Well, I guess you should be more selective as to what you bomb into scrap metal ...... Though surprisingly, I really haven't been hampered with lack of rail transport..... thankfully

I may have found and fixed an issue with supply. We'll see. Meanwhile the push east continues.

Yeah that's a good point.

October 31st, Patton tries to break through then line with support on the north flank by the Canadians. 1FF Corps lands in La Rochelle to relieve units of the US 1st Army and push to the south. British in the north steadily push the Germans ahead of them. Sorted out some supply.

Love seeing all those little R banners. :-)

ultradave -> RE: Ultradave(WA) vs scout1(Ger), '44 D-Day Start, Turn 3, June 13 (7/12/2015 12:29:28 AM)

British push toward Calais, US 3rd Army continues to push forward and 1st Army pushes the Germans back against the Swiss border. Second picture is in Italy which has been slow going, but I've never made a second invasion there, just pushing north along the east coast and occasionally hammering the line. Making progress on the east coast of Italy and just made a break in the middle with the New Zealanders.

1st week of November, the push continues. Not much activity by the British in the north. Monty is resting the troops :-) Patton continues to try to bull his way through the middle, with nice help from the Canadian 1st Army.

Well, was going to post a screenshot with current positions in France but it seems to have not made it to my desktop.

scout1 -> RE: Ultradave(WA) vs scout1(Ger), '44 D-Day Start, Turn 3, June 13 (7/15/2015 1:24:52 AM)

The Wehrmacht continues its staged withdraw to the West Wall where the Allies shall throw themselves on the Germanic bastions and be smithied

ultradave -> RE: Ultradave(WA) vs scout1(Ger), '44 D-Day Start, Turn 3, June 13 (7/15/2015 11:22:01 PM)

Germans are bending but not breaking. Almost to the border of Belgium in the north, and ejected the Germans from Nancy in the south but couldn't move in and exploit. In Italy, pushing up the east coast and also a pushing up the coast road near Rome. RR repair is slowly catching up.

Oh Oh .........

ultradave -> RE: Ultradave(WA) vs scout1(Ger), '44 D-Day Start, Turn 3, June 13 (7/16/2015 3:31:01 PM)

A quieter week with some bad weather hampering operations, however, the British accept the German surrender of Calais, and Patton's 3rd Army forces its way into Nancy in the south. The French drive up to the outskirts of Bordeaux and demand surrender :-) while the Big Red One and the 30th infantry division slowly liberate the south of France.

Joel Billings -> RE: Ultradave(WA) vs scout1(Ger), '44 D-Day Start, Turn 3, June 13 (7/16/2015 5:47:43 PM)

I'm having a hard time finding your manual rail repair units on the map. Do you have them in France, and if so, have they been expanding the rails east? Once they get east, it's also important to repair redundant rails to the rear ports (especially before Antwerp is active). Don't forget to hook up the rails from Marseille as soon as you can as that will give you another source of freight. Also, just curious, but where are the French forces?

Joel Billings -> RE: Ultradave(WA) vs scout1(Ger), '44 D-Day Start, Turn 3, June 13 (7/16/2015 6:28:21 PM)

Was looking at your game for the FOW issue, and I found that the Allied player is not using his rail group units for manual repairs (like the one sitting in St. Malo, they have XXX corps markings). This is like fighting in France with one hand tied behind your back. Are you not aware of how these units work? Although less important than in WitE, they are still very important. Each one can often repair 5-8 hexes per turn and the Allies have 6 of them. From page 119 of the manual:

14.2.7.2. Manual Rail Line Repair
Players may also repair several hexes of rail line per
turn, usually in the same section of rail line hexes,
by manually using rail repair HQ units. Players must
manually move rail repair HQ units and designate
which hexes they will be repairing during a turn. In
order for an rail repair HQ unit to use its special ability
to repair rail hexes, the player must manually move
the unit into a hex that is suitable for repair, and then
select the RRC (Rail Repair Cost) text that will appear
on the rail repair HQ unit in the unit bar if the unit has
enough MPs to perform the repair. Selecting the RRC
will set the damage of the hex to one percent, and this
last point of damage will automatically be repaired
during the player’s next logistics phase. Designating
a hex to be repaired expends movement points. The
number next to the RRC indicates the MP cost to the
rail repair HQ unit to repair the current hex. If the rail
repair HQ unit is not in a location that it can conduct
a rail repair operation, the RRC number will display a
‘-‘ instead.

BTW, I should add that I've really been enjoying reading your AAR. In a game this big, it's easy to miss things.

scout1 -> RE: Ultradave(WA) vs scout1(Ger), '44 D-Day Start, Turn 3, June 13 (7/16/2015 10:35:48 PM)

OK fine ... Joel .....

Help the Army/Airborne puke ..... us Navy types are used going on our own ......

I will Smyth him anyways .......... [:'(]

Thanks Joel. No, something I missed. I'll get right on it.

scout1 -> RE: Ultradave(WA) vs scout1(Ger), '44 D-Day Start, Turn 3, June 13 (7/17/2015 11:50:22 PM)

The lines continues to bend but not break ..... Meanwhile, German armor groups behind the lines waiting to be released

Didn't get a screen shot, but the British liberate Dunkirk, Rome is 2/3 surrounded and being reduced, and a couple of breaks in the line in Italy.

scout1 -> RE: Ultradave(WA) vs scout1(Ger), '44 D-Day Start, Turn 3, June 13 (7/19/2015 11:53:03 PM)

Rome isn't all that its cracked up to be ...... Real estate is getting expensive, cost of living is high ...... time for the Allies to do what they always do ..... pay ALL the bills ...... We're a poor country and can't carry them forever

ultradave -> RE: Ultradave(WA) vs scout1(Ger), '44 D-Day Start, Turn 3, June 13 (7/20/2015 12:50:07 AM)

Yeah? Good. Don't make me bomb it into rubble. Just leave it for me. You're almost surrounded anyway.

ultradave -> RE: Ultradave(WA) vs scout1(Ger), '44 D-Day Start, Turn 3, June 13 (7/20/2015 1:31:29 PM)

Turn 32, Jan 2, 1945. British push to the Belgian border, Rome falls and the German line in Italy pulls back, and Patton's 3rd Army continues to try to bull its way through the German lines.

Current situation on the Western Front: (from north to south on the front British 2d Army, Cdn 1st Army (with Polish Armor), US 3rd Army, US 1st Army. 1st FF Corp surrounding Bourdeaux, just at the bottom left. Other FF off the picture.

ultradave -> RE: Ultradave(WA) vs scout1(Ger), '44 D-Day Start, Turn 3, June 13 (7/21/2015 12:50:29 AM)

Metz is captured and the 3rd Army edges into Luxembourg. In the north, the British 2d Army takes the port of Ostend. In the south, the US 1st Army rolls up to the banks of the Rhine. Germans fall back to a new defensive line in Italy. First picture shows the front in France, and the second shows Italy as of Jan 9th, 1945.

And Italy, where the Allies are now able to enjoy some very nice Orvietto wine, having been careful to spare the monastery there:

your on the Rhine as the Wehrmacht opted to draw the line here ..... we basically retreated as fast as you could advance ......
