Surprise..sort of. WJD CVL's/CVE exactly 320 nm NNE of Rabaul. The other surprise..to the IJN..USN carriers South of Rabaul. Too far apart for hot carrier on carrier action.
So the Kates go after shipping at Rabaul which has arrived AFTER the IJN crusiers left.

All those alleged BB's at Sorong yesterday are gone..probably headed to Rabaul. A major ****storm is headed
for Rabaul in 2-3 d. We attack at Rabaul today. If it doesn't work we try to get out what we can.

witpqs -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (1/31/2015 5:26:04 PM)

Based on analysis of mouse-over Intel from my games I figure that the IJN gets 32x BB, 76x CV (various sizes), and about 487x CL. Just sayin'.

Yes. [:)] The IJN force north of Rabaul has no less than 4 CVE's a CVL and a BB.

**********FOB "RH", Waikiki, Dec. 25, 1942***********

FAM: Doctor, the way I see it, the intercepted phrase, broadcast in English in the clear, "Bring it on" means they are spoiling for a fight where they have the advantage.

Psychological consultant: Definitely bravado. I believe the last time we heard something like that from IJN high command, hey sent their carriers around Java sinking helpless merchants.

FAM: Aren't you going to say something about childhood trauma or something?

Psychological consultant: Oh, we don't believe in that Freudian **** anymore, sir.

FAM: Freudian ****? What are we paying you for then? Look, here is the thing. Is it a bluff or not?

Psychological consultant: We estimate 53% probability it is NOT a bluff.

FAM: 53%, what am I supposed to do with that?

Psychological consultant: That wasn't within the scope of our analysis, sir, but, personally, I would have another drink.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (2/1/2015 1:29:03 PM)

Well?.................Bluff..or...not?

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (2/1/2015 2:46:59 PM)

Let's see:

1) One of Hiryu class with 15 in hole in hull

2) KB in South China Sea

3) Raid on Rabaul yesterday contained only Kates

4) Heavy surface group coming down from Sorong, most likely

5) JJ will likely try to stand off at 8 hexes and get a free raid in from the Kates

Instead of staying predictably near Rabaul..perhaps move West and ambush the SCTF coming from Sorong?

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (2/1/2015 3:02:35 PM)

USN counterstrike is evidently from Lexington alone because every plane on Enterprise is a charcoal briquette

Afternoon attack. I don't know how badly Lexington is hurt yet.
She might be able to run SE and get out of range but I doubt it.
Probably the IJN carriers can stay North of New Britain and still hit her next turn.

It's both. 3 carrier TF's reacted. Morning attack had 101 bombers, with many B5N2's and Vals.

interesting, Vals score 21% and Kates 2%. Assuming all the Kates carry the tube of death.

Already, the Shinto-boys are consumed with victory disease and are bombarding us with gloating emails. We have them right where we wanted them.

Well they're at the strongest relative to us they will ever be and so far they've sunk 1 battlecruiser and maybe 1 carrier and damaged another.
