I knew an amazon that did the music from Jurassic Park. Perfect for the little T-Rex. When the T-Rex's pupil would narrow from the flashlight in it's eyes, so would the pupils on Bogart the amazon. If you know amazons, that means hide your fingers or they might get bitten off.

My daughter's conure was about the same size as an Amazon Parrot, and it would bite too. It hurt but no where near finger removal. I gave it a fingernail flick on the beak when it did that and it soon stopped doing it to me. [:-]
Couldn't train it not to poop everywhere in the room though. Nor to give up its shrill whistle that hurt the ears.

I was being hyperbolic about biting fingers off. I should have been parabolic.

Don't Gorns already have x-ray vision? Or is it infrared vision?

[:D] I didn't know Darth Vader had a pet!

Oddly enough, even though I am retired, the wife and I and a couple of others started a hemp drying biz (hemp, not weed). So one of our biz partners was so tired of seeing biz cards at trade shows with the normal titles of CEO, CFO, etc that he suggested we give ourselves Star War names. I am the negotiator so my card reads Darth Vader. And I have 5 dogs! So there you go.

Did they give you the Darth Vader title because of heavy breathing and a short temper? Did your Emperor have wrinkles?

My dad (an ex-navy man) had both hemp and sisal ropes in the basement that we kids used in a lot of our play - like tying the "bad guys" to a post when we played cops and robbers. Never forget the smell of hemp. I think it was also used to make burlap sacks? What do you do with your dried hemp?

What does his hookup profile read? Must love scarab beetles? Love their mummy?

While I do have heavy breathing and sometimes a short temper, it was more about being merciless in negotiations. We just dry the hemp and give it back to the farmers, but many of them are looking for a more 'full service' product. Most of it eventually gets turned into CBD oil, tinctures, etc. But it is the Wild West in terms of regulations, people of questionable reputations etc. We might eventually invest in being able to produce CBD oil but in the current environment we are in a bit of capital preservation mode. Has been an interesting learning experience though. And I like to learn.

It is odd how hemp got regulated out of commerce years ago when it makes some of the best ropes. There's also a product called hempcrete. Basically cinder block shaped things that weigh almost nothing but you can use to face your basement, etc. Made from the stems of the plant.

I wonder why so many assume that hell is a warm place. What if it is a really cold place?

RangerJoe -> RE: OT Things to ponder (7/13/2020 5:29:59 PM)

Scandinavian Hell is cold but for the people in the Middle East, that might have been a nice change - at least for awhile.

If you drive to Trandheim, you will either drive through Hell or near it.

I think there is mention of fire and brimstone (Sulphur) in connection with the biblical Hell (and sometimes my bathroom ...)

No, you have to find some Perches before you can read it. One just won't do, you have to have two or more there.

I can't be satisfied with my porches either - I live an apartment and my little balcony does not qualify as a porch. It is creepy that they want to stand behind me on my porch though ...

There is no time such as 12 pm.

witpqs -> RE: OT Things to ponder (7/25/2020 2:32:14 PM)

Yes there is, it's also called Noon. 12 AM is Midnight.

Indeed.

The 24 hour/day cycle starts at 12 midnight (usually indicated as 12 a.m.), runs through 12 noon (usually indicated as 12 p.m.)

RangerJoe -> RE: OT Things to ponder (7/25/2020 3:47:07 PM)

AM stands for Ante Meridian, which is before the Meridian.
PM stands for Post Meridian, which is after the Meridian.

Noon is the Meridian, there Noon is noon or 12 hundred hours.

Legally speaking 12:00 am and 12:00 pm DO NOT exist and should NEVER be used in any contract, statute or anything else that could wind up in court (unless a specific jurisdiction has codified the terms, of which I am unaware). For example look at your car insurance card: most likely it states that the coverage is good from 12:01 am through 11:59 pm on dates in question. Now that doesn't mean there's a two minute gap upon renewal as it's legally understood that coverage runs from the very beginning of the day (12:00:00.0001- am) to the very end of the day (11:59:59.9999+ pm).

Shellshock -> RE: OT Things to ponder (7/25/2020 3:50:32 PM)

They also spelled 'embroidery' wrong on their own shop's sign. Not a thing that exactly inspires confidence when you're in the signage business.

It's like an ad for a spellcheck program that has spelling errors...

I find it funny that it is spelled correctly in the window. (or so I think anyway)

So why not use the 24 hour clock in contracts instead? Or is that an issue as well?

But how do you know they don't handle embrios as well? That's still a misspelling, but the letter sequence is right. The guys doing illegal abortions don't care much about spelling anyway.
