The Komodo Dragons ALMOST make it to Bima but stop to gaze at the Southern Cross too long. It might have run the board type naval victory...too bad. Lillys on naval attack with no escort are slaughtered

I can't believe these guys made it from the northern limits of the Makassar Strait since the night of the 4th. The US cruisers are 40 miles away as sun sets. It's the freaking 48th Div from the PI. Unprepped. HOLD ON LADS! HELP IS ON THE WAY!

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (7/24/2021 9:29:55 PM)

This seems pretty high risk for the Empire. Bima is a backwater place with a level 2 AF and crappy supply. We do have 2300 troops there but we have more of those. :-) These must be some serious high-value Maru's if they move that fast. Perhaps they "misunderestimated" Allied naval assets in the area or perhaps the KB is up there somewhere and this is bait?

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (7/24/2021 9:35:33 PM)

On a different subject, Netflix has spent hundreds of millions on the O'Bama projects and, as filler in the interim, they have about 15 Bruce Willis "sci-fi" movies which seem to have been shot on two week schedules and $100K budgets.

I would call and cancel but SG is paying for it. :-)

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (7/24/2021 9:37:07 PM)

I watched something really good recently but can't remember what it was. [:D]

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (7/24/2021 9:59:56 PM)

Ah, yes...."Darkest Hour". 1940 British politics. Tremendously good. Great acting.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (7/24/2021 10:10:42 PM)

Also "Danger Close" about an Australian unit in Vietnam. Very good. The sound is a 10.

Altered Carbon was good. No W*** politics, people were just people.

I think all the women under 40 ran out of Netflix things to watch 9 months ago. Even the non-Hispanic women are having babies. It's crazy. A mini baby boom. In 2026 they are going to have 75 kids in every kindergarten class

I enjoyed Dark. I watched a few episodes and decided I couldn't watch it in the evening and had to switch to mornings. I couldn't sleep afterwards, wondering what might happen next. It is in German and so I had to watch it intently - no second screening or doing a crossword whilst it was on.

BTW, what rude word is W***. I can't work it out. We have one here which rhymes with tank, but it doesn't make sense. Is there a new rude word I should know? [&:]

Yes, please expand our vocabulary. New rude words are always welcome, not matter what the language is.

Oh yes, thank you. That makes more sense.

Dark is a bit like that too. They are all normal looking, normal seeming people. I'm not on commission, I enjoyed it

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (7/27/2021 2:36:15 PM)

There is a PBS documentary about Chosin on Amazon.

Very good. Mostly about 1st Marine Div but there is some about the poor Army unit east of the reservoir.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (7/27/2021 2:54:11 PM)

Why were all those Zekes at Kendari. Well, it's a new cruise stop for the KB

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (7/27/2021 3:04:12 PM)

125 fighters and 289 bombers. A serious force.

Sparrow force was embarking aboard landing craft at Endeh. They will go to Koepang and be covered by Canberra and 2 DD. Many fighters fly in to Koepang.

US/RN carriers in the Timor Sea will fall back toward Darwin.

What are they up to? Obviously, a landing at Bima and probably to smash up Koepang. I doubt they will attack Darwin.

Task Force Faith, named after its commander. The 31st RCT which I believe was part of the US 7th Infantry Division.

You have a Canberra bomber already? Cool! I like how they put the pilot seat and canopy off to the left so the tea kettle could be on the right side of the cockpit. [:D]

Yes that man, Lt. Col Faith, deserved the CMOH, which he received, posthumously

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (7/29/2021 11:33:18 PM)

Wilfred Clouston, despite his somewhat painful first name (by American ears, although it is from the common "William" and "frieden", meaning "free" in high German and thus Saxon) is the supreme Allied ace in the Pacific.

Interesting story. He has overachieved in WWii(e) because he has not been sitting in a Japanese POW camp in but flying the superiority fighter the Kittyhawk III

Actually, "High" German is in the south while "Low" German such as Saxon is in the north. A common vulgar word is spelled with an "i" in High German but with a "u" in Saxon Low German and English. In the High German spelling, it is also the last name of the man who invented contact lenses. He was raised by is uncle with the same last name who also had developed the law of diffusion.

So when someone loses their contact lens and states "I lost that (expletive deleted)ing thing!" they are actually being descriptive.

Right...I meant "Old German"

COVID going up again in SoCal. Lots of infants of unvaccinated moms getting sick. One mom was breastfeeding her 8 week old and got sick. I had her stop breast feeding and dad took over with formula feeds. She was locked in her room. Even with all that the baby got sick too but did well. I'm rooting for herd immunity because I am seriously getting tired of this f****** thing. Thanks again, Winnie Xi Pooh

Thanks for continuing to fight the good fight, Cap!

BTW, did you know I do software QA for our systems at the ABP? [:)]

Haha. I don't have to do the recertification because I am grandfathered in. :-) I went through the oral board exams which were run by professors with sadistic traits. I had to fly all the way to DC to take the thing. They lock you in a room with the inquisitor for about 20 minutes and then they send you into the next room. The first guy says after I give my answer "I'm sure glad you aren't taking care of my grandkids" after I gave a pretty good answer. Maybe he objected to calling in an ortho consultant on the case but it seemed he was purposely being an a-hole. I wanted to tell him to go f*** himself but then it occurred to me....this is a testing situation...maybe he is TRYING to get me to lose it or to rattle me so I fall apart with the next professor..so I just give him a faint smile and a head tilt..and he smiles back a bit...so either I was right and the bastard set me up even after I got the question right or he is gay and he thinks I am flirting with him...and then the timer goes off and we are instructed to go to the next room and as I cross the hall I notice all the other applicants have no blood in their faces and look they are gutshot with bird pellets.

"You sadistic bastards! You did this to every applicant on purpose!"

25% of the applicants were failed after flying to f'ing DC and 3 years of residency and 4 years of medical school

Jeez! I know the written exams now are hard, but I don't think they compare to that experience. [X(]

When I started, my first project was the pilot for MOCA-Peds. By all accounts, those who need to maintain their certification status love it compared to sitting for another written exam every 5 years.

Thanks for persevering and providing the care for our children that too many don't get these days! [&o]
