Already, the Shinto-boys are consumed with victory disease and are bombarding us with gloating emails. We have them right where we wanted them.

Well they're at the strongest relative to us they will ever be and so far they've sunk 1 battlecruiser and maybe 1 carrier and damaged another.

See...how can you argue with optimism like that? [:D]

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (2/1/2015 4:37:40 PM)

We(I) lost Lexington on June 28, 1941(c)..although that time we at least sunk a CVL and CVE.

Wow, that's an unfortunate start. Lose Lexington before the onset of hostilities? Bummer.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (2/1/2015 4:49:48 PM)

I am pretty sure Sgt Minderbinder had something to do with that.

It was sold off as scrap under a no-bid contract, then sold back to USN(c) for an exorbitant price on Dec 7, 1941(c).

So today I started my Couch to 5k journey. 53 yo, 6'4 and 18 stone jogging across Southsea Common is not a pretty sight.

Well, good on you for trying, mate. But nothing to be embarrassed about. You sound fit to me.

BTW, the "stone:pounds:kg" translation (for us non-English) is 10:1:2.2, right?

Of course! It's like the metric system for a 14 toed salamander from the late Devonian. Everyone should switch over

Splendid! When the weather warms up you can go shirtless and give Miss Funfanny a thrill.

Enterprise has 35% fire and can make 21 kts. Saratoga swims with the fishes. JJ has several options to finish off Enterprise.

I think we are going to need devine help or perhaps Sgt Minderbinder.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (2/2/2015 8:26:42 PM)

I used to run 40 miles a week.

But then I stopped.

Well?.................Bluff..or...not?

I haven't been reading this thread regularly for some time, so I'm behind in my reading.

But I'd say 'not a bluff'.

Hope this helps.

FAM: Doesn't matter.

Foreign looking man in Hawaiian shirt..same one he had on yesterday: What-ah wrong, my friend?

FAM: Well, I shouldn't talk..but...you guys are from LA....we lost Enterprise.

**********December 27, 1941(e)************

Improbably, no, almost miraculously, Lexington escapes any damage on the 27th...at least according to the
combat text file...but not the combat replay.

Not sure how we repeat that tomorrow.

He shouldnt complain. How many of those ships did he total?? I remember him sending one crashing through the atmosphere of a new planet. What do you think the deductible is on one of those??

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (2/6/2015 1:17:48 PM)

The thrust vector for Kirk's Enterprise is quite obviously not on axis with the center of mass. Every time you step on the gas the thing would pinwheel like Hell throwing the crew in their sissy uniforms into bulkheads and ceilings. If you were unlucky enough to be in the crapper at the time they would have to write a letter home to your family.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (2/6/2015 1:52:47 PM)

The plan: Lexington task force relabeled as "Escort" to try to trick the target planning guy with the KB. LRCAP from PM. Few dive bomber remnants at PM have their range chopped down so they might get lucky on a SCTF. No CAP over PM to soak off some bombers toward the AK's there. Cripples from the previous day's battle pretty much on their own.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (2/6/2015 2:01:56 PM)

JJ, recognizing we might block the exits to the Bismarck, has SCTF out ahead. Either that or they got lucky. We do not get free shots at their carriers.
Indianapolis and her sister ship are set on high threat tolerance because the mission is important.

HMAS Wollongong is sent West from Rabaul to cause trouble. They succeed in using up a few rounds of BB ammo. Fortunately, there are no real people aboard or I might have more trouble sleeping.

Now it is time for Houston guarding the Western patrol box. JJ has BB's "arr ovah prace"

Houston pays the ultimate price but does manage to set both BB's alight and Flusser sinks Hatsukaze. This is a prolonged gunfight. Most likely the BB magazines are low and they will be out of the fight tomorrow.
