m10bob -> RE: Field of Glory II (11/16/2017 12:56:30 PM)

Most of my games for decades have been hex based, but many years ago, I also played on a sand table when a friend had miniatures of the entire Army of the Potomac and Army of Northern Virginia, so I love the graphics of this new game..

I took the plunge last night and it was no problem downloading from the site, and was able to apply the patch as well.

It will take me some time to learn this game so please don't expect any constructive comments from me until I am comfortable with it, lol....[:D]

Oh...I did opt to purchase the boxed version, as I do all my games, because I learned game value is the savings of playing great games over long periods of time, and for me, some games go thru several computers...[;)]

m10bob -> RE: Field of Glory II (11/18/2017 2:57:04 PM)

UPDATE:...Have played a couple of battles now in the tutorial and it is very obvious a lot went into the design of this game.
The tutorial itself lets you get familiar with all the different types of units thruout the different battles, and you learn how terrain and unit type relate to one another.
(Don't try to climb cliffs with elephants, lol).

Even though G.S.Patton is one of my heroes, and he constantly studied the battles of this game, I admit I have neglected my studies of the era, so for me, it is a learning experience, (which is a major good thing.)

The game itself is very "beer and pretzels", but with amazing animated graphics, (to include the bad Hollywood-type guy getting hit and twirling before he falls, lol).

This morning when I entered the game, I was notified new scenarios and Campaigns are already waiting to be downloaded, (showing the user-friendliness of the editor!)

I am sure this is a game we will be playing for years, and will be considered an "Age of Rifles" for this era of history...[&o]

That did 2000 years than Titus Labienus is known to be the greatest lieutenant of Julius Ceasar and no campaign was created in his honor. It is done.

Clovis, itself derived from the Germanic name Hlodovic composed of roots hlod ("renowned, illustrious, glorious") and wig ("fight"). Over the centuries, the name Hlodovic becomes Chlodowig better known as Clovis, then Latinized in Clodovico, which gives Ludovicus, Frenchified in Ludovic and Louis.
Louis is a name that owes its success to the many kings of France(17), who made it a symbol of nobility, but also of glory, courage and justice.
This name is, in 2013, carried by more than 220 000 people in France and is in the top 10 national.

Not only in FOG II, Pyrrhus, he is the guy who lands in a place full of enemies with a handful of men, recruits foreign troops and ****s on the mouth of any enemy, including Romans, who says better?

I find it amazing that you don't know one of the most iconic personages from the antiquity... suffice to say that thanks to his crazy exploits many (if not all) European languages have the expression "Pyrrhic victory".
