Torpedo hits - ANY ship that gets hit with a torpedo that explodes (added that in for Allied players) will show up on the sunk list regardless of size.

Being a little daring here, and set all the troops at Chittagong to reserve no pursuit except for two stay behind units that will be either airlifted out or fast transported out on the final day.

So far the troops have made 12 miles in two days of combat move.

The IJN SAG group will run into Chittagong tonight to spoil any possible bombardment by ships.

I am thinking the Allies will either sweep heavily or most likely bomb heavily Chittagong today. No defense other than AA.

3rd Week of Dec, 1942

Good night search followed by day search.

obvert -> RE: Manila Falls (5/19/2016 5:59:52 PM)

Good to see you're getting out of there. Better defensive ground needed fast now that the Allies have a head of steam and some experienced troops.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/19/2016 6:00:12 PM)

Of course the Allies LRCAP, but that is what Oscars are for, right? Good coordination on my raid, going in at 15K.

Lilly's can really get eaten up by LRCAP, but the Oscars are working hard to protect them.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/19/2016 6:01:52 PM)

15 Bombers make it thru to drop bombs....and these are the kind of ships the lilly can really hit.

Mines are an integral part of my defense here, so sinking these guys is worth more than their VP.

obvert -> RE: Manila Falls (5/19/2016 6:17:34 PM)

Plus, it's just fun! [:D]

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/19/2016 6:18:49 PM)

Air losses are very steep for the sinking of those three ships (sinking ship sounds heard twice) at 17 Lilly's and 6 Oscars. Get about 6 Allied planes plus the ships, but I will still do the trade if I can score a Type 88 hit on something...goodness knows the Allied Navy is here in strength.

Funny thing, Allied DL on my bases and TFs (except for Iboats) is very low to non-existent. Only 1 DL on Chittagong, which was swept but not bombed. 0 on almost everything else.

The Deathstar Killer TF is still around, with 3 CA and 7 DD not detected at Akyab.

The Iboats have 10/10 dl in a lot of cases, so the Allies are really worried about them.

The troops have now made 23 miles from Chittagong, and there is some movement of troops back by the Allies, although they have more troops heading in I am sure.

Chittagong at one point had 100 disabled fighters, now that number is 20 and will be next to nothing if I can survive tomorrow.

obvert -> RE: Manila Falls (5/19/2016 6:23:33 PM)

I wouldn't hunt CVs in this kind of area with surface ships, even fast CAs. The ship losses page in my AAR is good evidence for why not! [:D]

I agree with you. The moon is full; there are at least 6 battleships here not to mention all the other stuff. I have learned not to oppose the Allied sledgehammer with force but rather thru other less direct means.

I am worried he might attack tomorrow at Chittagong after a major bombardment. That would hurt, especially if I was in reserve mode!

I laid 40 mines this past night right where all the Allied Deathstar is, and got 7 hits on my minelaying sub for the effort. Perhaps I can score a hit tonight. The Iboat is switched to transport, set to low and will beat feet.

jwolf -> RE: Manila Falls (5/19/2016 7:01:45 PM)

I admire your tactics here, very much like a famous chess mantra: remove the defender. In this case, you've been deliberately targeting ASW and MS assets, even taking some significant losses to do so. Just wondering: do you think your opponent has figured this out yet?

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/19/2016 8:38:48 PM)

3rd week of Dec, 1942

A damaged destroyer tries to leave Chittagong, but flooding overtakes her and she founders...she did get attacked by subs relentlessly prior to going down.

During the day the Allied bombers return in strength to bomb the troops at Chittagong, but no night bombardment. Will he attack...the IJA brazenly kept in reserve no pursuit movement other than a few stay behinds.

If the Allies attack it will go badly...very badly as the bombers are very accurate today.

Over in China we clean up the road to Lanchow. Now just the Kienko road block remains.

Dec 22, 1942

And the troop loading begins...in Alaska. In Canada. At Pearl Harbor. Waves upon waves of ships.

We have the decoy fleets.

We have the strike fleets.

We have the Iboats.

We have scouts.

We have minelayers.

We have the kitchen sink, in fact!

But, a poor showing by the IJN at Chittagong, where the destroyer squadron is surprised thanks to Allied radar, hit hard in the surprise round and never recovers. This despite thunderstorms...the Allies easily dodge all the torpedoes fired at them.

The Allied cruisers go onto bombard Chittagong, the troops are bombed and then attacked yielding a 1-1 and forts are now level 1.

Our troops extract their toll among the attacking Allied army, and is now a scan 11 miles from escaping...can they do it?

I have a fee surprises up my sleeve for tonight...

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/23/2016 5:39:55 PM)

3rd Week of December, 1942

Air sweeps and strikes happen at Chittagong by the Allies, and at Chungking by the Empire.

No naval bombardments, and during the afternoon the IJA makes it into the jungle and out of Chittagong, except for a few aviation units which will be evacuated mostly by air tomorrow.

Iboats are slurping the last of the fuel, and there will be no supply left.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/23/2016 6:21:05 PM)

Quick question, I am 98% done researching the Jill model 1...but engines are still a full month away. Not great timing on my part, but should I upgrade the factories to the next model or simply just wait for the engines and not worry too much about version 2?

Thoughts?

Silly me, I kept putting off the decision I should have made last month.

