Beria -> 2x3+ 010 Soviet (9/6/2019 6:14:34 PM)

T010 Soviet

There is continued disquiet on the kamikaze attack order

quote:

Soviet Supreme Commander
NEW ORDER OF THE DAY
I want every single division to hit every German troops in front of them. Do not advance and capture territory if gains are made. Hold your defensive position ... but attack the enemy as much as you can as well. ... I want the Germans to consume their supplies like fire, ... The more we get the Germans to consume their supplies and get broken/destroyed vehicles, the better we are off.

quote:

Soviet Ground Commander
strong reservations about the kamikaze attack order....We do not have the strength (yet) for that, and the disruption to our forces will make their attacks so much easier... In winter - yes; in 42 onwards - yes, but I do think now is not the time, particularly given the mass losses due to all the pockets. If we were flush with forces, by all means, start the meat-grinder/attrition engine, but we are not.

Beria -> 2x3+ 010 Soviet North (9/6/2019 6:20:37 PM)

T010 Soviet North

There is only a thin screen of brigades between the enemy and the Lake Ladoga ports. And not much in the north-center either.
[image]local://upfiles/56450/ED27FFD4E3D54BF48060463F6351855A.jpg[/image]
quote:

Soviet Ground Commander
consider ship-transporting good value divisions out of the Leningrad pocket via Lake Ladoga; we [need] those forces there bitterly! Several divisions could leave there this turn!

quote:

Soviet Ground Commander
shift from south to North of Moscow really caught me off guard

[image]local://upfiles/56450/BD784F7ABBF74FF1AE68D1E9C5EBC52A.jpg[/image]
quote:

Soviet Ground Commander
strengthen the area north of Moscow!!! - their main attack is coming from there! Defend the Klyasma river line against an attack from the north.

they can pick if they want to cut south west or east of Moscow. West is more conservative, will back most of everything you have west of Moscow, and effectively end the game. East of Moscow is even more ambitious, a bit more risky, but equally can turn into a game ender I fear...

Beria -> 2x3+ 010 Soviet Air (9/7/2019 9:20:39 PM)

T010 Soviet Air

With command of the air in ground commanders hands now air losses increase dramatically - mostly during the Soviet turn.

quote:

Soviet Ground Commander
Air needs to be placed cleverly. We have airbases packed full of short-range fighters sitting in the middle of nowhere 20 hexes behind the front... If no one wants them, please send them south instead of wasting them there where they will do nothing.

I have spotted several unescorted supply runs by German Ju-52s to their spearhead. Those should get badly punished, but at present they are unharmed, leading to more MPs for their tanks, and hence higher losses for us.

Telemecus -> 2x3+ New Thoughts on AAR (9/7/2019 9:43:31 PM)

When I was first encouraged by the others to get out all of the old screenshots and put them up in an AAR for this long running game my thoughts were to do as little as possible beyond that and only do enough to get the story updated for the joiners just before the good weather of the 1942 campaign. I also thought it might be good to try this in a new venue. I should have known though I would have been drawn to do more work on this than I intended! [;)]

I am not putting the sort of time into making an AAR with narratives and descriptions that I have done in the past. Indeed I recommend the current AARs being posted by EwaldvonKleist and Xhoel to see something of quality now. This was only meant to be a record and summary and I thought the best way to do that was let the pictures do the talking.

One interesting by-product has come about from this though. I have been in contact with a few communities of players which either do not speak English or do not normally speak English well. They mentioned that they would not find other AARs here worth following because they do not understand the words. Whereas here they can follow the action in our common language of in-game screenshots. So may be there is a place in future for AARs which are mostly or wholly screenshot based which can be the "International" AARs? Just a thought.

Telemecus -> 2x3+ 010 Soviet (9/8/2019 12:00:06 PM)

T010 Soviet

When we get turn 11 back at the start we can see what the Soviet team did during their turn.

quote:

Axis Ground Commander
The reason they didn't get any industry out is because they railed stuff in
60 divisions, even of shells, is a lot of railcap

[image]local://upfiles/53894/B1393761A52E4E29A78C34C6CFD26E14.jpg[/image]
quote:

No idea
What is STAVKA doing in the south? What is he trying to defend? Rostov and the Donbass should be the places to defend, not the Kahrkov area, there is nothing there now, and they have gotten themselves in dire straits. I bet the Panzerkorps making the BU is going to cut lots of units next turn around Poltava unless they start retreating now.

They lost 375 aircraft in their turn? How?
24 good recon losses - they might run out even without any help from us - they reconned as far as Odessa in the south?
quote:

Axis Ground Commander
Means they dont use staging And use crappy flightpath...
flak certainly did a good job...we did concentrate a lot in the few places I guessed they would go

U2VS airgroup spotted! They are using modern fighters, fast medium bombers and Il-4s mostly.
Modus operandi is to bomb all the panzers, plus bomb infantry near Leningrad.
quote:

Axis Ground Commander
They were even bombing Rumanian units a long way behind lines! Why...

Telemecus -> RE: 2x3+ 010 Soviet (9/8/2019 9:55:50 PM)

quote:

Axis North Commander
30 units appeared from nowhere ... railed in...and smothered the Pz XX...ZOC HQ's so not supplied more than 7 fuel to 5 of your armoured...Two have over 40 fuel though
air supplied the Ilmen pocket - but only got an NKVD to beachead status

Telemecus -> 2x3+ 011 Axis Team Allocations (9/8/2019 10:03:00 PM)

This turn the team protocol was changed to allow any commander to do an air recon go first and before any other. This would mean even if the Supreme Commander was asleep, the others could still do the recon and make their plans during that time.

For information only - attached Turn 11 Axis team allocations

T011 Axis Leningrad

...did bring in the cadet naval brigade Over the Neva (So young they all have to die)...
I need Leningrad Finns and the infantry so .. I attacked this turn to get Leningrad likely 2 turns earlier. I will clear Pushkin and Kolpino this turn so I have the MP's to cross and get Leningrad North next turn. It will mean stuff routing out of the pocket.
