Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/31/2017 5:44:28 PM)

Jocke has let me know that the troops at Katha were supposed to cross the river and shock there not in Katha.

My guess is he won't like the results from that, but it is what he wants to do.

I suspect the game might be on hold for a bit as Jocke comes to grip with it or tries to fix it.

I am not sure how this is possible if they were in move mode.

Nice work with the Franks!

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/31/2017 5:54:29 PM)

Thanks Andav, feel like I am doing fairly well this past month or so....I think the Allies are pushing forward too aggressively for the date. If he was a few months earlier he would really have caught me...for example if he skipped Pearl and used those forces in Rabaul area, or SRA area or amphibiously in Burma area.

I had to re-run the turn, and it is identical.

My guess is his LRP brigade that shocked into Katha did not have enough AV to create ownership of the hex-side from a contested hex into a contested hex. Not enough AV to create the bridgehead.

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/31/2017 7:30:08 PM)

Sent Jocke last two turns plus a finished turn with no orders.

He then went back and gave a partially done turn, but took his troops off FOLLOW. Why in the world did he use that command?[:(]

Very different turn. My sweep doesn't fly, hardly bomb the Indian division. Allied bombers fly southwest of Katha and his infantry shocks across my 400+ AV is knocked down to 100, he suffers no disruption from the river crossing and has 100% assault value, bad roll, and Allies get a 5-1 drubbing the Japanese and forcing a retreat. The Allied bombard at Rabaul does triple damage.

Not happy, but I guess I am going to have to eat it.[:(] The turn was poorer, in every respect even down to repairing plane factories. Sigh.

Sporting of you, mate! [sm=happy0065.gif]

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (5/31/2017 10:19:24 PM)

So I sent Jocke back the full turn with no Japanese orders so he can check the results from the partial turn, and I then I asked him to finish the turn to the best of his ability. He can interpret that anyway he wants...but, we will get the game back on track.

Really amazing to see how the turn is so completely different...from weather, to combat, to r&d repair. Went from a solidly good Japanese turn to a very, very poor turn.

But, on the other hand, there is the chance after Jocke finishes his turn, we get another totally different result too. So who really knows, and I really doubt one day with horrendously change the war. Probably have to leave Burma sooner...

such is war.[;)]

Will have to see if it screws up tracker with lots of db errors.[&:]

You will have some incongruities...

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (6/1/2017 2:38:26 AM)

It will be two days before I figure it out...how messed up tracker will be.

It will be odd seeing plane r&d factories decreasing/increasing.[:D]

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (6/1/2017 4:34:30 PM)

October 16th, 1943 (take 2)

This time normal bombardment at Rabaul by two heavy cruisers (this has been the most stable result of the three turns run)...

Then over in Burma severe storms are south west of Katha and Allied bombers don't fly...

and the Frank sweep doesn't fly....

Three disjointed air attacks on the Indian division by Helens...

at Kodiak the Allies attack but get a 1-27 result....

at Rabaul the Allied bombardment is back down to 30 men disrupted rather than 120...

and the shock attack sees disruption among the Allied troops breaking out...and a much better roll, two Commonwealth AA units left behind at Katha...hit by a bombardment and then wiped out by attrition.

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (6/1/2017 6:17:15 PM)

It has probably been a week or more that the Allies have had ships at Rabaul...and he has attacked twice, and bombarded every day. In addition, Helens have bombed the troops for the last three days, causing no real damage but at least eating some supply.

I have flown Rufes in hex and not intercepted any transports.

My question is how much longer can he last here before he runs low on supply...do you think he dropped 20 or 30K with the initial invasion? Since he has no base would it be subject to spoilage?

I really want to try and get my timing right here.

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (6/1/2017 6:21:01 PM)

Here are the largest AV Free troops that Japan has. You can really see that there is no cadre of high experience troops and many of the divisions are still rebuilding.

This will most likely have dire consequences for the defense of Empire.

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (6/1/2017 6:40:01 PM)

I have never overstacked an island like this before defensively. Are my troops really more vulnerable to shore & air bombardments? Will their disruption skyrocket on the early phases of a landing?

I need mines here..and now that Rabaul is stocked...I will be sending in a lot.

50% is not terribly high - for an invading force. For a defending force the main problem will be increased supply consumption because of the potentially long time the over stacking condition will exist. If 1) that is a problem and 2) you are confident of having adequate warning, perhaps you can place some units in Rest mode to reduce supply consumption, although I do not know how much supply that actually saves.

Are my troops really more vulnerable to shore & air bombardments?
I don't recall that being an effect of LCU over stacking. Maybe it is??

Will their disruption skyrocket on the early phases of a landing?
The disruption and fatigue penalty for 50% over stacking is very modest. I would anticipate a middle-single digit effect.

All IMO/AFAIK, YMMV.

Andav -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (6/1/2017 8:32:31 PM)

As witpqs says, supply consumption will be the real issue. I think at 3k over it will not be too bad until the landing. Between a couple of bombardments, air attacks and then the CD guns firing at the landings, 8852 supply will evaporate in a day or two even if you were not over stacked. I tried to stay very close to the limit but I am rather OCD about those types of things and I was auto victoried so what do I know. [:D]

The other option, having just under the limit, and the supplies are wiped out on the first day.[;)] The base falls.

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (6/1/2017 8:48:47 PM)

Overstacking certainly seems to inflate the damages (anecdotal evidence in China).

Burma...

Can these guys hold out for a week...the Allies have two divisions and the LRP present.

One good thing, even great thing, is that the Japanese troops will now get supply much faster not being in a base in the malaria season.

What did you do to the Guards Tank?!? Get their Morale up, soldier!

That unit is a beast. Ask Bullwinkle [:'(] (at least, I think ask Bullwinkle, maybe he doesn't have the same perception of it that I do). Admittedly, yours is only Exp 69, but that's still higher than average and because of that and its TOE it should be one of your best units. Rest it up and plug a hole.

It attacked the isolated troop at Katha, and then never got anymore supplies until it finally moved out of Katha which took a week. Sprinkle in some 4E bombing...and it is in tough shape.

mind_messing -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (6/2/2017 12:45:29 PM)

The key to the delaying action at Rabual will be to keep Allied disruption high, waste their supplies and try to reconstruct your own forts.

If you're not already doing so, I'd consider a Tokyo Express style bombardment run. Destroyers on a daily basis, and everything else when it's reloaded.

It's expensive in terms of fuel consumption, but your back-ends to Tarakan and Balikipapan aren't too bad.

Franks on the Attack! Into a 150 strong fighter presence...where in the past we found front line fighters...but not this day!

This ship didn't flee fast enough...and actually reacted towards the enemy air for some reason...but perhaps I can keep her afloat.

A nail biter at Rabaul...but we hold and inflict slightly more damage on the Marines...tough troopers they be.

Why is it that Japanese bombardments are so inferior to Allied bombardments? This is a a 2 BB, 4 CA, 6 DD bombardment...

Lowpe -> RE: Gnashing of Teeth: Cries of Fury (6/3/2017 1:58:41 PM)

I will have to look up and see what is a DB-7B bomber. (A dutch medium bomber dropping 4 250kg bombs, range 6, 6 .303 mg for defense, speed 330 or so).

11 of them meet their makers this day.[:)] Not looking good for the minelayer...still has fires.[:(]
