AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/3/2017 7:13:06 PM)

First up, the East Med.

The Italians don't add any extra air units. I suspect the Lancs won't fly. Do the CW want to fly the Mossie from Malta up to the 2-box?

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 4:23:54 AM)

No, thank you.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 8:24:32 PM)

East Med Searches: Axis 3, Allies 8. With quite a good roll, the Axis decide to target the ships in the 3-box.

Allied AA is pretty effective (9, 5, 3, 4), resulting in 60% of the bombs dropped short. 5 surprise points are used to boost the damage to 2D, A. some of the remaining bombs cause severe damage to the French battleship Strasbourg. How would the Allies like to place the 2nd D?

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 8:35:01 PM)

USS Tennessee, thank you.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 8:39:45 PM)

USS Tennessee is forced to return to port along with the Heavy Cruiser Quincy. The Italians stay to continue the fight. Do the Allies?

The Allied forces in the East Med will retire after this round. CW forces to Alexandria and US forces to Port Said.

How about the Strasbourg?

Edit: As it's damaged, I'll send it to Beruit.

Syria is good enough.

I didn't bother with the French since their ship will be removed as soon as it enters port anyway.

warspite1

Beaten to it.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 8:48:44 PM)

Cape St Vincent.

The Italian sub initiates. Do the Allies want to add any air support? Swordfish and Hurricane up to 1-box. F2A to the 2-box.

warspite1 -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 8:51:19 PM)

Edit: I'll stay schtum then.....

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 8:51:28 PM)

Just the naval bomber to the 0-box. Thank you.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 8:55:46 PM)

Searches: Axis 6, Allies 5. No combat.

Bay of Biscay

The Italian fighter initiates (4 factor fighter). The Axis have a 7 factor fighter and two NAV's. The Allies have quite a fighter presence but could add more should they wish?

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 8:57:11 PM)

Indeed more air will be added. Give me one minute as I will look over the US forces as well.

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 9:00:33 PM)

The P-39L in Plymouth and the Spitfire in Liverpool are added to the 0-box. Thank you.

I'd already rolled the dice based upon Warspite1's initial reply. I'm not going to redo this just to add the NAV to the 0-box.

That is quite all right. And I wouldn't have asked for it even if there had been some action.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 9:08:04 PM)

Searches: Axis 3, Allies 8.

Axis opt for naval air combat. They use 6 surprise points to reduce the Allies air-to-air value. Do the Allies wish to alter the batting order?

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 9:10:38 PM)

The battle order is good enough.

Note: CW still has a pilot that needs to be "saved". I would prefer not to have that used up here, but just in case...

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 9:16:42 PM)

The first two rounds see an Axis bomber cleared through. It was Allied choice so I just picked the lesser of the two. The Allied bomber is also cleared. The Axis then manage to abort the Typhoon. Where does it return to?

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 9:18:29 PM)

Bilbao.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 9:23:41 PM)

The Allies abort the Fw-190 (to woods east of Bordeaux) but the front Spitfire is aborted in turn. Where does this go?

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 9:24:54 PM)

Santander.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 9:29:09 PM)

When the second Italian bomber is aborted, the Italian fighter decides enough is enough and ends the combat.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 9:34:37 PM)

AA fire is sporadic (1, 8, 2, 4).

Canadian transports receive the brunt of the attack and are severely damaged. Where do the Allies want to place the abort?

[image]local://upfiles/47730/4538A8F77369431BBE232C60F1FACDD6.jpg[/image]

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 9:39:32 PM)

On the damaged TRS. Allies remain on station.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (12/4/2017 9:46:43 PM)

The TRANS is aborted.

Heavily outnumbered in the air, the Italians decide to call it a day.

Pick up the action tomorrow evening where the focus shifts to the China Sea. Will the Allies wish to initiate combat?

So much effort for one damaged ship...

Can anyone explain how air to air values are calculated (how back up fighters effect)? It seemed to be +1/-1 before using surprice points.

I remember this was difficult on board game. When I asked it here on this forum I was adviced just to and 1/10 for each back up fighter (7+0.6+0.6+0.6+0.5+0.5 and 7+0.4). That would give +2/-2.

It depends on whether you are using an optional rule. CVPs are always one tenth of A2A value. Using the base rule all backup FTRs are +1. With the optional rule, they are one tenth. I do not like that optional rule at at all; in the early game it makes back up fighters just about useless.
