Yak-152 was conducted the maiden flight yesterday at Irkutsk Aviation Plant.

The Yakovlev Yak-152 trainer aircraft completed its maiden flight on 29 September, the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has announced.

Russia's newest basic trainer aircraft, the Yak-152 is expected to replace the Russian Aerospace Forces' ageing fleet of Yak-52 trainers.

According to UAC the first flight was conducted at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant, where the aircraft is being built. Irkut revealed in June that it had a production order for 150 examples of the aircraft.

The Yak-152 has been under development in various forms for at least 15 years, partly in co-operation with China (as the L-7), and is a derivative of the Yak-54 acrobatic aircraft.

Originally selected to the replace the Yak-52 in 2001, progress on the aircraft stalled until 2014 when a contract was awarded to Irkut Corporation to complete its development. The aircraft had been due to make its maiden flight in 2015 and enter service in November 2016, although this timeline quickly slipped.

Hard-kill anti-torpedo defensive system apparently full deployed in USS George H Bush (and apparently the sensors and warning elements lacking the hard-kill elements in other five carriers, not very clear the article on this point):

Thoughts in future H-20 Chinese stealth bomber:

thewood1 -> RE: Naval and Defense News (10/1/2016 8:59:53 PM)

I would think the continued struggles with high-thrust engines would significantly hamper a 2018 flight. Unless it like the J-20 with under-powered engines

Hongjian -> RE: Naval and Defense News (10/2/2016 12:55:35 AM)

On the contrary IMHO. Short-term, four WS-20 or even WS-18/D-30KP would be enough for a subsonic flying wing bomber. Remember; the B-2 Spirit is powered by four F-118 engines with "mere" 90kn thrust.

High T/W ratio is desirable, but not really important for a subsonic bomber.

thewood1 -> RE: Naval and Defense News (10/2/2016 1:41:27 AM)

Yeah, but I would think the short service life would be a huge factor in a large strategic bomber.

Hongjian -> RE: Naval and Defense News (10/2/2016 2:29:14 AM)

On topic of bombers... Rumors indicate that the development of the airborne launched ASBM has been completed. Let's see if we get pictorial confirmation of it after Zhuhai Airshow.

[image]http://i68.tinypic.com/m12f5.jpg[/image]

Technology would be plausible, after all, China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation offered a light weight plane-launched space rocket since the early 2000s...

reading about this system always interesting why it is so hard to pronounce :
"antitorpedo system "Tripwire" , why for journalists it is nameless "anti-torpedo defensive system"?
http://www.apl.washington.edu/departments/eis/projects/tripwire/summary.html

funny that "Tripwire" have more range than M-15 anti torpedo from "Paket" (range something like MTT torpedo from "Paket") but warhead only 12kg vs 80kg on M-15 (so, fast shortrange underwater missile with very high chances of enemy torpedo destruction vs small "normal" torpedo with small warhead and long range) so zone of enemy torpedo destruction is not very big for "Tripwire" warhead
and with any deviation from ideal course, well, it will miss target

also Fluorine and Lithium as fuel pair ,really, Im sure US Navy sailors will love operate this ...

still, it is small (170x2670 mm , 90kg) long range ATT system

I don't see the point an air-launched ASBM: It seems less flexible to me than the existing DF-21D and DF-26.

Hongjian -> RE: Naval and Defense News (10/2/2016 11:56:16 AM)

Looks like the YJ-8/C-80X AShM scored its first actual combat kill.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTNeEYlO3Iw

quote:

Yemeni forces have targeted and destroyed an Emirati military vessel in a rocket attack near the Red Sea port city of Mokha, al-Masirah TV says. The C-802 is the export upgraded version of the Chinese anti-ship missile YJ-8 (Chinese: 鹰击-8, literally "Eagle Strike"; NATO reporting name: CSS-N-8 Saccade).

The ship is a wave-piercing, aluminum-hulled, commercial catamaran with military enhancements, such as a helicopter flight deck, vehicle deck, small boat and unmanned vehicle launch and recovery capability, and a communications suite. While from the front the vessel looks like a trimaran, the center hull does not rest in the water and is not used for buoyancy. Propulsion is provided by directional water jets, so the ship does not have propellers or a rudder for steering, and can maneuver in twelve feet of water.

As of July 2015 the vessel is reported to be operated by the UAE's National Marine Dredging Company. The United Arab Emirates are part of the ongoing Saudi-led War in Yemen.

Holy heck, one shot and the whole aluminum hull set ablaze like a powder keg.

But what missile is it, to be exact? C-802 should be YJ-82 (NATO Saccade), while YJ-8 is C-801 (NATO Sardine).

To use it as an range extender -- air launch from higher altitude could gain extra range, as well as to be launched outside the mainland.

But H-6 (K or not) have only 10 tons of maximum loadout weight, DF-2X is definitely too heavy for it.

thewood1 -> RE: Naval and Defense News (10/2/2016 3:01:20 PM)

Plus there are only about 60 H-6s. I keep seeing all the claims for large ASM being fired from H-6s. But they are pretty limited in numbers.

Hongjian -> RE: Naval and Defense News (10/2/2016 4:31:06 PM)

ALBM could be based on the lighter DF16, as they can save a rocket stage when launched from 10km altitude.

But let's wait till there is new evidence.

