Larry

Thank you, thank you very much for filling in the Matrix blanks. Don’t get in trouble.
Also, I believe the wine was a pinot. Very nice.

For a city guy night driving in Tucson is a trip. Dark as hell. Good thing I had night compass training . . . good thing you didn’t panic when I got (a little bit) turned around. Luckily, I was driving a company rental car so we had plenty of gas to get lost and explore the territory.

Been to Tucson a number of times and my best memories are the sunset. The sun gets low and the bluffs light up in colors of red, yellow and gold. A beautiful experience. Lasts about 15 minutes!!

The way my house trailer is situated I can't see the sunset because it's blocked by other trailer houses but I CAN see the sun rise
in the morning. It's usually about 05:45 lately, when the sky starts to lighten and the brilliant colors start to differentiate as rays
almost. It last usually only 10 minutes or so but it's pretty cool.

Here's my email to Tamas. See.......here's how you do it. Your turn to write him now.

Larry for president! :)

Thank you! I am one of those following the news here for TOaW IV and feeling frustration...

Tamas -> RE: TOAW IV (4/7/2017 1:27:07 PM)

Hi guys,

What help would it be if I told you yet another deadline? [:)]

There is constant progress, but "only" at the pace that's possible. While Ralph is working on ironing out bugs, Bob enhances the game. One small step at a time, but moving forward.

Maybe if I told you that I have started involving our Marketing guys in certain discussions and preparations, that will be a positive enough hint, but I can't say more [:)]

We will give you a sign of life soon.

First of all Tamas dude, thanks for responding, for posting something.
I appreciate it. You've just admitted in other words that there is
indeed another deadline. Thank you.

I can testify that Bob is worth his weight in gold. He's a keeper.

tcarusil -> RE: TOAW IV (4/7/2017 4:25:35 PM)

Tamas, I do not think anyone wants another deadline. But, I do think the group would like something more than the crickets that have been heard in recent months.

Would it be that hard once a week or two to write a couple of sentences about what is going on. "Ralph continues to work on .... " "Bob is making progress on ..."

What we have now is nothing, and it makes it awfully easy to wonder if anything is being done. I understand that Ralph and Bob are working as hard as they can. Would it hurt to give the group some insight into their work? Would it hurt to give them props for what they are doing? It might help the group appreciate their efforts, and they deserve a great deal of thanks from the group.javascript:void(AddText('[\&o]'))

Further from a marketing standpoint being completely silent is a good way to loose customers. People will drift off to other games that provide something, even if it is not as good as TOAW, because right now it is easy to beat what TOAW marketing is offering, ...nothing. Just look at the traffic on the TOAW discussion board. Again, nothing.

I look forward to playing TOAW IV someday, but don't let it rot on the vine. Give it some life.

HardLuckYetAgain -> RE: TOAW IV (4/7/2017 6:49:43 PM)

Maybe my post actually proved to be good luck? Maybe I'm not "hard Luck" after all ;-P All kidding aside it is nice to get a bit of information. I'm sure the community is anxiously awaiting more yummies to munch on.

Thank you much!

BigDuke66 -> RE: TOAW IV (4/8/2017 12:29:27 AM)

I don't mind an approach where there is only communication if something interesting has happened, I know other games that make a fuzz about just everything and that is totally annoying.
But that just nothing went out for so long just makes the community shrink. At some point the marketing should kick in and start to involve the community. Even if the game is not done or not nearly done you can always throw some bones at the community to keep them occupied and happy and interested in the game.

So, what about a boxart design contest for TOAW IV?

rhinobones -> RE: TOAW IV (4/8/2017 12:41:34 AM)

Tamas

Hello. Larry says you can do magic with the Matrix marketing team. If so, please continue your efforts and the TOAW community will cheer. With our appreciation, please continue your efforts to communicate the progress off TOAW IV toward maturation. People await . . . and we’re getting tired of hearing about how much fun Larry is having playing our game. (Sorry Larry, just had to mention your playtesting fun)

By “our game” I mean exactly that. We are the public who will pay to play TOAW IV. Without the public, there is no TOAW. No sales, no income, no return on investment. All I see now is a middle finger from Matrix. Not a good marketing move in my estimation.

Larry

Here’s a memory from my days in Tucson.

I was in Tucson for a major proposal. Arrived in the spring (temps were just perfect) and left about six weeks later, temps were well over 100. We worked in very well air conditions offices but had to brave the heat as we walked the across the parking lot. One evening I left the office about 7 pm, opened the door and was blasted by 100-degree heat. As I walked I noticed a fellow in the lot wearing a jacket. Wearing a jacket!!! It’s 100-degrees and he’s wearing a jacket? Blood is way too thin. People in Tucson are strange.

Keep in touch. Maybe later in the year I’ll pick you up and take you to Chicago for a real winter.

