Oh, look, it's the same highly escorted convoy moving South during the night. It's on. Probably Bima. This is a good example of the mid phase intercept code. Very nice.

Sumatra: LARP Brigade lads take Djambi by air drop in central Sumatra and now we are trying to fly in troops and aviation support lads. They get bombed from Singapore 3 x a day. This is the second time we took Djambi. I am pretty sure this is annoying for the empire. I have learned the trick is to fly in aviation support troops with some AAA to take the brunt of the air attacks

An AKL/AK/LST lost in one night/day trying to sneak in to Mindanao by threading their way around Leyte. Time to give up on that route.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (8/13/2021 2:12:10 PM)

Maybe we can go West across the Atlantic from..Portugal or something?

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (8/13/2021 2:55:02 PM)

************August 8, 9, 10*************

I will have to abstract this because some staff flunky forgot to write everything down.

Intel suspects that two Jap carrier groups have rendezvoused near Sumbawa but we can't seem to clearly spot. Bima gets bombarded by CL/DD groups operating from Makassar. It is pretty obvious Bima is going to get hit. We fly out all the operable A/C. The Japs have reopened Kendari AF. That is bad. It is swarming with Georges and Tojos. We stage P-38's from Koepang to sweep Kendari but we lose about 2:1. Landings begin at Bima. The next night we send a cruiser force to kill the landing ships and it seems to succeed. We catch the at anchor without a SCTF present but the annoying little ninjas haul anchor and sneak away in the dark. The next night they are back but we have another cruiser group inbound from Koepang and we catch them, heavily damaging all the transports without any damage to the USN group. Many troops are disabled and KIA but nothing sinks right away and they slink away to the North again with the landing halted. Even so we only have a weak garrison and they take the place with the loss of 1000+ POW's.

You can, but you have some more threading to do to pass Malaya/Sumatra and then Palawan/Borneo. Sew, now what?

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (8/13/2021 3:07:27 PM)

Meanwhile, the Ceram landing force has assembled and stages 120 nm SE of Boela on the 10th of August with carrier support and large numbers of TBF's at Babo and Kaimana and 100 fighters at Kai-elanden. JJ declines a carrier fight under these circumstances and instead sends in subs..lots of them. They manage to put FOUR torps in USS Nevada and fatally wound one DD. Nevada barely makes Kaimana with her decks awash (92% flooding). We sink 3 Jap subs outright and damage more. The next day landings begin with only moderate shore fire. US 35th RCT stops to look at the flying fish for some reason. We have enough undisrupted troops ashore to be safe from counterattack but perhaps not enough to take the place. IJN DD's inbound NW of Sorong so I call a suspension of the landings and send in shore bombardment TF's. So far, so good..except for the near disaster with Nevada

Well, we made some progress. We now have 5 working porcelain facilities and 4 showers and a big fancy tub with an 81 mm mortar.

The last bathroom is waiting on a tub and I have to find a sink cabinet that will fit and it will then require framing in.

Most of the floors are in. One vanity came with the sink cracked from Wayfair and I gave the delivery guys a 5 star rating

COVID going up again in SoCal. Lots of infants of unvaccinated moms getting sick. One mom was breastfeeding her 8 week old and got sick. I had her stop breast feeding and dad took over with formula feeds. She was locked in her room. Even with all that the baby got sick too but did well. I'm rooting for herd immunity because I am seriously getting tired of this f****** thing. Thanks again, Winnie Xi Pooh

Thanks for continuing to fight the good fight, Cap!

BTW, did you know I do software QA for our systems at the ABP? [:)]

Haha. I don't have to do the recertification because I am grandfathered in. :-) I went through the oral board exams which were run by professors with sadistic traits. I had to fly all the way to DC to take the thing. They lock you in a room with the inquisitor for about 20 minutes and then they send you into the next room. The first guy says after I give my answer "I'm sure glad you aren't taking care of my grandkids" after I gave a pretty good answer. Maybe he objected to calling in an ortho consultant on the case but it seemed he was purposely being an a-hole. I wanted to tell him to go f*** himself but then it occurred to me....this is a testing situation...maybe he is TRYING to get me to lose it or to rattle me so I fall apart with the next professor..so I just give him a faint smile and a head tilt..and he smiles back a bit...so either I was right and the bastard set me up even after I got the question right or he is gay and he thinks I am flirting with him...and then the timer goes off and we are instructed to go to the next room and as I cross the hall I notice all the other applicants have no blood in their faces and look they are gutshot with bird pellets.

"You sadistic bastards! You did this to every applicant on purpose!"

25% of the applicants were failed after flying to f'ing DC and 3 years of residency and 4 years of medical school

This reminds me of Saburi Saki's statement that Japanese flunked out a lot of potentialy good pilots.

Sumatra: British 6 Brigade have hacked their way through jungle around the blocking position North of Medan and Aus 21 Brigade have marched all the way across the island from Sibolga after defeating 3 Jap units there..and now they finally reach Medan. Can they take it before the IJA DIV NW of town can fall back?

******August 12, 1942*****

Sumatra: Massive furball in the air over Medan as Vengeance dive bombing raids and hundreds of medium bomber sorties arrive at the same time over Medan. We lose 12 Vengeance and a fair number of fighters but the LYB's lose many dozens of medium bombers and fighters. It's about a 3:1 kill ration in our favor.

Then the heavy bombers from Burma arrive at 4000 ft and do a goodly amount of damage. The Aussies and Brits attack but sadly a full IJA division has arrived in the nick of time from the South and they suffer heavy disablement. Even worse, the arrival of IJA division from the SE turns the hexside to the SW red and we are trapped.
