STEF78 -> August 1943, the end of the beginning (10/30/2016 10:01:13 PM)

Turn 112, 5th august 1943

Something new this week, it'w now clear that german progress is over.

Novgorod

The southern flank was reinforced... We attack to the west..

Don

Trying to extend the fight area from the Don bend to the Vyazma/Voronejh area

Lower Volga

Astrakhan is safe! The Pzd which were the anchor of the southern defence are required elsewhere. I guess in the center.

Baku

The germans give up their fortified line and calmly retreat to the north

STEF78 -> August 1943, the end of the beginning (11/2/2016 9:17:02 PM)

Turn 113, 12th august 1943

Well, I'm still far behind the curve as we should be fighting on a line Leningrad/Smolensk/Kiev/DZTown. In the north it's ok but in the South I pay for my disastrous 1942's campaign.

Focus on some areas. Due to massive use of sapper régiments, 2 Inf divs in level 2 entrenchment aren't an issue anymore.

Novgorod

I keep on gaining victories, morale and experience. Nice MCV!

Bryansk

I now cover 3 sides of the city.

Boguchar

Hungarians are an easy prey for Central front while Volkhov front arrives from the east. No, It's not a new geographical theory but only the remnants of the scramble of summer 1942 when whole Volkhov front was extracted from Valdai Hills to save Stalingrad.

And the OOB. As already said, time is on my side. But will Russians have enough time to take Berlin? We shall see.

STEF78 -> August 1943, the end of the beginning (11/5/2016 10:08:49 AM)

Turn 114, 19th august 1943

High intensity fights during this week and the Luftwaffe suffered a bloodbath.

Novgorod

Always grinding and an exemple of the losses of the Luftwaffe

Center

Gaining some ground from Smolensk to Kursk. Another defeat for the Luftwaffe.

Boguchar

Hungarians are unable to hold ground

Caspian sea

Axis troops disappeared from this area. Pursuit is on.

Baku

Germans are cautiously retreating.

821Bobo -> RE: August 1943, the end of the beginning (11/5/2016 11:11:57 AM)

Well the Luftwaffe [8|]
Ground support during Soviet phase always ends with bloodbath, however I have so many planes in pool that I can sustain such losses. Though experience is going down.

STEF78 -> August 1943, the end of the beginning (11/6/2016 9:17:30 PM)

Turn 115, 26th august 1943

Always grinding all along the front. Some parts of the german defence are weakening.

Novgorod

The russians have reached the suburb of Leningrad

Bryansk

German divs in hot spots are suffering These 2 one have less than 14k men

Boguchar

The hungarians are near collapsing. they will need some rescue

South

Axis is retreating in order. We bite in the romanian line.

jwolf -> RE: August 1943, the end of the beginning (11/7/2016 1:31:54 PM)

That poor brigade near Boguchar is going to get crushed ...

As I recall, there is a rail bottleneck from Stalingrad going into the Don Bend. Are you at all close to clearing it? Without this line, the nearest ones to the north or south are far away.

It's a naval rifle brigade. at this stage of the game they are usless. I'm thinking about disbanding them to earn some manpower

It's not cleared yet but as Bobo is giving up Caucasus, he isn't likely to keep the Don bend

STEF78 -> September 1943 (11/7/2016 9:14:56 PM)

Turn 116, 2nd september 1943

Surprise at the opening of the turn. The major part of the front wil be quiet.

Fights are keeping on in some areas

Novgorod

Another success for Nicolai Berzanin

Bryansk

a pzd well entrenched is always a hard nut. Bryansk surrounded on 4 sides.

South

Slow pace retreat for the germans

And the OOB, germans are below 4M men

chaos45 -> RE: September 1943 (11/7/2016 9:44:47 PM)

ya the naval bdes u cant merge into other units I found best to just disband by 1943

jwolf -> RE: September 1943 (11/8/2016 2:25:21 PM)

That battle against the Panzer division near Bryansk -- a quarter of a million men attack, with 5K artillery -- and not one German tank is destroyed. [8|] I don't dispute the overall outcome, a successful German defense, but this result seems really extreme.

chaos45 -> RE: September 1943 (11/8/2016 4:35:44 PM)

19 damaged tho.....Germans held the battlefield to recover the damaged tanks you could look at it that way.

Most tanks arent totally destroyed in combat....its the side that losses the field that usually losses alot of tanks because they cant repair what they no longer have.....I do agree tho, light losses but thats standard in WITE

STEF78 -> RE: September 1943 (11/8/2016 7:01:24 PM)

even in case of retreat, AFV losses seem very low. 3 recent examples below

shermanny -> RE: September 1943 (11/11/2016 4:23:07 PM)

In 1943 you need to form as many guards rifle corps as possible. These eventually move up to high-morale monsters. Give each 3 support units; two sapper regiments and one different. Perhaps an SU, perhaps Hvy Tank, perhaps flamethrower bn. It will depend.

shermanny -> RE: The Great Patriotic War (STE78 vs 821bobo) (11/11/2016 5:44:48 PM)

I expect the Germans can hold the draw, what with lower Soviet morale for 1944 and 1945, higher German morale, and truck shortages that plague the Soviets.