Regards, RhinoBones

rhinobones -> RE: TOAW IV (4/8/2017 12:49:17 AM)

Sunset, sunrise . . . they are all something special in the desert. You live in a good place.

Regards

I was posting updates because you guys deserved to read SOMETHING but at least two people now
have expressed how it's rubbing people the wrong way, like I'm teasing a dog with a bone. It's
irratating now. My appologies. I will cease and desist if that's the problem I'm causing.

rhinobones -> RE: TOAW IV (4/8/2017 1:43:50 AM)

Not (never) a problem.

Someday I’ll have to pick you up and take you to Chicago for a “real” winter!

Regards, RhinoBones

BigDuke66 -> RE: TOAW IV (4/8/2017 3:30:32 AM)

No way Larry, I prefer your teasing over the total Matrix silence.

woos1981 -> RE: TOAW IV (4/10/2017 12:48:24 PM)

Once again in deep silence.............

FF_1079 -> RE: TOAW IV (4/12/2017 1:27:22 AM)

Honestly, if Larry didn't provide the tidbits he is allowed under the NDA, I would have written this game off long ago as Matrix games second ultimate vaporware project after Battlefields. It's obvious they are making progress, but there has to be a fair amount of work left to do or they would start doing Dev diary's and the such.

pz501 -> RE: TOAW IV (4/12/2017 3:58:40 AM)

I agree. If it weren't for Larry and his enthusiasm, this game might be all but forgotten at this point.

Really, I would have settled for a super patch that allowed an increase in map sizes, number of events, and maybe a few more counter color choices. I sort of remember some talk of new graphics also, and that would be nice too.

I don't know where this thing stands, but I suspect it's halfway between Alpha and Beta right now, and it's anyone's guess when any screen shots or Matrix official information is going to come out. I somehow doubt it will be before this winter though.

I can appreciate that everyone is working hard on this project. I just wish Matrix would allow those involved to communicate more freely.

pz501 -> RE: TOAW IV (4/12/2017 1:53:15 PM)

Given today's TOAW IV announcement, I just might have been wrong about where the development of this Title is at.

In this case it's a good thing to be wrong.

There's some reason for hope it seems, and a lot more than there was yesterday. Maybe we will get this earlier than the end of the year. Only time will tell.

larryfulkerson -> RE: TOAW IV (4/12/2017 6:51:34 PM)

One of the things that has changed with TOAW IV is that the AltGraphics directory is replaced with the GraphicsOverride folder.
In that folder you place all the bmp's you prefer to be used for all your games. In this case I have the graphics for damaged RR hexes
that I prefer. And the new graphics for bridges. I could have just as well put them into the graphics folder but then I would have to
search for them in and amongst the 1,000 other bmp files in there. This way they are all in one place easily found and replaced if
needed.

Also, please note the new directory of mine called the Classic recon redos where the beta team is reviewing all the old
favorites to see which ones need some TLC and which are good to go as they are. Brian is heading up that effort. I'm going to look
at all the Road To Moscow series scenarios to make sure they are okie dokie. And there's a bunch of new scenarios that will
be included in the release. It's all planned to be the total package this time.

well this with the pbem system sounds like an ABSOLUTE BUY unless its priced at 599$ cough haha
LOVED taow3.. time to design some scenarios boys!! ok, I understand we must wait to design so we can use the games features but man this has potential through the roof ...
yummmm food for my grog fest!!

fogger -> RE: TOAW IV (4/15/2017 12:03:49 PM)

The old TOAW 3 Scenario viewer does not work in TOAW 4. Whoever designed it should contact Tamas to join the team. I found the viewer very helpful in the past

Is it more that just an XML editor to design? Asking about the equipment editor integration native into TOAW 4, I was told any XML editor should fit.

The screen shot above shows files in the format *.png

Microsoft Paint files can be saved in the format *.png

So I presume that the game files can be edited in Microsoft Paint. is that correct?

Well, I use The Gimp, so I don't know about Microsoft Paint. But the graphics files are mostly png, except for some legacy stuff.

Hairog -> RE: TOAW IV (4/18/2017 3:06:57 AM)

Net.Paint also uses .png and is free.

Lobster -> RE: TOAW IV (4/18/2017 1:14:20 PM)

Krita is another freebee.

Do you mean paint.net? It's good, free and I use it. There are other freeware graphics programs but I find paint.net very intuitive.

And finally we have some screenshots!Althought I would expected a more pronounced evolution overall it looks good, expecially the interface, but I'm just a bit worried about the combat results panel which seems really "skimpy" (just loss in percentages???)but I suppose a more detailed report is available...

Yes of course the details you can be used to from the previous game are available (and then some).

That screenshot just meant to show a totally new report, which is a summary of all the combats that have happened that turn. In hindsight, we probably should have shown a turn with several combats to make that more obvious. :)

TDefender -> RE: TOAW IV (4/19/2017 5:03:02 PM)

Thanks!
