Gee, Larry. I went to Palo Verde HS in Tuscon for a couple of years (living at Davis-Monthan AFB). Moved back to Arkansas before I graduated, though.

I graduated FWHS in June of '68. And I joined the Air Force in November of '68 and was gone for about 6 years.* But I've been here
ever since. I consider it home I guess. I was an Air Force brat too. We moved every once in a while for about 3 years for my dad in
the Korean War era. I lived in Wyoming at one point but I have no memory of it. Too young to appreciate it. I don't remember any
involvement with Palo Verde HS in terms of football games or wrestling matches and the like. Was your school up in the foothills?

EDIT: * it was actually 5 years 10 months 10 days and I walked out the gate about noon.

I was there from early '67 to early '69. Palo Verde was the HS closest to Davis-Monthan. Also lived in Florida and North Carolina as well as Japan and Germany. You moved a lot in the AF.

I still remember my first day in Tuscon: Rode my bike a short ways and had two flat tires - it was then I was informed you had to have special, extra-thick inner-tubes for the area - due to the stickers in everything, even the grass. But by the time I left, I was used to walking barefoot in that same, sticker infested, grass. :)

The site hasn't been moved to 'coming soon' yet.
I'm not expecting anything this Christmas [:(]

I will neither confirm nor deny that I have seen your post nor that have replied to it.

The black helicopters will arrive shortly.

....... Also lived in Florida.........

I was at Hurlburt Field, FL from approx.. November of 1971 until approx August of 1971 ( about nine months ) learning how to put
together the 40mm PomPom gun in the dark. The AC-130's I flew on had the ramp open during flight because of the equipment
to dispense flares was mounted there. As a consequence, we had to fly with the lights off and there was a 30 knot breeze from the
ramp to the front troop door near the pilots nest. It was cold in the mountain air above the trail in Laos because we had to fly at
15k feet at least to stay out of the mountain peeks but down in Cambodia it was mostly flat terrain like an ancient river bed and the
breeze was a welcome respite to the hotness at ground level. And it was so humid that sometimes the air conditioner would blow
small snowflakes. Sometimes the pilot would let me stand behind him during the mission so I could see what happens in the front
office for a short little while. It's not so busy in the back until the guns are firing because it was up to us to feed the guns with their
bullets, a clip of four at a time for the 40mm. One at a time for the 105 howitzer. The 20mm gatling guns were fed by a chute from
the ammo box(es) to the gun and we had to make sure there were no kinks in the travel as that might cause a gun stoppage or
damage or both. All of this in the pitch blackness of night time flight. We carried a really small flashlight in our mouth to see what
we were doing with a red lens on it. It was just enough light but no more. After we landed of course it was lit up like a bus. To ride
in the back was to smell the smoking of the tires when landing and smelling burned kerosine when we backed out of a parking
spot. I don't miss it much.

TDefender -> RE: ETA? (11/15/2016 4:14:28 PM)

Can a strategy/war game can be developped in a modern, different and efficient way? Yes, it can.

http://www.the-artistocrats.com/

[&o]

You can obvioulsy dislike the game but damn it, these guys really know how to promote they work.
Pre-release dev diaries, constant forum support and dialogue with users, patches, free new contents, dlc, Steam support and so on and yes, sales go well and you cannot wonder why...

ncc1701e -> RE: ETA? (11/15/2016 9:08:46 PM)

Yes but how many people is there behind this development studio? I understand there are only two developers behind TOAW IV. And, I do not think my C knowledge may help them.

I think fogger and larry have made several attempts to give feedback on the development. But, they have done this in the limit of the NDA contract they have signed. I respect this.

Plenty of people (I hope) including me are impatient to see the beast. Let's be patient.[:)]

That's exactly the point. Why assign prestigious brand such as Toaw, Close Combat or Field of Glory (with reference to the recent and very disappoiting "Unity edition") to "underpowered" teams?

ncc1701e -> RE: ETA? (11/16/2016 6:56:27 PM)

You could also mention MWIF and its unique designer. But, one thing puzzle me. Was Norm Koger alone to develop TOAW? Or, did I miss someone else?

Of course not. Norm was game design, concepts, research, and programming. But he had lots of help. He had been making games since the mid 80s http://www.normkoger.com/games.html

Jutland and Distant Guns were good games until they were 'fixed' and not fixed in a good way. They are both fairly abandoned now.

