apbarog -> RE: Did You Know I Used to Drive a Rollercoaster?: Apbarog(A) vs OPilot(J) (5/14/2020 6:00:02 PM)

Interesting turn. I've played this game, and its predecessors, for decades now. I play just about every day. And still, I sometimes see something that I'd never seen before. And it's another lesson learned.

The Japanese has a huge fighter commitment at Manila, with just patrol boats there. With my carriers so close to Manila, I didn't want my naval bombers to target those unimportant ships and run into the close to 200 enemy fighters. So I had them rest today. Except for the squadrons that I saw were trained in ASW. I put several dive bomber squadrons and at least one torpedo squadron on ASW. What happened was eye opening.

This was just from the morning phase. The same happened in the afternoon. I'd never seen such a slaughter of search planes. But wait! I didn't have any bomber squadrons on search! The Seagull losses were understandable. But the bomber squadrons were on ASW duty! Apparently they can get shot down also, and in droves. And they spotted, and attacked, normal ships, which was particularly unexpected. So, there's always more to learn in this game.

The enemy did try to attack the armada. I didn't learn what ships were targeted, since no bombers made it through. Here was the first attack:

Morning Air attack on TF, near Lucena at 79,80

Weather in hex: Light cloud

Raid detected at 114 NM, estimated altitude 13,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 37 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M5 Zero x 24
B6N2 Jill x 18

Allied aircraft
Sea Hurricane Ib x 12
F4F-4 Wildcat x 10
FM-1 Wildcat x 31
F4U-1A Corsair x 60
F6F-3 Hellcat x 396

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M5 Zero: 3 destroyed
B6N2 Jill: 8 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
FM-1 Wildcat: 2 destroyed

It had to be discouraging for OPilot to run into 396 Hellcats. With so many enemy carriers lost, the fight is no longer a fair fight. But such is war. And it's only the end of 1943. I wonder what the CAP could be in a year from now.

Multiple enemy attacks followed, with the results all the same: every attacker shot down. Total air losses were 26 Jills, 24 Lilys, 13 Vals, 6 Judys and 5 Zeros. Allied losses in the ASW activity over Manila were 14 SBD-5s, 8 SB2C-1s, 7 SOC-1s, 3 TBFs and 2 OS2U-3s.

B-24s hit Clark AFB, finding some Jacks defending on ranged CAP. 6 Sallys, 5 Dinahs, 1 Lily and 4 Tojos were destroyed on the ground.

Paras took an empty Lucena. Thousands of men will start unloading there today. Batangas will be invaded. I'm leaning towards isolating the enemy at Davao, but that will take some time, having to close all of the hex sides.

BBfanboy -> RE: Did You Know I Used to Drive a Rollercoaster?: Apbarog(A) vs OPilot(J) (5/14/2020 8:52:10 PM)

On one of the threads recently some players (mostly IJ) exchanged info about setting up CAP traps for the Allies using subs as bait. Looks like your opponent tried it out. I think it a bit gamey because the AI does not let you send escorts with your ASW aircraft.

I don't think so. 79,77 is Manila in my stock game.

It is simply what happens when ASW search flies into a heavy CAP. Lrcap is a lot less effective especially at range.

Most JFB's can't put up more than one squadron to search when the deathstar steams by late war, because the losses are so large.

I think that altitude plays a very important role in the severity of losses due to searching, and generally most people fly ASW very low and hence get higher losses. Flying very high seems to minimize the losses greatly.

It is also possible that the present subs in Manila acted like bait for the searching ASWs, drawing them in like a magnet. Especially if you were within the 360 degree autosearch range. I believe, but am not certain, that works for ASW as well as NavS.

It is the presence of so many sub TFs in Manila that made me think - CAP Trap.

Japan needs the midgets there because he foolishly didn't garrison Bataan with CD guns. Or at least he did from the picture, perhaps there are troops there? There is nothing else there protecting those fighters. Obvert would have spanked me for that slip up. That is if I could have taken Manila in the first place.[:D]

There had been an ACM at Bataan, so I've been cautious about rushing into Manila to bombard. I working on clearing the way now, cautiously.

Lubang, close to Manila, was invaded. I did so to potentially mine the island, helping to protect the landings. The mining may not be necessary. No sign of enemy combat ships near Luzon. I may save the mines for later.

Batangas was invaded. All troops were unloaded in one day.

I have a question. Does a properly loaded AGC help with unloading amphibious task forces at a friendly base? I had the choice of moving my AGC task force to Batangas to help with the amphibious assault landing, or move to Lucena to help with amphibious unloading there, at a base that is already mine. I figured that the Batangas troops would unload in one day without the AGC, and they did. No way to tell if the AGC helped at Lucena. I do know that the APAs unload slower at a friendly (small) base than during an amphibious assault. The APAs at Lucena unloaded about halfway, compared to the ones at Batangas that emptied of all troops. But I do wonder about the use of the AGC.