A careful German defender can mix determined stands on one sector, backed by plenty of Panzers, with flexible defense and backpedaling on other sectors. As the Soviets make headway in one sector, the defense can shift emphasis to obstruct the most advanced Soviet sector. If the Germans can avoid getting too much pocketed, by prudent use of reserves and withdrawals, they can remain reasonably strong even into 1945.

I have currently 43 guards rifle corps, all filled with 3 sapper regiments

Bobo is actually able to fully block 25/30 hexes. A Pzd in level 3 entrenchment is almost impossible to expell at this stage of the war.

STEF78 -> September 1943 (11/14/2016 8:09:10 PM)

Turn 117, 9th september 1943

Always something new in the russian OOB. At the moment rifle squads are converting to 1943's squads and 76mm field ZIS are replacing 152mm howitzer

The german OOB is above 4M men at the beginning of the turn

In the north, we fell one hex short from an interesting move

In the South, the germans evacuate some salliants and give up eastern Caucasus

STEF78 -> September 1943 (11/14/2016 8:26:40 PM)

Turn 117, 9th september 1943

And an overview of the whole front. Bryansk and Kursk will be liberated soon. Smolensk will follow

STEF78 -> September 1943 (11/19/2016 9:21:05 AM)

Turn 118, 16th september 1943

Novgorod

The finns are counterattacking near Leningrad. One third of the finnish army is involved, heavy losses on both sides.

Of course, as I cannot expell the finns, 2 german inf divs are choosen as victims. They aren't cooperative but retreat after 2 attacks.

Center
Central front is blocked by XXXXIth PzK. A Hard nut...

German line is weakening in front of Smolensk, south of Bryansk and south of Kursk

Caucasus

Axis units have disappeared

ericv -> RE: September 1943 (11/19/2016 9:34:42 AM)

He has got a lot of armored units on the flanks of that pink front of yours to the southwest of Voronezh, that kind of bulges into his line. The german army is still very powerful, I know it is prudent for the german not to attack anymore at this point, but be careful or you might lose a front.. The same happened to, if i recall correctly Loki100 in 1944 not so long ago.

Interesting idea but it would be a hard task to achieve an encirclement for the germans. Their mobile units are spread all along the front, my units are well entrenched and even if they can pierce they will be without entrenchment which mean an CV below 20. I doubt it would be enough against strong russian counterattacks.
from my point of view, german salliants are more in danger than mine.

STEF78 -> September 1943 (11/21/2016 7:58:44 PM)

Turn 119, 23th september 1943

Russian army is more and more powerful while the german one slowly weakens

Novgorod

2 more german divisions worn out

Center

Digging in the german line... and creating more salliants

South

The romanians won't hold the Manych/Don line

STEF78 -> September 1943 (11/28/2016 7:15:59 PM)

Turn 120, 30th september 1943

Mud season is close now. Always grinding wherever it's possible

Novgorod

2 assaults are required to expell 3 infs in level 3 entrenchment.

Smolensk

Time is difficult for german inf divs in hot spots

Center

An overview of the situation from Smolensk to Boguchar (moves not completed)

Bryansk

A closer view from this area where german line weakens

South

Axis in full retreat

STEF78 -> October 1943 (12/1/2016 7:53:23 PM)

Turn 121, 7th october 1943

Last week before mud, focus on 2 sectors

Novgorod

Heavy bombers losses...

Center

Mud will be welcome for the germans. Around Bryansk, the german line holds but is becoming very weak.

Kursk is surrounded and will not be rescued if we get mud.

STEF78 -> October 1943 (12/1/2016 8:14:53 PM)

The evolution of the OOB. German armored units are still strong.

STEF78 -> October 1943, best russian units (12/2/2016 6:31:41 AM)

Russian army is getting stronger month after month. Due to experience, national morale and win/loss ratio, CV is gaining 1 point per month...

jwolf -> RE: October 1943, best russian units (12/2/2016 12:46:17 PM)

Those top guards corps look very nice. [8D] You should be able to make some good progress once the winter starts.

821Bobo -> RE: October 1943, best russian units (12/2/2016 12:48:24 PM)

Tell me, winter already started [:D]

STEF78 -> Summer 1943 (12/5/2016 8:45:43 PM)

Summer 1943 campaign is over. Russians did substantial progress in the South but only because germans gave up ground.

I think that Bobo managed well to handle this summer.

In june, I was too weak to make substantial damages. When august arrived, my army was stronger and some opportunities were close to appear but at this time Bobo evacuated Caucasus and strongly reinforced the Leningrad area with Mountain Inf and center with Pzd coming from the lower Volga.

The germans are now far below 4M men when russian army is approaching 8.5M...

From my opinion the result of the campaign is
1941 minor russian victory
1942 major german victory
1943 minor german victory

I need a major victory in 1944 in order to avoid a draw or worse

Winter campaign will be decisive!

STEF78 -> November 1943 (12/7/2016 6:49:19 PM)

Turn 125, 4th november 1943

Mud in october but snow appears early november in southern Russia. We try to cross the Don east of Rostov. Unfortunatly we didn't succeed in creating a 30 miles wide beachhead
