What's the difference between dedicated memory and display memory? I have an integrated video card!

I am assuming your meaning dedicated video memory...basically the amount of memory your video card has available to support graphics in games and such. For this game, 1GB of video memory is listed as the minimum requirement. You just need to look up your video card type and find out if it has the required amount. Sometimes games will still work under the requirements, but no guarantee. You can always try it on steam and return it if it doesn't work (as long as you play less than 2 hours and within 2 weeks). Should be plenty of time to find out and really the only way you'll ever know for sure.

So only dedicated memory is available for the game? The display memory has nothing to do about it? the display memory is a much larger number than the dedicated memory!

Display memory draws from the computers cpu which lowers the values of the cpu performance level. While you might have enough memory for the graphics with a display memory you might then not have enough for the games needs.

On the other hand if you have dedicated memory it won't use the cpu memory until you've used all the dedicated memory up. Therefore no real draw on the cpu and more memory from it left for the games performance.

That's what I've gathered from dedicated vs display memory.

Thank you, that explains it very well!

I was rewarded by Emperor Nero to help me in PBEM![:D]

Toby42 -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/15/2017 4:46:05 PM)

I guess that I'll have to pass on this one! Even though I have a new desktop the integrated graphics card isn't up to the requirements for FOG II. I would cost me more than the game to add a sound card and power supply. I have a GS 8000 with 512 MB from an earlier computer but it had a larger wattage (300) power supply. This one only has 180 watt! Something that I didn't take into account when I bought it!

Thanks for the information...

Thank you!

aaatoysandmore -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/15/2017 8:25:36 PM)

Well, Toby you could give the Steam version a shot as it's not really going to cost you anything to try as long as you refund it within less than 2 hours or 14 days.

I'm reading that it's working on XP and thas not even supported by microsoft anymore and if you turn everything down to min Zak is saying it will work on 512mg dedicated memory.

It's only over if you give up without trying and believe me this game is worth the try. Best game I've played in a long long time. So long I can't even remember how long it was.

ezzler -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/15/2017 9:21:45 PM)

I have FOG1. I found it very boring. And ugly.

is this a much different beast? it certainly looks impressive.
I cannot recall why I found FOG1 so dull. I think there was a strange mechanic. Archers couldn't shoot over line troops or something. It was part of the original table top rules.
Anyway, would you say this was a different engine?

sullafelix -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/15/2017 9:33:25 PM)

FOG II is based upon the same table top rules.

However graphically FOG II is a totally different beast. The engine is in the same family as Pike and Shot.

As has been mentioned, if you buy it on steam you have two hours I believe to get a refund.

After playing it I do not think you will want your money back.

I have FOG1. I found it very boring. And ugly.

I also thought that FOG1 was kinda ugly, FOG2 is much better-looking.

I didn't find FOG1 boring, but eventually got tired of the seemingly random results generated in combat. I understand that this part of the game has been revamped, and the effects seem noticeable, although I haven't played enough yet to confirm 100%.

Archers still can't fire over lines of troops, so if that is your main gripe for some reason, this might not be the game for you...but why does that trouble you?

Generally the game is pretty awesome, and if Steam has that refund period people are referring to, I would definitely check it out. Tons of content (with more coming), an extremely responsive and knowledgeable developer, and a great community--what more could you ask for? [8D]

Alan Sharif -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/16/2017 4:44:28 PM)

I must confess, I was disappointed with FOG, but not so with FOG 2, it's great, so don't let a previous bad experience put you off.

LarryP -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/16/2017 5:05:59 PM)

I played FoG and it gave me many hours of fun. Not very hard but fun. So I bought FoG2 and it is much better so far, but I have only a small amount of time in it. Sure looks nice though.

rico21 -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/18/2017 3:45:11 PM)

After three times[:(], I found the good deployement.[8D]
Next, do you know Akragas?[:D]

2000 points per side yields some huge armies to play with.

I wanted to do slowy and you want XXL![8|]
2000 points, 80 units vs 80 units, Why not?[:D]
And Zakblood likes well King Arthur![sm=happy0029.gif]

Blond_Knight -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/19/2017 1:02:36 PM)

That is one ugly-assed wall. ;) But I want to play some camp battles too.

rico21 -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/19/2017 3:46:27 PM)

you must excuse me, I have never seen beautiful walls.[:D]
what do you mean by camp battle?

Blond_Knight -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/19/2017 5:35:02 PM)

Like attacking or defending an armed camp. An earthen parapet, a ditch, guard towers, that sort of thing.

HudsonGame -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/19/2017 5:36:25 PM)

I picked up this game and it is head and shoulders better that the original. A few years back I tried Field of Glory and found it VERY clunky. Field of Glory II is impressive. Glad I made the purchase. Kudos to the developers.

rico21 -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/19/2017 6:42:55 PM)

Camp Battle like Fort Alamo, no problem, add to my to do list![sm=00000028.gif]
B-L-I-M-E-Y, winnable or not winnable?[:D]

Blond_Knight -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/19/2017 11:23:41 PM)

More like Autuatuca, a mini Alessia, or the Legions attacking a Gallic or Celtic town.

ezzler -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/20/2017 7:02:11 PM)

Thanks for that. makes it more tempting.

i still can't recall exactly why i didn't like the original.
But I see that when i bought a newer computer in 2012 I never bothered redownloading it.
Which is a bit of a sad indictment seeing as original xcom and panzer corps made the cut.

zakblood -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/20/2017 7:05:30 PM)

this is a wall m8 (Rico21) and yes i cheated to do it, but atm it was the only option i had

zakblood -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/20/2017 7:06:10 PM)

looks better from the front

[image]local://upfiles/43185/DA863F6D4B154CC8BC409871D86B9C0D.jpg[/image]

would have liked the bits the stuck out to be square, but as yet, round will have to do, don't have the square parts, but can make the wall taller, and also place units on the the parts behind, firing pits and raised platforms etc, just need to work out, steps and gates etc etc, so not a easy task, but i'd guess the developer will add more soon, as i love to play with the editor in any game[;)]

rico21 -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/22/2017 1:31:39 PM)

this is a real wall m8 (Zakblood) and yes i cheated to do it, but atm quit to cheat so do it well.[:D]

Rosseau -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/22/2017 6:30:57 PM)

Those are some nice-looking walls, Rico. I know of your commitment to TotH, but what you can do with this game I can't imagine.

Funny, I had more than 900 FoG1 scenarios, but just found the game boring to play after a while. Probably a combination of things. Plus, all that DLC bought! However, I guess the DAG system and multiplayer were redeeming, but never got into that.

rico21 -> RE: Field of Glory II (10/22/2017 6:47:12 PM)

Hi Mike, forget fog I, a middle game, try fog 2 a superior game in its category.
As for me, I find the same problems as with Battle Academy, the modding creates files too heavy to be downloaded in dedicated forums and enter the official community does not interest me.
I would just make iconoclastic scenarios.[;)]
