I think your push along the South coast towards Romania is a very good strategy. I'm seeing lots of interesting strategic possibilities. If the armor is helping to speed this up then it's being well utilized. If not then some of it could be sent North.

You are playing it absolutely perfectly, Oshawott, I wouldn't change a thing. And you have even taught me a new trick here with this all tank front. Honestly, this game is like a how to manual on Soviet play, with zero cheese.

Thanks for the positive feedback. The tank front is something I really wanted to try out. The other positive aspect of using the tanks in the south is that two of those tank armies have now achieved guard status.

Oshawott -> T92 - North (8/5/2014 12:47:33 AM)

T92 - North

A cavalry corps sweeps north and captures the town of Imatra. The Finish surrender now depends on the dice and on how many units he has in Helsinki and if they are elite units. Well, the secret has already been given away. The Fins will capitulate on turn 100 so they are holding out for quite a long time. Maybe Stef can tell us how many units he had in Helsinki? I would assume three regular infantry divisions.

T92 - Center

South of Smolensk I have transferred the rocket division army from Bryansk front to Kalinin front. They will support 16th and 24th army in there task of cutting off Smolensk.

Bryansk front will be tasked with capturing Gomel and will then probably push northwest.

T92 - South

I am now hitting another well fortified line and have to switch over to overkill attacks. 1st Panzer (Manstein if I remember correctly) suffers heavy losses.

Is that a large hole in his line between Smolensk and Gomel or has that area just not been spotted?

Not spotted. I took the screenshot right after the battle and before I moved my other troops. At this point I have to be very careful with Recon planes. I have very few left.

Oshawott -> T93 - North (8/5/2014 3:29:43 AM)

T93 - North

Waiting for the Fins to capitulate. The encirclement operation didn't work out. There was not enough time.

Oshawott -> T93 - South (8/5/2014 3:32:01 AM)

T93 - South

One last push before mud. I hit multiple Panzer divisions including Das Reich which had just counter-attacked.

T93 - Overview

An overview of the front. Now we have four turns of mud and I take a little break.

You remember correctly but I gave him the head of another Pzk during the blizzard to save 2 inf divs surrounded.

Not sure if it's the best choice but I always tend to let my best generals at the lowest level of command. Sometimes e-Hitler dismisses them....

Oshawott -> T99 - OOB (8/7/2014 2:04:13 AM)

T99 - OOB

OOB after the mud turns. Axis has somewhat recovered.

Oshawott -> T100 - North (8/7/2014 2:06:59 AM)

T100 - North

The Finns have capitulated but Vyborg will forever remain Finnish. The Cavalry Corps army has already been railed to Pskov and the rest will follow next turn.

Oshawott -> T100 - Northwest (8/7/2014 2:10:38 AM)

T100 - Northwest

This area is going to be interesting. The entire Leningrad front is now going to attack at Pskov to push west to the Gulf of Riga.

Oshawott -> T100 - Center (8/7/2014 2:12:57 AM)

T100 - Center

Pushing towards the Dnepr. Rokossovsky will take Gomel.

Oshawott -> T100 - South (8/7/2014 2:17:20 AM)

T100 - South

Hitting the entire line. Further north he retreats behind the Dnepr. Central Front will have the task to take Kiev but is too weak at the moment.

Oshawott -> T102 - North (8/9/2014 12:45:41 AM)

T102 - North

Clearing the line for the drive towards the Gulf of Riga. There are only very weak forces in my way.

Oshawott -> T102 - Center (8/9/2014 12:48:50 AM)

T102 - Center

The main goals for Bryansk Front and Kalinin Front are to capture Gomel and to clear the eastern bank of the Dnepr. Once the eastern bank is secured most troops will shift to the land bridge.

Oshawott -> T102 - South (8/9/2014 12:52:45 AM)

T102 - South

It's getting tough in the South! I can only attack a few hexes and he is always counter-attacking. In addition battlefield density is becoming a real problem. STAVKA is pondering a major reshuffling of the front. Plans are in the works.

Oshawott -> T102 - Interdiction (8/9/2014 12:58:43 AM)

This is one of numerous examples of the AI conducting suicide interdiction attacks. I don't really know how the Axis can avoid these kind of attacks. I always turn interdiction of when I play Axis. Although I have to say that he had some very good results in the south in the last couple of turns. Some of my units had not enough MP after interdiction and had to retreat. In one case my tank corps was hit hard and I had to decide whether to let it participate in the attack and get slaughtered the next turn or to retreat. I took the slaughtering option. But in the long run I don't know if interdiction is worth it.

Oshawott -> T103 - South (8/10/2014 3:42:26 AM)

T103 - South

In the North he has evacuated Estonia. I forgot to take a screenshot. In the South I attack some of his elite units and numerous Panzer divisions which have just been engaged in combat so their fatigue is high. Axis losses for the second attack are so high because the units were pushed over a major river which triples losses.

Oshawott -> T104 - Rail Movement (8/10/2014 7:24:59 PM)

T104 - Rail Movement

A major reorganization is going on. The tanks of Southwestern Front are moved to different sectors of the front. The south was simply to crowded. I used the tanks a couple of turns for reserve activation and this worked surprisingly well. However, the Axis is focusing on just one or two counterattacks and most of those reserve activations weren't making any difference. Highler losses for the Axis, yes, but also higher tank losses and morale losses for me.

Oshawott -> T104 - Partisans (8/10/2014 7:27:01 PM)

T104 - Partisans

Partisan activity is reaching a fever pitch. They are intensely focused on destroying anything in the Pripyat marshes. [:D]

Oshawott -> T105 - North (8/11/2014 2:48:19 AM)

T105 - North

He has evacuated Estonia and his troops are fleeing south. I already flipped the entire area and captured the port of Parnu on T103. The port acts as an immediate supply source.

Oshawott -> T105 - Center (8/11/2014 2:49:58 AM)

T105 - Center

Tank Corps are in place but setup will soon change due to developments in the north. The eastern bank of the Dnepr has almost been cleared.

Oshawott -> T105 - Kiev (8/11/2014 2:51:13 AM)

T105 - Kiev

A HELD result at Kiev. However, I have plans here for the near future.

Oshawott -> T105 - South (8/11/2014 2:54:22 AM)

T105 - South

He launches a series of impressive counter-attacks. I immediately strike back and focus on troops that have been in combat and are fatigued. One thing is clear. The momentum in the south has been lost. His elite troops are too strong. It will be a slow grinding advance from this point on.