I tried sweeping Manila, and it didn't go great. 21 P-38s ran into 6 Jacks, 27 Georges, 40 Tojos, 42 Tonys and 36 Franks. It was ugly. 50 P-47s came later and did better. Total air losses were 17 P-38s and 4 P-47s for the downing of 5 Tojos, 3 Tonys, 3 Georges and 1 Frank. It's going to take the battleships to shut down Manila. Of course, the enemy will move the planes to Clark, but maybe I can catch them first.

Busanga was invaded. It is not defended. Busanga will be my rearming naval base.

I noticed that my pilot on the top of the kills leader board, for pilots still alive, is 1 Lt. R.D. Keator, with the 23rd Fighter Group, 75th Fighter Squadron. He has 17 kills. Amazingly, he's still flying a P-40K, and is in China. Remember, this is a PDU OFF game. Still using old airframes here and there.

Looking up Randall Keator in the real world, he is said to have downed the first Japanese plane in World War II, in a P-40 at Manila. Here's a story written in 2017 in his hometown:

BBfanboy -> RE: Did You Know I Used to Drive a Rollercoaster?: Apbarog(A) vs OPilot(J) (5/16/2020 2:12:51 AM)

I don't think the AGC/Amphib Force HQ helps with Amphib unloading at a friendly base. It is there to coordinate the waves of landing craft going in to the beach and getting away from it before the next wave - it can't do that at a friendly port.

Near Swatow, Grunion hit CM Okinoshima with a torpedo. This appears to be the big convoy that left Lingayen Gulf in a hurry. Grunion was gravely damaged in the shallow water by destroyer Wakazuki. 2 depth charge hits and some near misses. Grunion is in trouble, suffering 4 flooding message after the fight. It is SYS 37/FLOT 89-28/ENG 1-0/FIRE 0. Only good luck will save her. A nearby sub is ordered to join up and escort the damaged sub south. I don't know if another sub can help a damaged sub like another ship can help a damaged ship, but it's worth trying. I've done it before and been successful, but it could have been just good luck.

An enemy unit originally at Zamboanga has moved into Dumanquilas on Mindanao. The enemy is depleted, and probably out of supply, but is numerically superior to the SeaBee unit there. US bombers have been hitting the enemy and will continue today. I expect an enemy attack. I hope that the engineers hold the base. I've got better things to do than have to take it back.

Geez - Mac needs an ARD that big to haul his ego?! [sm=nono.gif]

According to Alfred other vessels can only help a damaged vessel in firefighting. But another sub could intercept enemy ships before they get a bead on your damaged sub. And the damaged sub could save the captain of the damaged one if it comes to that. I think that damage is survivable if the sub can get into a hex with no enemy vessels in it. There is a lot of minor float that can be pumped and system damage is not too bad.

Very interesting fight at Dumanquilas, on Mindanao. The enemy unit that had been kicked out of Zamboanga moved to the weakest part of the blocking line to the east: Dumanquilas. I had had a SeaBee regiment there, along with a SeaBee battalion. I moved out the regiment, hoping that the battalion could hold the base if the enemy moved in. They did move in, and the issue is in doubt.

The engineers won't hold as is, even with the enemy being out of supply. I'll continue bombing the enemy, but I have 2 cruiser task forces rushing to the base at full speed. They will hopefully bombard by the end of the day. I'm also dropping in some paras to help hold the base. OPilot was probably content with a suicide shock attack, but he'd be more happy to capture the base, even if the unit is still isolated there. I'll try to stop that from happening.

40 Oscars swept Batangas, finding 15 P-47s. Oscars were downed. Then 36 Franks swept. More P-47s lost than Franks.

16 Corsairs swept Sorong, finding 18 A6M5 Zeros. More enemy down than Corsairs lost.

Flying from Dobo, 14 Boomerang C-12s attacked xAKL Tainichi Maru near Biak. 2 Zeros were protecting. 2 bombers were lost, with a Zero downed. The Boomerangs missed with their bombs but two cannon shells hit, doing little damage. A few B-25Gs then joined in.

Japanese Ships
xAKL Tainichi Maru, Shell hits 3, Bomb hits 3, heavy fires, heavy damage
xAKL Kofuku Maru, Shell hits 4

I noted several 75mm gun hits on the ships.

US bombers hit Cebu's airfield and light industry. There are a couple of enemy units there. They will be bypassed. Some industry destroyed and moderate airbase damage done.

Total air losses for the day were 10 Zeros, 8 Oscars and 4 Franks, for the cost of 6 P-47s, 2 B-25Gs, 2 Boomerangs and an F4U.

A US infantry division and some artillery moved into Manila, joining 3 armor units already there. The artillery will bombard today, in order to see just what the enemy has there. Then I will decide if a northern Luzon landing is needed. If it is, units on Mindanao will be used, after they leave the Davao vicinity and walk to Cagayan. If it is not needed, the Mersing invasion will be next. Then all of the good landing ships will head to Java to get the troops.

No sign of the enemy battleships. Maybe they got spooked when they were spotted and bugged out.

