I think I'll have to resort to keeping a second window open and follow along that way. But I should be able to do that.

Thanks again!
Rick

Thanks Rick [:)]
I'm trying to think of the best way to help you out.
Did you want to PM me your email address, and Ill split the image in 2, then email you the 2 halves so you can print them out, then stick them together with tape?
Alternatively, do you use Dropbox?

Thanks Daz, but no need, spend the time you have available doing your AAR and making these nice visuals. I just grab the jpegs you post here using the 'attachment' link in the post. This morning I decided I would load slide 1 into Paint.net and cut out the two division orders and the map and print them that way.

Thanks again you make some nice visuals.

Rick

This AAR is amazing. Well done Daz. For your info, a shedload of allied reinforcements enter on Day 2 & 3 from the northwest edge of the map. Try and take Hotton by the end of Day 2 if you can. I look forward to more wonderful screenshots and artwork.

Phoenix100 -> RE: Greyhound Dash Axis AAR by Daz (4/23/2014 7:59:24 AM)

Lol, Daz. Looks a bit absurd, with those 'footprints' overlapping TF Hogan and nothing happening for so long. You send a save in? I would have given another order long ago, I'm afraid.

dazkaz15 -> RE: Greyhound Dash Axis AAR by Daz (4/23/2014 11:47:04 AM)

Its one of those things where you just say to yourself leave it 5 more min, Im sure they will surrender, then 5 min becomes an hour etc.

I sent a save to Miguel, but not sure if he is still active.
I have decided to drop the issue anyway.
I want to be playing with the planning graphics, and new interface of Command Ops 2, and this will only slow things down for them.
I think Dave has spent way more unpaid man hours supporting a very old game, than anyone should have to.

I have been suspicious of unrealistic outcomes with defending HQ's for a while, and have mentioned it before several times. I even did some tests on them.
This is the first conclusive example I have been able to come up with, so its not all that broken.
Platoon sized AC units are also fishy.
Not the Coy size ones though for some reason, but I don't have a conclusive example of this yet, as there is always something else interfering, that may, but is unlikely to, have an influence on the outcome of that example.
No one else seems bothered by them though so lets just carry on.

I am about to do the next hour of the AAR, and will be issuing the attacking Coy's new orders. Lets see what happens.
