March 24, 1942 A less exciting turn today. Huge day bombing though![;)] DEI: The USN CAs bombard Muntok with somewhat underwhelming effect. They plaster Palembang regularly, but get only a few hits here on this level 1 base. The intel is useful though. Pete's are running search here and there is a base force unit, maybe a small Coy, so the base can support fighters and CAP. That means I need to keep working on it. The goal with the next week is to land at all three bases with airfields in this area; Sinkep, Muntok and Toboali. There is only a week left for the amphibious bonus. Anything after that will take the Japanese much more time, should have to be prepped and will often need the better, faster unloading ships to accomplish. Singers is hit again, but not spectacularly. Still, with 50-60 infantry squads a week being disabled, the divisions there probably won't be attacking again soon. Supply at Singers has reached 55k, and another 20-30k is available to send in should the coast look clear. Fort construction goes up about 3% a day. So in another month or so, if luck continues and no other big change occurs, forts could hit level 6. [:)] The Major news of the day though is that the motley crew hitting Palembang strike for 36 total oil hits!!! [8D][&o] Excited to see the results there. The 4Es actually do significantly worse at Djambi, getting only 5 hits and only a few on the runways. Still, this is slowly chipping away, and I won't be ready to take the base for another 5-7 days. DMS clear 15 mines from Palembang and AMc take out another 15 at Toboali. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Mar 24, 42 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Naval bombardment of Singapore at 50,84 Allied Ships BB Resolution BB Ramillies BB Royal Sovereign BB Revenge Japanese ground losses: 194 casualties reported Squads: 1 destroyed, 14 disabled Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 10 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled Vehicles lost 1 (1 destroyed, 0 disabled) Walrus II acting as spotter for BB Resolution BB Resolution firing at 5th Division BB Ramillies firing at 56th Division BB Royal Sovereign firing at 18th Division BB Revenge firing at 55th Division -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Naval bombardment of Muntok at 50,90 Japanese aircraft no flights Japanese aircraft losses F1M2 Pete: 2 damaged F1M2 Pete: 1 destroyed on ground Japanese Ships xAK Arima Maru, Shell hits 1, on fire Allied Ships CA Chicago CA Portland Japanese ground losses: 54 casualties reported Squads: 1 destroyed, 0 disabled Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Airbase supply hits 1 Runway hits 5 Port hits 2 Port supply hits 1 CA Chicago firing at Muntok SOC-1 Seagull acting as spotter for CA Portland -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TF 152 encounters mine field at Palembang (48,91) Allied Ships DMS Wasmuth DMS Chandler 15 mines cleared -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning Air attack on Palembang , at 48,91 Weather in hex: Heavy cloud Raid spotted at 20 NM, estimated altitude 13,000 feet. CHINA: Our bombers hit a few LI points at Wuchow. No IJAAF action aside from the usual Wenchow runs. SOVIETS: Both Sunwu and Heiho are bombed and the fields hit hard. I'll keep going for another day before switching some bombers to the troops. If both of these bases are out of order he can't really CAP here at all effectively. It's a bit far from anywhere else. Near Mishan the last division to be moving out is still in the hex with our troops. I'll try an attack, but it might move out before the turn is done. With nearly 1,500AV against 350AV the Soviets should be in good shape here, but they are slight fatigued from the last try. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at 114,41 (near Mishan) Allied Bombardment attack Attacking force 1992 troops, 154 guns, 160 vehicles, Assault Value = 1447 Defending force 14539 troops, 185 guns, 80 vehicles, Assault Value = 369 Japanese ground losses: 60 casualties reported Squads: 2 destroyed, 5 disabled Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Guns lost 13 (3 destroyed, 10 disabled) Vehicles lost 1 (1 destroyed, 0 disabled) Allied ground losses: Guns lost 6 (6 destroyed, 0 disabled) Vehicles lost 2 (2 destroyed, 0 disabled) Assaulting units: 2nd Ussurii Tank Brigade 3rd Ussurii Tank Brigade 6th Ussurii Tank Brigade 66th Rifle Division 35th Rifle Division 44th NKVD Regiment 4th Ussurii Tank Brigade 8th Cavalry Division 5th Ussurii Tank Brigade 215th Cannon Brigade 4th/152nd PVO AA Battalion 177th Howitzer Regiment 1133rd Howitzer Regiment 362nd/367th OM Gun Battalion 1121st Cannon Regiment 1139th Cannon Regiment 155th PVO AA Battalion Defending units: 24th/A Division 24th/B Division 24th/C Division 4th Medium Field Artillery Regiment 53rd Field AA Battalion -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The NZ Vincents again fly home chuffed after a few more hits on the oil at Palembang.