FF_1079 -> RE: ETA? (11/19/2016 3:18:02 AM)

Going back to something I said pages ago in this thread, I hope that when TOAW IV someday gets ready for release, they put the same full court press on the site like they have for Strategic Command 3. Lots of reviewer "Let's Play" videos, fully described and visualized AAR's, near constant feedback and quickly answered questions by the designers - everything that makes someone feel confident in buying a game. I watched almost 22 of the 40 odd Paradogs videos about playing SC3's 1939 campaign from the Axis side - the average length of those videos is OVER 20 minutes each. While I was playing around a bit with the beta, watching those videos inspired me to really dig into the game. I bought it at 11:00 AM on the first day of release - they really sold me on how good the game was.

If they are planning a pre-Christmas release, they needed to start banging the drum about it on Nov 1st, people need a little time to get worked up and excited about a product. They also need time to budget it over other holiday expenses. I'm not trying to be negative, but I have a hard time believing this will be an Xmas release. The brief flow of info has trickled to a stop again, and that's not the best way to build a wave of excitement for your product ...

FF_1079 -> RE: ETA? (11/20/2016 6:02:51 PM)

I made my last post around 10 PM Friday evening ( East Coast US time ), and here we are Sunday afternoon, and nothing back from anyone at Matrix or from the 2 man development team. This is probably annoying to those involved, but letting the last post in your sub-forum sit unanswered for close to two days, is not a winning formula. TOAW has a built in customer base from many years ago, but you can't count on them to find your game after 12 years and buy an update after you have so surreptitiously hidden any developer updates on a routine basis.

I am not blaming Ralph on this one, he is coding as best he can, and has taken on a pretty gigantic task, Matrix/Slitherine needs to either award more assets and prioritize the development of this game, or be honest with all involved and admit that it's such a low priority and disregarded income source that they won't do anything but release what gets turned over to them.

Seriously, I am not a paper tiger, I purchased Victory and Glory: Napoleon and Strategic Command 3 as soon as both were available, I liked what I saw in preview videos and all the concurrent marketing. I have no regrets with either purchase, so I am left to wonder why the same professional machine is not getting behind TOAW IV. The two games I mentioned are "light" beer and pretzel style games, but TOAW IV is a bastion of the Grognard discipline. If any non- Grigsby game deserves Top-Shelf service and respect from a publisher - which other than TOAW IV?

I feel your pain dude. And a cold shower won't help. Maybe an aspirin dissolved in some black coffee. With a lemon slice.

What was it in M*A*SH that they suggested: the black capsule. Yeah, definately the black capsule.

Ralph OWNS TOAW now. Rights, kit, kaboodle, everything. So it's his to do with as he pleases- develop or not develop, at whatever pace suits him.

Matrix/Slith don't give a rat's ass about it other than they'll peddle TOAW in whatever form he delivers it to them (within reason, i.e. it works). They've no 'skin' in the game other than making some $s if it ever goes to press, so if it does, well then great, if it never sees the light of day again, well ain't that just too bad.

Sources please. Nothing from Facebook will be accepted as factual. Cuz it's, you know, Farcebook.

Last I knew it was in the Matrix stable.

Think racehorses (or asses). It may be in the stable, but all that means is they'll house it, trot it, market it, sell it (all for fees) but they don't (necessarily) own it. In TOAW's case, they don't (any more).

For all we know, Ralph could finish it up tomorrow and flog it somewhere else if he doesn't like the % Matrix offers for distribution++.

Lobster -> RE: ETA? (11/21/2016 12:22:52 AM)

Again, sources.

Catch21 -> RE: ETA? (11/21/2016 9:00:33 AM)

Do the legwork yourself, it's there, in here.

For all practical intents and purposes, from a player's/designer's perspective, it seems to me this is still where the state of play is vis-à-vis TOAW, almost 2 years later.

And it's maybe a good place to start if you're coming late to the (late) TOAW party.

That's true. Is there any way to get it moved (and declassified, if that's what's needed) given it's nearly 2 years now?

Neither moderator (JAMiAM , ralphtrick) is around any more (or posts or seems to take any interest). And it seems unfair to leave folks- either who've been waiting or new folks who look in- hanging or uninformed as to state of play.

Besides, the forum area in question relates to TOAW III Development, and we're of course now well into IV.
