I cannot get NF3 to work, it says the DB file is missing. What can I do to fix this?

From the release notes of the community scenario pack:
quote:

Some of the above scenarios use the most recent version (v440) of the Command databases, which are included with the v1.09 RC11 (B746) update. We therefore recommend downloading and applying this update before using the new scenarios. Alternatively, players can hold for the official release of the v1.09 update which is approaching fast.

pchandler43, when you get through NF3 I'd love to hear your impressions. I believe someone else on the forums here described it as "epic."

ultradave -> RE: Northern Fury (10/22/2015 7:31:05 PM)

Thanks for the AAR's. I've played X-Ray station a few times never successfully but I think it's a great scenario. Going to dust it off again.

I started though, going through these in order and was quickly overwhelmed by H-Hour. Makes me appreciate the success you had. My submarine had the same success as yours, and my eastern patrol boats took out the Osa's before being trampled by Sunburn missiles from the outer missile boats. I looked at your comment about that, and tried to move my patrol boats back for cover, however the Sunburns arrived anyway. At that point the only thing to do was launch everything at the Osa's so that they didn't die in vain.

My problem is that I'm not good enough with air operations. The myriad of events and contacts going on in the air and the speed that they came did me in. Before going farther than X-Ray Station I need to find some good air scenarios that aren't too complex to gain some skills and then come back.

BTW, those two are the only AARs I've read so far to avoid spoilers. I plan to revisit them after giving each scenario in the list a go.

Also BTW - I was an "Airborne Gunner"

OK - this is getting weird [:D]

I might suggest some of Tomcat's scenarios such as Red Flag and DCA. They are good to help hone your skills on A2A.

Also, you may want to just take your lumps and move on. The first few scenarios are tough - very tough. I take my hat off to AR and some of the guys who do much better than I did with these ones - and I built them!![&o]

If you accept the scenarios as part of a story-line a defeat is easier to take - believe me it gets better [8D]. As the Soviets expand to the end of their tether, and NATO starts to react to the situation, resources and situations improve. Scenario 8 is really the turning point, things don't get easy after that, but they get manageable. Building Scenario 9.5 now and it is the first real counter attack, scenario 10 is going to be fun - but busy. Scenario 11 and beyond will be much more weighted towards NATO.

Also they are not all A2A, there is a bit of a mix in most.

Enjoy,

B

ultradave -> RE: Northern Fury (10/22/2015 10:47:01 PM)

Thanks. I'll look into those.

I liked the scenario by the way. It's obvious a lot of work went into it for all the actions and messages that arrive. It was just a bit like standing under a waterfall trying to catch all the water with a beach pail. :-)

Airborne Rifles -> RE: Northern Fury (10/23/2015 12:30:16 AM)

Greetings ultradave! Always great to meet another paratrooper. When were you at Bragg?

Winning in the A2A battle in H-Hour definitely took some minute micromanaging on my part to outsmart the AI. Gunner98 has done an amazing job putting the pressure on and if you just set up missions and allow the fighters to go AI v. AI you will get worn down (much more realistic than the results I got). A Cold and Lonely Place was easier (being smaller), but still took some micromanaging to outmaneuver the AI. I definitely recommend playing the scenarios in order. As Gunner said, you are supposed to get pushed out of north Norway, the fun is really managing your scarce resources to stem the tide until the cavalry can get there.

ultradave -> RE: Northern Fury (10/23/2015 12:36:25 AM)

I was at Bragg from 79-84. Started in A/1-320 FA (I was a FIST Chief there), then B/2-321 FA (Fire Direction Officer - loved that job), and then 2-321 FA staff (Asst S-3). How about you?

Airborne Rifles -> RE: Northern Fury (10/23/2015 10:53:19 AM)

I was there from 2007-2010 in B/D/HHC of 1-325 AIR as a platoon leader, company XO, and battalion logistics officer. Loved my time there, especially the people I served with.

ultradave -> RE: Northern Fury (10/23/2015 12:20:01 PM)

Hey, cool. When I was a FIST Chief it was for C/1-325 !!

And I agree with your comment about the people. I'm still in touch with a couple friends I served with, and am a member of the 82d Abn Association still. The Hartford CT chapter is very active. (although I now live in NC and there isn't a nearby chapter - well there's Bragg I guess).

Airborne Rifles -> RE: Northern Fury (10/26/2015 12:40:20 AM)

Airborne Rifles -> RE: Northern Fury (12/11/2015 11:28:36 AM)

Yeah, whenever I start feeling good about how I'm doing, I look up at the time stamp and realize I'm only an hour in, and my missile stocks are running low...
