Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/25/2017 11:19:42 AM)

Over PM, I trade 20 Tojo IIc and A6M5c for 15 Hurricanes, Kittyhawks and Airacobras. I was hoping for at least 1-1...but his pilots were probably much better than mine.

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/25/2017 5:40:11 PM)

Allies land in a no base hex, accidental click I guess.

Depending what is in this CVE task force, I might hit it with everything I have. I am poised and ready.

However they might turn around, given the non-dot base landing.

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/25/2017 5:46:12 PM)

More developments in Burma...

If I risk an attack on those tanks...they might either get reinforced with the doomstack, or perhaps the tanks will simply move away.

Instead I think ground strafing might be in order...not sure how that will work if the Allies LRCAP the base, but I guess I will find out.

Three weeks away from having the Frank R.[:)]

Frank A will be with us the entire game, as some squadrons never upgrade from it...including the wonderful 200th Sentai of 97 planes...but most of the current squadrons do upgrade to the Frank R.

I am thinking of putting a fair bit of the r&d factories into the Ki94II.

Lokasenna -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/25/2017 7:29:44 PM)

He should be moving SW from there, not NE. Those bases are not strategically important given the rest of the map shown.

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/27/2017 11:39:36 AM)

Oct 13, 1943

A mistake here, as only one more tank unit arrives in Magwe...and I missed an opportunity to destroy them both.[:(]

Nicks do a decent job in making the TD unit combat ineffective for a while...

Allies bomb SE of Katha heavily...to minimal effect.

Here is the little raid I tried to accomplish the other day...

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/28/2017 3:02:22 PM)

I think I am going to attack at Magwe...I have lots of tanks and twice the number of troops and at least two of his units here are less than 100% thanks to bombing. He probably has two divisions and two tanks (one is the 18th British Division)...perhaps a bombardment first...no reason to be hasty.

October 15, 1943

Caution is thrown to the winds, and a deliberate attack is ordered at Magwe...

The Japanese airforce bombs during the day...most at 10k above the lions share of the flak, but some lower to absorb ammunition stocks and sow confusion.

Over 120 2E bombers, 100 Nicks...the results are decent...

A little over 350 fighters, Franks and Oscars patrol the skies....

and then the attack begins by the tank heavy Japanese forces....is it enough?

My goodness, there are far more Allied forces their than hoped for!!!![:(]

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/30/2017 6:15:14 PM)

The roar of tanks, the confusion of battles as the Japanese forces sally forth from their forts, their bunkers, a breakthru happens, and the tanks exploit...and the killing begins in earnest.[sm=00000036.gif]

The British, the Commonwealth, the Allies abandon their equipment in fear and run for their lives back to the jungle and the mosquitoes and malaria.

My hunch here is there is a lot of battle victory inflation here in the losses reported.

Japanese unit destroyed at Magwe. 2 PP to recall. The Allies lose an American TD unit.

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/30/2017 8:52:53 PM)

Timing was critical here...catching the Allied forces in movement mode of some type....but it was a narrow victory (roughly only 50 AV over the 2-1 ratio needed).

Whey weren't the Allied troops better prepared on their objective. One can only guess that they are marching around without a goal other than exploitation. Perhaps they were really prepped for Prome?

Why are the Allied troops inexperienced? They have been fighting in India for a long time...the 1st and 2nd Tank Divisions are complete rebuilds from the attack on Hollywood.

13 planes were lost on the day, half of them here (2 nicks and a few 2E bombers)...

Lokasenna -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/30/2017 8:57:24 PM)

Remember that the modifiers you see in the combat report were applied to 1+ unit.

It's entirely possible that only Gardner's Horse suffered the experience(-), for example, while the rest had great experience.

As I mentioned before, I don't know why he went up that way. There's nothing for him there, except death apparently. If he pushed SW, you were not in a position to do anything useful about it and your units at Magwe/Mandalay become overextended.

Yes, you could follow him out onto the plains and try to cut him off from the rear, but if he's paying attention he bombs the crap out of you with 4E's while you do so and renders your units ineffective, so it's a win-win for him. Instead, he went NE. Wonder what he was trying to do.

Right, again.[8|]

Yes, most likely one of the armored units...as I believe I my Nicks took out a lot of tanks in them as they wandered on the plains. If the battle reports are to be believed.

Yep, to meander in clear terrain, away from an airfield with 350 Franks Oscars and Tojo, would be simple suicide. Bombed to death, and my best fighters at a clear disadvantage.

The Allies have shown an unwillingness to fly into heavy CAP...one of the reasons why the AA is on the light side now.

I fear night air raids now....

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/30/2017 9:56:22 PM)

This is the largest group of Nicks attacking, and here I used them as level bombers (a skill they don't excel at). They did quite well, but look at the delta of the incoming altitude and bombing altitude. I don't recall ever seeing it that big before.

So, the question is now...will the Allies use their overwhelming fighter presence to LRCAP the beaten troops...or will he let me continue bombing them?

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/31/2017 4:14:43 PM)

Ground combat yields a surprising attack on Katha...the Allies simply aren't coordinating ground attacks with his air force lately as there were no bombing runs prior.

In other ground combat, the Allies reinforce a day or two ago at Kodiak and attack today getting a 1-10 result.[:)] And down in Rabaul a full regiment arrives to bolster the defense plus more mountain guns to counter the American artillery bombardments...and they cut the damage down by 2/3rds. And for good measure two IJN Heavy Cruisers bombarded the Americans for light damage...but every little bit counts.

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/31/2017 4:17:37 PM)

The Nicks flew by mistake into battered Allied troops retreating from Magwe, but didn't suffer too much.

Overall, a banner day...but it won't last.[;)]
