Got the wrong turn from the Allies...with three games going this happens.

Allied bombardments are always super strong. Three runways closed...plenty of units to absorb the bombardments, even the Wake CD unit at one base, 500 plus mines, all to really no avail.

Ha, you must have gotten mine because I definitely got yours! [:D]

This is why I have different installation folders for each game.

Hi Lowpe - did you have your FP on night recon for this bombardment? I've found that night time recon during a bombardment makes a big difference.

Back to the yards.

Nagato managed to disable one non-combat squad.

June 26,1942

Lots of sub encounters, Sallies strike Chungking for about 30 HI damage but they leave their Oscar Escorts at home...

No attacks on the embedded Kongo....while Japan got focused on Prince of Wales.

Good day for the Allies....

PaxMondo -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (4/14/2018 2:23:29 PM)

Wow, ouch. You had position and CAP, but your CAP simply failed you miserably. [:(]

89 A6M vs 10 F2A should have been a 'Turkey' shoot, but it wasn't. So sorry to see this ...

Junyo's, well they think they saw a bomb and they sink in my experience. They are like a CVE wrapped with an AKE for ignition and a TK center to burn.

witpqs -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (4/14/2018 3:13:24 PM)

Hard to tell without the rest of those combat reports - was the attack low while the CAP was high? Weather? Out of position CAP? [:(]

Yeah.....

Canoerebel -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (4/14/2018 6:34:51 PM)

Jeff is a trooper. He'll be even more dangerous in future games, because any set of circumstances he faces won't be as challenging as what he's dealing with now. What will it take to rattle him?

The Enola Gay with fighter escorts? [:D]

DanSez -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (4/14/2018 8:29:39 PM)

It is like your 'random roll' is stuck at suck.
If you have been running this game all on one machine, I would look at doing a clean install, patch and migrate the next turn over to another platform.

This much bad luck is unnatural.

Is your copy of 'My Little Pony' still helping or are we at the 'What Dreams May Come' level yet (Orpheus in the Underworld).

Alfred -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (4/15/2018 7:47:04 AM)

There is no point in attributing all these results to just bad luck.

The logical answer is that the Allies are doing many things well and Japan is operating in the opposite direction.  What is needed is a forensic analysis of what has transpired to see where improvement is possible and how to specifically counter Allied settings.

Alfred

Canoerebel -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (4/15/2018 12:21:40 PM)

Jeff hasn't attributed anything to luck, so far as I know. He's just soldiering on quietly in a difficult game. To the extent others have, they are being polite, seeking a respectful way of offering support.

I'm not discounting your thoughts. And I agree with Canoerebal that Jeff has not bemoaned the gods of dice during this game.

Still, for a minute there when I first read your post, I had a flash-back to younger days watching Star Trek on the telly. You sounded remarkably Spock-like in this post - lol.

PaxMondo -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (4/15/2018 2:04:42 PM)

Well, a fairly even CV battle. IJ would have had ~550 AC .vs. ~450 AC, but the allies had some LBA CAP support. And the allied groups might have been bigger, depending upon what Jeff did with his CLV and Junyo groups. Bonus for the allies is that the P40 is better than the F4F, so their CAP was both quantitatively better and qualitatively better than expected. We can't see the numbers with the abbreviated CR's, but on the surface this was an even fight inn terms of AC on either side or very close to it. [:(] That would mean to me, a favorable fight for the allies due to damage control advantage ... IJ ships are so brittle ... [:(]

June 28,1942

Many night bombing runs across the Empire, the normal ABDA fleet naval bombardments, followed by heavy bombings during the day.

The subs are gathering against the stricken KB which made it west of Saigon.

Junyo made port, transferred her air squadrons, and will now burn up.

Alfred, of course, has the right of it.

Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (4/15/2018 2:20:59 PM)

Weather was rain for IJN strike, and partial cloud for the ABDA strike.

30 minutes warning for the Allies, only 15 minutes for the KB.

durnedwolf -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (4/15/2018 2:33:11 PM)

Can I ask what you are/were doing for search patrols?

Betties, Nells, Float planes of all types, Dinah recon, 10% of every torpedo plane, 10% of every other Val.

Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (4/15/2018 3:01:32 PM)

Here is the Allied CAP., my guess is the land based air cap was set to LRCAP a surface task force and not a CV task force....otherwise how could it have shown up in such numbers? Well done.

Allied aircraft
Sea Hurricane Ib x 15
Martlet II x 40
Hurricane IIb Trop x 32
Kittyhawk IA x 21
P-39D Airacobra x 28
P-400 Airacobra x 5
P-40B Warhawk x 14
P-40E Warhawk x 36
F2A-3 Buffalo x 19
F4F-3A Wildcat x 18
F4F-3 Wildcat x 28
F4F-4 Wildcat x 81

Lowpe -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (4/15/2018 3:13:44 PM)

Well, I wonder if the Allied fleet will surge from Singers up to striking distance of Saigon and Cam Ranh Bay to deliver the coupe de grace on the KB?

Or merely look for a sub strikes?

Should be interesting.[:)]

Lokasenna -> RE: Soviets Activated.... (4/15/2018 3:55:04 PM)

Ick. Everything is coming up Milhouse in this one.

Bad luck on your strike. I did notice that you seemed to be using a unit that began the game ashore - in my experience, those kind of gum up the works and are unreliable until they are carrier-trained.

Ahh, the weather was much against you ... that is why your strikes didn't fare well. [:(][:(][:(]

But why your CAP performed so poorly ... that is still unanswered .... [&:][&:][&:]
