Why not invade somewhere on Java during the surprise? Taking Batavia is enough to make NEI surrender. And knocking out that territorial doesn't look all that tough considering all the shore bombardment Japan has available as soon as the weather improves.

Yeah, I probably picked the wrong place to land. I invaded where I did because of Japan's immediately need for oil. I messed up by also unit the 8-4 infantry unit instead of the 2-4 division only. The 8-4 with the 6-3 IJN marine, possibly with another division, could have easily land on Java next impulse. But I messed that up. [:(]

Centuur -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/13/2016 4:39:26 PM)

I'm thinking: is there a juicy target for the USSR to destroy/capture at the Konigsberg area? If so, it might be wise to force Germany to relocate the units south of Pskov back to the west. Moving a fast unit out of Pskov into Riga (or the hex north of it if there is only the division at Pskov) can cause another delay on the German side.

You can use the units which are not in a city around that area to get into Pskov to replace units moved out of that city.

And I think it is about time you leave the units in Smolensk to become heroes. The Stuka's there are too close to the frontlines, especially since the Soviets have to few FTR's in the area. By the way: Stalin should build 2 FTR's each turn with a pilot (or two, depending on the fact if pilots survive or not). To put pilots into crappy old planes is plain foolish). After that it's HQ-INF, GAR, MIL, INF. Don't rebuild Zhukov if he gets destroyed. He's too expensive in 1941-1942...

AlbertN -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/13/2016 7:17:33 PM)

By what I see it's pretty much game over already; Barbarossa has not exactly harvested Germany ample resources nor disrupted Soviet production.
Japan got litterally shored in China and as the USA will be soon in - China will begin to churn out more troops and begin to dent the Japanese defences here and there.
Italy has the bulk of its army litterally stranded past the Eastern Med and is ripe open for invasions and all what the Allies can do.

Centuur -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/13/2016 7:34:47 PM)

This will end up in an allied victory, no doubt about it. Question is only: how soon...

AlbertN -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/13/2016 8:51:17 PM)

I'll take chance to invite RKR to a reflexion.

Med strategy is worth only if you close it fully. Otherwise you get in a situation where you have forces stranded away and it syphons energies out of the Barbarossa (Air actions and whatnot).
IF you go Barbarossa '41, each Condor would have been an extra ARM in Russia for example, and each FTR3 in the Med is a FTR3 (or a Mech) less in Russia.

Italian forces should have been helpful too in Russia at that stage more than to sit there guarding something that ... hmm is worth some oils (A Soviet would have prolly seized Persia before you could have aligned it).

Axis dispersed its forces - in a game that is designed to be a game of -mass and brute force- with some "finesses" which are to observe range of planes, and position some troops so that their movement can allow them to do this or that (a forest hex can make the difference where an ARM moving 6 can go, and one moving 4 cannot for ex.)

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 1:17:10 AM)

Generals Cohen & Centuur,

I do agree that the allies will probably win. The only question is when. As the allies, including the Soviets, I plan to first gain the initiative and then beat the axis. It's in gaining the initiative that I'll probably be more cautious than the two of you would be, and most certainly more cautious than warranted.

General Centuur,

Good advice on building Soviet fighters and pilots and build priorities in general. I will definitely use your outline as the Soviet guideline.

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. Weather.

It's winter with Blizzards in the Arctic and North Temperate. And the long range forecast for these two regions isn't much better.

Actions.

CW - combine, Free France - combine, USA - naval, USSR - land, China - land.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 1:25:56 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. USA DOW on Germany and Italy.

President Roosevelt is successful in getting the US Congress to include Germany and Italy in the USA's formal declaration of war on Japan. It's now total war against the axis powers.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 1:34:44 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. CW. RN, Port Attack. Tripoli.

RN carrier based planes conduct an air raid on the Italian battleship docked in Tripoli. This raid is met by an Italian fighter unit which is shot down. RN carrier based bombers get through but only manage to disorganize the Italian battleship when they had a chance to damage it. Still, the RN managed to splash an Italian fighter unit so the air raid was a decent win for the RN.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 1:36:29 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. CW. RN, Port Attack. La Spezia.

The RN launched a second, smaller and uncontested air raid on the Italian fleet based in La Spezia. The result is classified as a very minor victory for the RN. A victory nevertheless.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 1:37:48 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. RN & USN. East Coast.

Neither side choose to initiate combat.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 1:39:03 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. RN & USN. Cape St. Vincent.

The USA sent strong reinforcements into the Cape St. Vincent. As a result neither side, again, tried to initiate combat.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 1:40:32 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. RN. Italian Coast.

The RN did try to initiate combat off the Italian coast. The Italians sortied an additional fighter and NAV unit to box 1 of the area. However, both side's searches failed resulting in no combat.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 1:41:23 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. RN. East Med.

The RN again tried but failed to initiate naval combat, this time in the East Med.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 1:44:34 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. USA. West Africa.

The USA put so naval, ground and air forces into the Cape Verde Basin. The air and ground forces are head to Free French West Africa to establish a base from which a combined Western Allied attack on Vichy France can be initiated and supported. The USA also established a 2 CP deep pipeline from the USA to French West Africa in order to send the Free French first an oil point and BP and then 2 BP's per turn.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 1:46:51 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. USN. The Marshalls.

The USA during the NAV air phase puts a fighter and NAV unit in the 3 box of the Marshalls. This reestablish allies supply through that region and provides a bit of buffer and protection for their naval base at Hawaii.

Neither choose to initiate combat. The IJN choose not to because of the significant number of additional land based air units the USA could add to this area.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 2:10:28 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. USN. The Solomons.

With storms in the Solomons "grounding" the IJN NAV unit the USN has a slight advantage with 2 heavy cruisers in the 2 box versus 1 IJN heavy cruisers in the 3 box. The USN tries to initiate combat but neither side is able to find the other.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 2:26:00 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. USN. China Sea.

No luck here either for the USN subs who try to initiate combat but fail.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 2:26:57 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. USN. Central Pacific.

USN, again, unsuccessfully tries to initiate combat.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 2:28:23 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. USN. The Marianas.

The USN decides to initiate combat, the IJN sorties a fighter unit to the 1 box and both sides, again, fail to find the other.

[image]local://upfiles/31901/AFA1CAD9623B4AACBA12EC1CAFF43608.jpg[/image]

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 2:33:12 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. USN. Hawaiian Islands.

The USN unsuccessfully tries to initiate combat here.

A remarkable turn from the perspective of trying to initiate naval combat. There were 7 attempts to initiate naval combat by the Western Allies (Italian Coast, East Med, The Solomons, China Sea, Central Pacific, The Marianas and The Hawaiian Islands). All 7 were unsuccessful.

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. USA. The Hawaiian Archipelago.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 2:37:16 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. USSR. The Eastern Front, North.

The USSR takes a land and uses that land to adjust and strength their northern defense line.

rkr1958 -> RE: Global War AAR in Pictures (4/14/2016 2:38:51 AM)

Turn 15. Jan/Feb 1942. Allied #5. USSR. The Eastern Front, South.

Soviet defenses are thinnest in the south, but too are the German forces. Still, the defenses could use beefing up but as a second priority to Soviet defenses in the north.
