Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/16/2017 4:53:46 AM)

I will be lucky not to be shocked out...

Alfred -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/16/2017 6:27:40 AM)

The odds favour Japan surviving an Allied shock attack at Singapore to retain the bridgehead.  With the exception of the IJA 4th div, the remaining infantry looks to be in fair shape.  The Allied armour present is weak and the Indian infantry is very poor.  The two Australian bdes are the real hammers in any Allied counterattack and of those one has incurred substantial losses already and the other is not fresh.

Alfred

Grfin Zeppelin -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/16/2017 10:51:04 AM)

Ouch. Do you have follow up troops ?

Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/16/2017 12:21:00 PM)

I have most of 2 more divisions still forming up, and they will head in.

4th Division will head out to recover.

All of the artillery is in excellent shape.

The remaining 4 infantry divisions, some excellent 90 exp troops, unfortunately have 90% disruption. Morale is strong in the high 80s.

There is the hope that the British do counter attack and it goes badly for them which it might with all the artillery present. I have seen that happen before...

Encircled -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/16/2017 7:50:51 PM)

Obvert is too good a player to risk a shock attack I think.

Canoerebel -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/16/2017 8:00:05 PM)

Yeah, Erik will know that the IJ divisions still have a fair amount of AV. He won't be certain about disruption, though he'll have ideas. But his most sobering thought will be: If I shock attack and fail, I'll have weakened my own forces so much that they'll fall two or three weeks earlier than they otherwise would have.

Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/17/2017 2:45:03 AM)

Feb 22, 1942

We both trade merchant ships...IJN gets one off California, and Soviets get one off Hokkaido.

Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/17/2017 2:47:02 AM)

Two bombardment fleets go on against the Soviet shore batteries here...449 guns fired in defense, and the IJN gets a little roughed up. 30 system damage on the Kinugasa.

Singers bridgehead across the river is most likely safe! Beasties visit the runway at Georgetown...this is most likely presaging a major Allied offensive aimed at Singers or the environs.

Sabang features a heavy number of ships, and 50 fighters.

Only a 1/1 DL on Georgetown and the 4 destroyer 2 heavy cruiser force there. But the two crusiers are damaged and in no position to fight.

Good news, bad news Soviet Front...

Seishin on the coast by Rashin is another base with faulty rail lines...partisans I guess.

Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/17/2017 3:11:43 AM)

Sumatra build up...

Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/17/2017 3:21:05 AM)

Burma...at least it is producing at full tilt...nothing damaged here yet. But I have almost no planes to defend Magwe..but the Allies lack infrastructure to start bombing here.

Two good Japanese Divisions at Lashio...and now they are needed at Singers. I will probably replace all of Burma with RTA and reallocate the decent troops to Singers/Sumatra/Java.

Confirmation, not that we needed it.

Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/17/2017 3:57:28 AM)

No doubt this is still quite the mess...but I do feel that I should be able to take Java eventually and establish historic Japanese expansion or slightly more than historic.

Off the table is any move on Port Moresby or Darwin. No India. Not much in China. No Midway.

Sakahlin is doable, and once better fighters arrive might be worthwhile rebuilding the oil there.

I guess, overall my goal is to see Jan 1, 1945.

IJNAF is not much better.

PaxMondo -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/17/2017 4:20:10 AM)

Relatively intact oil so far. Good Job!

Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/17/2017 4:24:51 AM)

I have finally managed to assemble a half decent fighter force in Manchuko. As long as they avoid the Mig-3 squadrons (Soviets have at least 2) they can really cause some havoc.

Runways in Manchuko are pitiful though. Aviation support is extremely short too.

Another rather substantial force of Zeroes is on Hokkaido. Honshu is covered by Petes, Alfs, Nates, Claudes and a sprinkling of Zeroes.

Of course, this means that the Allies still control the air over Singers.

Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/17/2017 4:43:46 AM)

China...the big op going now is Wenchow and then on to grab some more resources and establish the magic highway which I am doing in a very unorthodox manner. Consider it testing the logistics routines.

Reduced cargo ships, the darn Soviets, is simply playing havoc with my ability to bring in resources to Honshu.

Stock solutions no longer apply.

Ugh, 1401 AV at Singapore for the Allies. Rough go.

Yes and no. Djambi has been hit hard. The Allies have pulled no punches in attacking the industry (night bombing, low level, CV strikes, parachute attacks, etc) but even Obvert gets distracted.

I have scoured the Empire for all AA...and thankfully, I brought AA to the SRA in large numbers originally. However, I didn't anticipate the AA not firing at night without searchlights and sound detectors. I really am a big fan of searchlights, now in 1941 and 1942.

The big thing is not to get flustered, Japan is so resilient in 1942, just keep working on the perimeter, the basics. Take advantage of the Allies super aggressiveness.

Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/17/2017 6:04:31 AM)

The Yamashiro...she ate three torpedoes and numerous bombs back when we sank the Yank fleet carrier off Balikpapen. She managed to make Tawi Tawi, where one of the IJN's two AR's has worked on her ever since. Almost ready to head back...I just need to get some ASW and escorts to her.

Major ground units to be bought out of Honshu. 5 Divisions, roughly 5 months. Where will they go? Manchuko? Burma? SRA? China? The brigades are air mobile and can be sent to a converted island base by plane.

ny59giants -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/17/2017 12:51:01 PM)

Do you have a small AA company to march the rail line? Hopefully, that will clear up the problem for further use.

Singapore - I know PP are at a premium, but divide your worse divisions and replace B & C with good leaders to speed up recovery.

I have to send something else, the 20mm AA needs to be working. Obvert flies low when given the chance.

AcePylut -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (9/18/2017 3:27:31 PM)

Just caught up fully with this AAR – man that was a bloodbath there in the DEI in early January holy moly.

You’ve remarked before about how the Allies best strategy is to ‘contest everything right from the start’. Would you say that is fall-out from all the fighting done earlier on this AAR or is that in your experience of all the games you’ve played?
What, in your experience and opinion, leads you to say this?