Lokasenna -> RE: Manila Falls (5/23/2016 7:24:30 PM)

Get the B6N2. Look again at the stats. I don't bother with the B6N1, I think because of the engine actually.

Looking forward to this big USA op beginning. Has it ever been attempted? Not that I know about.

Once they get going I trust you'll be showing some meta-shots of the streams of red heading east! [:)]

savelius2 -> RE: Manila Falls (5/23/2016 10:14:39 PM)

It would probably be worth backing up the saves too, for future reference. I haven't seen any West Coast hijinks on here either and it would probably be useful to look into the reactions of the scenario.

I suppose everybody knows what you're going through now - all the clicks, all the double-checking, all the behind-the-scenes paperwork to make sure TFs follow the right TFs, that Normal/Normal (or variations thereof) are checked, that ASW and MSW are in the right place, etc. etc. etc.

Good luck! Get plenty of sleep!

John 3rd -> RE: Manila Falls (5/23/2016 11:10:27 PM)

HATE all the clicking. Don't you wish for a utility of some sort to help with that?!!

Drakanel -> RE: Manila Falls (5/23/2016 11:22:11 PM)

Looking forward to the invasion, very much so. I wonder how it will turn out... :)

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/24/2016 5:25:24 PM)

Thanks everybody! Too many posts to mention you all, but I am really going cross eyed planning this beast.[:)]

It is a 12 division invasion in three waves...[X(] Well, three big waves plus a steady stream.

1st Wave is 5 Divisions...3 locations; plus assorted smaller invasions (at least 3 should be uncontested) and air drops (2). One primary invasion beach, and two supporting beaches.

2nd Wave is the follow on/reinforcement wave...and will get me over 12 divisions landed. Plus more paratroops.

3rd Wave is the siege/support/supply/mines and ships from the decoy invasion.

I just begged off another extension from Jocke and used my upgrading my main computer as the reason why. I do now have everything installed and running fine (I re-ran the last turn to see if there was any differences).

I do need to get tracker up and running on the upgraded PC, but for now I am going to forget about that and simply run it on the laptop and set it up adjacent to my main cpu.

In addition I have switched to windows mode, for ease of checking notes and to do lists and also easy jumps to onenote.

The next few turns will be a lot of work, but after that not so much for the following few days (except for checking and doublechecking) and then a really hectic few turns when the decoy invasions is spotted, followed on by the real invasion.

At least my troops are back in the Jungle near Chittagong, and Ledo is still mine...

I will start archiving some saves and start making some screenshots so I can so progression once the cat is out of the bag so to speak.

Many thanks to you all, especially Olorin who has given me the greatest start to bungle![:D] Actually, right now I am feeling somewhat confident: I like where the Allied Carriers are, I like where some of the Marines are, and I like what my limited recon is telling me about Jocke's defenses.

The Tony squadrons are pretty much upgraded -- adding to Magwe and Rangoon air defense. The Lilly DB are rolling off the line, as are fighters: A6M5, Tojo IIb, Oscar IIb. Not everyone is upgraded to the Judy, but there are enough I hope (especially with Allied CV's mostly in the Bay of Bengal).

Knock on wood.

Christmas, 1942

A good attack in China.

[image]local://upfiles/44178/E4F25113CAB346C584A25D1465BFAC07.jpg[/image]

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/25/2016 5:44:22 PM)

Chittagong falls as the Allied Army advances into empty entrenchments stripped of all supply.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/27/2016 7:15:59 PM)

End of December, 1942

Another good attack in China...IJA Tanks moving on Kunming.

It will take a while to get the rest of the infantry and artillery to Chungking, but they are being heavily bombed daily now.

Yankees invade Ndeni...Cruisers and smaller there. Yankee subs infest the water. I am putting up no resistance other than some ground troops.

Elsewhere we are loading, loading, and loading.

Quiet weekend here. I hope everything is going well with the operation. I don't know if anyone in AE has done the west coast thing, and I'm very excited.

I have to say, your game is to me the poster child of the limitations of the victory point system. You're actively bombing the west coast, contesting India, and Joc doesn't face any consequences from an entirely defensive posture. Here's hoping your adventure isn't doomed by badly implemented game mechanics due to the unlikely hood of it happening!

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/31/2016 1:30:44 AM)

Hectic Holiday weekend on both our parts. Jocke was away Sunday into Monday evening, and I had parades today...

I haven't even worked on the turn yet and I have had it for 3 days.[X(]

I will start invigorated before breakfast tomorrow and see if we can't flip two turns on Tuesday.

Lowpe -> RE: Manila Falls (5/31/2016 2:12:02 PM)

Finally got the turn to Jocke.

There must be a system or skill, that I lack, that makes executing these invasions a little easier.

I am up to 13 full divisions, plus all support troops for the mission.

I wonder if Jocke gets sig int on them loading.

So far no destinations set yet, and I plan on using waypoints for everything. I understand if I select a final destination far away it may reduce the speed of the fleets....the price I have to pay for trying to steal a march on the Allies.

Jocke is being fairly aggressive I think. He is now in the process of taking Ndeni. He has built up a large force on the border of Burma. He has been very brave using his carriers...really brave. He seems to have a good defense of the Pacific NorthWest.

This is going to be an epic fight here on the shores of North America. Epic!
