Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #1. The Portual "Dunkirk".

USN and RN forces successful evacuate all land forces from Portugal. Because three HQ units were included in this evacuation and allied air was stack to the hilt, three air units flew naval air missions to Cape St. Vincent to avoid overstacking after evacuations. The remaining 5 air units will rebase either after a ground strike or ground support air mission or during the rebasing phase.

The evacuate ground and air forces will be put to immediate use in fighting the German and Italians in Morocco.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #1. The Norway Invasion Group.

The Norway invasion group puts out to the North Sea supported by strong naval and air forces. This operation was put together in a hurry at the urging of PM Churchill.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #1. RN. East Med.

No combat attempted by the RN, which means no combat this impulse, in the East Med.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #1. USN. Bismark Sea.

With storms raging in the Bismarck Sea, which renders Japanese airpower useless, the USN sends in subs and surface ships in an attempt to find and destroy Japanese convoys. No joy ... as the USN search roll badly misses.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #1. USN. South China Sea.

No joy either for USN subs in the South China Sea looking for Japanese convoys.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #1. USN. Central Pacific.

The USN chooses not to attempt naval combat in the Central Pacific. However, the Japanese can if they wish. If they do, the USA will react with a weak fighter to the 0-box.

Do you wish to attempt to initiate combat?

No, I'll let sleeping dogs stay asleep.

Ronnie, how much longer are you going to continue this? At some point, the game just becomes an exercise in masochism, and I think that point is rapidly approaching, if it hasn't already been reached. Perhaps when Turkey enters and Moscow falls?

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #1. US Paradrops.

1. The USA drops the 101st airborne division, the "Screaming Eagles" on Rabot, Morocco. This drop is escorted by two RAF fighter unis (w/6 & 5 air-to-air factors).

2. The US XVIII paratrooper is drooped on Casablanca. This drop is escorted by one RAF, 6 air-to-air, fighter unit.

3. On alert are 2 RAF and 1 USAAF fighter units ready to respond. 2 of these units (6 air-to-air & 4 air-to-air) could counter-intercept over both drop hexes. 1 unit (5 air-to-air) can counter-intercept over Casablanca only.

4. The Italians have 5 fighter units that can interfere with one or both of these drops.

5. Intercept Instructions?

6. P.S. Clark's HQ & Mot corps are also attempting an amphibious landing against Rabat, Morocco in conjunction with the drop by the 101st.

5. Intercept Instructions?

The 5pt Macchi just SW of Rabat will intercept over Rabat. Others are waiting for the ground support phase.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #1. US Paradrops #2.

1. Dick Winters C/O of Easy Company and the rest of the 101st successfully make it through after the lead RAF fighter unit forces the intercepting Italian unit to abort.

2. The US XVIII para corps drops unopposed.

However, both airborne units will have to fight and secure their LZ's to remain alive.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Axis Defensive Group Support.

1. The Germans and Italians have the opportunity to provide defensive ground support to either or both defenders of the Casablanca and Rabat land attacks.

2. Still on alert are 2 RAF and 1 USAAF fighter units ready to respond. 2 of these units (6 air-to-air & 4 air-to-air) could counter-intercept over both drop hexes. 1 unit (5 air-to-air) can counter-intercept over Casablanca only.

3. Defensive ground support Instructions?

3. Defensive ground support Instructions?

Over Rabat: 6 pt Macchi and one of the 5pt Bf 110G escort the Arieet (flying as a bomber) and the He 111H (extended range I believe).

Over Casablanca: 7 pt Re.2005, 4pt Re.2000, and second of the 5pt Bf110Gs escort the Ju87R and Ju88A4

Note, the order I mentioned the planes is the order they should be in the line of battle (front to back)
Clear back bombers first if possible.

I will shoot down your fighters first.

Unless it becomes very lopsided (<= -4), I will stay till all bombers are accounted for.

Abort as many planes as possible into Spain, so longer range planes may need to abort further from the coast.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #1. Air-to-Air. Rabat, Morocco.

A fierce air battle of Rabat, Morocco takes place with both the RAF and Luftwaffe losing a fighter unit. In the end, the allies manage to get 1 ground support factor through and the axis 2.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #1. Air-to-Air. Casablanca, Morocco.

Note, for some reason MWiF showed the second German Bf 100G in range to provide escort to either attack but it isn't. It's on the coast of the North Sea. So in your instructions above I substituted an Italian fighter for the second (backup) fighter.

The air to air battle of Casablanca was also a brutal affair with an Italian fighter and German bomber unit being shot down. However, one German bomber did get through to add 4 in defensive ground support. Two allied bombers got through totaling 5 factors.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #1. Ground Support. Kristiansand, Norway.

Now it's on to five land combats. Two in Morocco and three in Norway.

[image]local://upfiles/31901/10A7C7A7263A423E99C24DF4BC453E8D.jpg[/image]

rkr1958 -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (11/16/2017 8:35:25 PM)

MWiF crashed right before I was to return the last plane to base. I now need to go back and recreate all the air to air. What a PITA!

Somehow the game file got corrupted I guess because I can't get pass the error. I need to go back to the beginning of the ground support phase and try to recreate everything from there.

Turn 24. Jul/Aug 1943. Allied #1. Land Combat. Morocco.

A bit bloody but all in all significantly better than what could happened.

The allies capture Casablanca and Rabat.

Yes, I think it was clear in summer 42 where this game was going and that allies don't have a shot in heck of winning. I'm not sure either why it's going on. Ah well let's see what the allies can do in Morocco and Norway and the Pacific while we watch SU be pulled into pieces by Germany.

ashkpa -> RE: Pat vs Ronnie GW AAR (11/28/2017 8:34:47 PM)

JA43 i2 Axis
Ge and Jp take combines
It takes a land

Germany and Italy fly air units to the North Sea and CSV. Germany moves a transport fleet to the Baltic and picks up several units. Japan moves a CP to the Marianas and subs to the BoBengal and Cape Naturaliste.

Below is a list of potential naval combats.
The axis decline to initiate in the South China Sea, Central Pacific and Bismarck Sea.
In the BoBeng the rolls are 8/10 resulting in no combat.
In Cape Naturaliste the rolls are 10/6 resulting in no combat.

CSV. React Sunderland to the 3-box.
