June 16th, 1942 High Command screws up, with Zeroes ordered to Chungking or base defense instead sweeping the Changsha pocket, and too low. They get jumped by Flying Tigers and dived on.[:(] The first Sentai does ok, losing 2-1 ratio of planes, but the second squadron gets decimated...they were rookie pilots that were supposed to provide base CAP. Nicks sweep first, one sentai, and there is no fighter CAP present. The Navy bombers, with the greatest distance to fly, strike first. Thankfully, some Oscar pilots accompanied them...because the local Chinese undergoing training decide to intervene. Later in the day the Sally bombers strike too. Bombing Lanchow, Sian, Kunming in China today. Setting up to firebomb Calcutta for pure spite...actually, I am trying to get the Allies to divide their fighter forces and fly CAP in smaller festungs. Tomorrow will bomb ABDA troops in open on Malaya and Sumatra. Will use my float fighters to attempt to whittle down Allied ASW and Naval Search around Singers.

In looking at Japan's fighter shortage, I see now that we are negative 177 fighters which is better than the minus 400 we were six weeks ago. Plus, there are 50+ in the pools.

I have let the kb be spotted here for several days, and it drew the subs...can't really say like a moth to the flames... but there are six ASW task forces patrolling, freshly laid minefields, KB on ASW, land based air on ASW, float planes on night search.
