Turn 18. Jul/Aug 1942. Germany. The Eastern Front. Land Combat 4 (Pskov) and 5 (Odessa). The next land combat was an assault to take Pskov and secure that sector once and for all. The odds of killing both Soviet armies and, thus, taking the city was 56%. Not great but slightly better than a coin flip. Not only do the Germans fail to take the city but their roll of a 6 produces a modified roll of the "dreaded" 14 on the assault table. The Germans fail to take the city and they lose 3 units. The there's the assault on Odessa. This attack also had a slightly better chance of a coin flip (53%) of succeeding. The German player rolls a 3! Not only doesn't it succeed but the Soviets lose no units. For the five land combat this impulse the German player rolled 15, 2, 11, 6 and 3. If these were physical dice and I were the German player, I'd have to buy replacement dice and have these replacement dice watch as I bash these two dice in pieces with a hammer.