Broncepulido -> RE: Naval and Defense News (10/2/2016 6:50:43 PM)

Well, after the ex HSV-2 Swift demise (see video), we can reckon on the same impact in a Independence-class LCS ... (yes, I know Independence displacement is some 2607 tn and Swift only some 940, but after the very fast extending fire is indifferent).

hellfish6 -> RE: Naval and Defense News (10/2/2016 7:50:17 PM)

Yeah, that's crazy. I can't believe it isn't all over the news.

thewood1 -> RE: Naval and Defense News (10/5/2016 7:35:28 PM)

I suspect it might have been an ATGM. I think it was pretty close to sure and seems relatively easy to get one as a rebel.

In the video one could see the seperating booster-stage. I do think it is an AShM.

Trimarans are hard to fully sink, unlike conventional ships. But the internal damage and the burnt aluminium hull should be severe enough to put it out of commission for forseeable time.

Dysta -> RE: Naval and Defense News (10/5/2016 11:59:16 PM)

It looks horribly mangled, the missile itself already done the job as "anti-ship". Without steel hull it's only matter of time being scrapped even it's still floating.

Germany is ordering 4-6 C-130J to replace the Transall in 2021 mostly for special operations where the A400M is to big. The planes will be stationed in France.

All ASST A3 Tornados of the Bundeswehr are currently grounded because a part has been recalled. That includes the 6 planes stationed in Turkey.

Russia moving nuclear-capable missiles into Kaliningrad, says Estonia
(Source: The Guardian)

On Thursday, a Russian military An-72 aircraft penetrated Estonian airspace over the island of Vaindloo without permission and spent about minute and a half in the country’s airspace.

The aircraft transponder was switched on, but no flight plan was submitted and the aircraft did not respond to radio contact with the Estonian air movement service.

The Estonian foreign ministry on Friday summoned the Russian ambassador to Estonia to hand him a protest note.

Finland said two similar planes had passed over its territory as it prepared to sign a defence pact with the US.

Pantsir-SM radar mast for Russian Navy , MRK pr.22800 and other ships:
[image]http://mk.tula.ru/upload/iblock/9a6/_oboronka-6.jpg[/image]

"Developed in the framework of the"Pantsir-SM". It is a multifunctional station targeting, which allows almost double the range .In addition, it is radar module with active phased array(AESA).", - Khomyakov said.

He recalled that the existing firing range for complex "Pantsir-S1" is about 20 kilometers , and the new version will increase the range up to 40 kilometers.

With this radar new "Pantsir" will be able to detect targets at a distance of 75 kilometers (compared to 40 kilometers from the current version), added Khomyakov.
http://tass.ru/armiya-i-opk/3682156 in russian

Pantsir-SM use new missile with :210mm diametr booster (vs 170mm on 57E6(AKA 95Ya6)) , 40km max range 35 km max height of target(20 km and 15 km for 57E6 ), and 1880m/s max speed (vs 1300m/s for 57E6 missile)
It is pre-production data so, how this will be in reality we will see.

Chinese navy to receive first sailing training ship 'Polang'

A formation ceremony for a new navy fleet was held in Guangzhou, Guangdong province on Sept. 26. Within the new fleet is China's first sailing training ship, "Polang."
The fleet is responsible for maintaining naval culture, instructing naval officers on sailing and carrying out international military exchanges. The ship is numbered “86,” and its name, “Polang,” means to brave the wind and have high ambitions. The ship is 85 meters long, 11 meters wide, with 1,200 tons of standard displacement. It is capable of accommodating 50 naval students at a time. The construction of Polang began in May 2016, and was carried out by the Guangzhou Shipyard International Company. The ship will be completed in 18 months, and will set sail by the end of 2017. At present, Polang's future staff has already been selected.

The ship will be used mainly by naval academy students to conduct trainings in mast climbing, sailing, navigation and more. Hou Zhixin, the first political commissar of Polang, emphasized that the classic type of training Polang facilitates is essential and irreplaceable for naval students.

the CDF blog provides some more information:

http://china-defense.blogspot.com/2016/10/the-plan-will-get-two-new-training-ships.html

quote:

The PLAN will get two new training ships.

The first one is the "Break Waves", PLAN's first ever sail-training-ship with three masted square rigger, similar that of RNOV Shabab Oman.

Construction started May this year in Guangzhou and expected to launch second half of 2017. The "Break Waves" will bear the pennant number of "86" and serve under the Dalian Naval Academy.

Personally, I prefer to see a Zheng He treasure ship replica in service with the PLAN over a more "Western" design. China's maritime tradition is just as proud as the next guy, but hey that's just me.

Overall: 85 m
Beam: 11 m
Speed: 18 kn
Displacement: 1200 t
Midshipmen: 50

Dysta -> RE: Naval and Defense News (10/9/2016 3:23:03 AM)

It will serve little to none of purpose on CMANO, I'm afraid. What kind of scenario would be when a training ship is involved?

Even it can be included, then what about the USS Constitution?

Testing of the truck mounted SA-2 76mm Anti-Aircraft gun system.

The muzzle device looks like those on the PGZ-07 35mm SPAAG, possibly indicating AHEAD airburst capability.

http://www.china-arms.com/2015/09/sa2-76mm-self-propelled-antiaircraft-gun-of-china-unveiled/

This gun system is based on the same naval gun as the PJ-26/AK-176 widely used on China's warships.

As of now, it is offered for export. Whether the PLA will adopt it or not is unknow.
