Reminds me of various dog flea treatment and prevention discussions I've had with relatives over the years. They'd rather take advise from some pimply-faced puke working at the local pet store. [8|]

Could you elaborate - what diseases do dog fleas get that people want to treat?

Isn't there some pimply faced puke working at the local pet store that you'd rather ask? [:'(]

Payback. Ouch. Still, wildly inflated. That is twice the number of B-26's at Brisbane.

Night Naval bombardment of Brisbane at 96,160 - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
B-26 Marauder: 38 damaged
B-26 Marauder: 1 destroyed on ground
P-39D Airacobra: 8 damaged
P-39D Airacobra: 1 destroyed on ground
P-40E Warhawk: 11 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed on ground
A-24 Banshee: 1 damaged
Hudson I: 5 damaged
Hudson I: 1 destroyed on ground
SBD-3 Dauntless: 3 damaged

21 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.

Japanese Ships
CA Nachi
CA Haguro
CA Myoko, Shell hits 2
CL Yura
CL Nagara
DD Yamagumo
DD Yukikaze

Allied ground losses:
172 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 8 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 29 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 6 disabled
Vehicles lost 2 (1 destroyed, 1 disabled)

Airbase hits 9
Airbase supply hits 5
Runway hits 48

The combat report doesn't describe it well - "38 B-26s damaged" actually means 38 bits of damage (holes) on some B-26 aircraft.

Those aren't pimples, those are mosquito bites that caused some exotic tropical disease!

Here is what they have at La Foa. The adjusted combat strength is shockingly low. Probably the 4th Div is resting.
A USN DD was sent via circuitous route toward La Foa. Either she did not make it or JJ sent their transports packing.

Ground combat at La Foa (114,159)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 1815 troops, 21 guns, 2 vehicles, Assault Value = 383

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 0

Japanese adjusted assault: 23

Allied adjusted defense: 1

Japanese assault odds: 23 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE La Foa !!!

Combat modifiers
Attacker: shock(+)

Assaulting units:
4th Division
Maizuru 2nd SNLF
21st Air Flotilla
24th Special Base Force
25th JNAF AF Unit

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (4/14/2015 2:38:48 PM)

<face palm> It's the Lord Howe Gambit...and it might actually work!

Ground combat at Lord Howe Island (100,169)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 4024 troops, 29 guns, 2 vehicles, Assault Value = 60

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 0

Japanese adjusted assault: 56

Allied adjusted defense: 1

Japanese assault odds: 56 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Lord Howe Island !!!

Combat modifiers
Attacker: shock(+)

Assaulting units:
Maizuru 1st SNLF

***********Bar, Royal Hawaiian************

FAM: That was a stirring defense by USS Hulbert. What do you guys think about a unit citation?

Odd rooking ferrow in fresh Hawaiian shirt: Who accept unit citation? Hahahaha.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (4/17/2015 6:24:12 PM)

******Booth at Royal Hawaiian, normally this might be described as a "romantic booth" but that would be silly*****

FAM:..now wait, what do you mean "not enough interest"? It's a world war. Hundreds or perhaps thousands of people are being killed
daily, and no small number of them in the South Pacific recently, I might add.

Young enthusiastic US Army sergeant in impossibly well pressed uniform: No sir, not the war. As you say, wars have a habit of attracting
attention. I mean the after action report.

FAM: What the Hell is that? And why should I care.

Young enthusiastic US Army sergeant in impossibly well pressed uniform: Several reasons sir. Branding..co-marketing opportunities...product placement revenue..
merchandising.

FAM: Merchandising?

Young enthusiastic US Army sergeant in impossibly well pressed uniform: Sure..CentPac coffee mugs..branded 40 mm shell casings..salted sea urchin roe..endless really

FAM: Well, what do you suggest, more nudity?

Young enthusiastic US Army sergeant in impossibly well pressed uniform: Oh, heavens no, that's so 30's. I'm talking about acquiring readers with a modest expenditure.

FAM: Wait a minute, do you mean money?

Young enthusiastic US Army sergeant in impossibly well pressed uniform: I would say "capital" sir, but yes. Everyone's doing it. Even in Presidential campaigns.

FAM: What? You don't mean FDR do you?

Young enthusiastic US Army sergeant in impossibly well pressed uniform: <makes "quiet" signal with two fingers near lips>

If y'all are able to behave yourselves here is a political science quiz:

Which current US presidential candidate actually made a contract with M&M Enterprises, Political Consulting Division and purchased half of that candidates Facebook followers? [:)]

Cap Mandrake -> RE: At dawn we slept.....in the cab on the way back from Olongapo (4/18/2015 3:00:41 PM)

Another interesting thing. The two games are about a month apart with a very similar focus of attack in Oz and the South Pacific.

I think there is a cross-pollination of strategies going on. JJ bombards Brisbane in WWII(e) and only loses one ship so Mandrake-san does same thing in WWII(d). They lose Hayashio, we lose
Oshio. [:)]

Mandrake-san try Rord Howe Gambit in WWII(d) and it-ah not rearry work but the Japs pull it off in WWII(e).

This brings up a quite interesting meta-game possibility. Suppose you purposely come up with a really crappy plan in one war to try to get the enemy in the OTHER war to copy it. [:D]

NOW you are thinking like a great strategist! [:D][:D]
The trick is to make it believable so you will have to use e-mail to inflate successes and minimize losses in the crappy plan!

On the preceding question -- Marco Rubio? Sounds like something a politician with a niche market position might do to broaden his base.

NONSENSE! The carrier sortie into the Bismarck Sea easily eclipses that.

. Suppose you purposely come up with a really crappy plan in one war to try to get the enemy in the OTHER war to copy it. [:D]D

Two problems.
1) You've given away the meta game plan about plans
2) They can just as easily copy your plans that work. Of course if you do find a plan that works you can then prepare to counter it in the other war. Fortunately this shouldnt be a problem very often[;)]

You know, I might be using two IP numbers to post as you as part of a mind-boggling multi-year meta-game.
In fact, you might not be real. How does it feel to be a cover story, eh?

I'm really enjoying that the two wars are close in timeline and focus. This AAR gives me a yardstick to check our performance against in the other game. Plus it means I've got somewhere to get a regular dose of Mandrake San and Sprior humor.