Grunion incurred 2 more SYS damage, and FLOT damage went down 1. It is now SYS 44 and FLOT 90, and moving just one hex a day. It has a long way to go to the nearest port. I'm afraid that a further rise in SYS damage may doom the ship, if a few more flooding events don't do so first.

apbarog -> RE: Did You Know I Used to Drive a Rollercoaster?: Apbarog(A) vs OPilot(J) (5/21/2020 12:37:32 AM)

2 Dec 43

4 US YMS move back to Bataan, and sweep a bunch of mines. There are more of them still.

Saury hit xAKL Kofuku Maru with a torpedo near Sansapor. B-25Gs from Dobo hit the damaged ship later in the day, sinking it with 6 500 pound bombs and 4 shell hits.

I'd moved 2 Spitfire squadrons to Langsa on Sumatra. OPilot noticed the fighters there. First 41 Oscars swept, with 26 Spitfire VIIIs on CAP. More Spits lost than Oscars. Then 41 Franks swept, finding just 5 Spits left, and downed all of them. 53 Sallys then bombed the airbase, but did just moderate damage in severe storms.

B-24s from Rangoon hit Haiphong's port for the first time, but found 42 Oscars on CAP. Several Oscars were shot down, but many bombers were damaged. Almost no damage done to the port in light rain. I was hoping for some ships in port, but there may not have been any. I just realized that I may not have reset the bomber orders for the next turn.

B-24s and B-25s did light damage to Manila's airfield. 10 Jacks and 16 Franks on a ranged CAP from Clark. Then 12 more B-25 arrived and all were shot down. I don't remember ordering B-25s to Manila, but I did so. The heavies stand up better to the enemy fighters.

I don't use full speed movement very often with my carriers, but I've ordered them towards Babeldaob. There's been a big support task force, with an AS and other ships in it. OPilot keeps his support ships in task forces often, at bases that I've bombed the ports before. It's a good plan when the Allies don't use the long ranged heavy bombers for naval strikes. Also, there's a big task force there also. Probably a combat task force, possibly a carrier task force. I'm seeing just 26 enemy fighters at Babeldaob. My carriers are near Jolo and aren't needed until the loading for Lingayen Gulf is complete.

No fireworks, BBfanboy. Sorry.

3 Dec 43

6 enemy MTBs attack 4 US YMS's sweeping mines at Bataan. A few shells were fired by the YMS's but no hits achieved. The fight closed to 3,000 yards briefly, then the range expanded and the forces broke off.

Cruisers Shropshire, Detroit and Concord, with 5 US destroyers, bombarded Davao. 196 casualties, and moderate damage to the airbase. Battleship Idaho has now joined this force and will hit Davao tonight. I'm pulling out most of my troops from Davao, and will leave the enemy in control of the base, but with no movement possible except to Malaybalay. Bombardments and bombings will continue.

Submarine Dace hit timy AMc Chikuko Maru at Laoag, sinking the ship.

The big enemy transport force stayed at San Fernando and continued unloading troops. 25 P-47s swept, and found 34 Tonys and 11 Zeros on CAP. The Thunderbolts did well. Then 24 more P-47s swept, finding about half as many enemy, and did very well. 3 squadrons of SBDs had orders of naval attack. The first squadron arrived at San Fernando without escort, and ran into 4 Zeros and 3 Tonys. SBDs were lost. 7 bombers dropped bombs, with one bomb hitting AK Tosan Maru. The second SBD squadron arrived with 24 P-40Es escorting. (Yes, P-40Es. This is a PDU OFF game, and these Warhawks don't upgrade to something better until some time in 1944.) 11 enemy fighters were mostly tied up by the Warhawks. 13 SBDs dropped bombs. 2 bombs hit AK Kinka Maru, setting heavy fires. A bomb hit Sakura Maru. 89 enemy troop casualties. Moderate rain affected things, I think. The third SBD squadron didn't fly.

The enemy attacked troops at Manila for the first time, using 26 Sallys with 6 Jacks and 19 Tojos. Just 7 P-47s were on ranged CAP, and no planes were lost for either side. 111 Allied casualties on the ground.

B-24s from Rangoon inadvertently attacked Haiphong's port again, after taking heavy damage yesterday. But the enemy Oscars were gone, and the bombing went better today. Still no ships in port though. Some supply and fuel hits. I forgot to reset their orders.

The enemy unit that had moved from Davao to Malaybalay is II/4th Infantry Battalion.

B-24s from Mindanao hit Babeldaob's port and airfield. ACM Wa 5 was sunk. Moderate damage to the airbase, minor damage to the port. All of the enemy task forces had fled, so my carrier raid wouldn't have found any targets if the ships had moved as ordered.

Total air losses on the day were 23 Tonys and 9 Zeros for the cost of 15 SBDs, 5 P-47s and 4 P-40Es.

Grunion added another point of SYS damage and a point of ENG damage. It is now SYS 46/FLOT 89-28/ENG 3-0/FIRE 0. It still has more than a week of travel time to get to a friendly port. We keep hoping for the best.

Many mixed force cruisers bombarded Cebu causing 422 casualties and lots of base damage. Cebu will be bypassed but I want the light industry destroyed. And everything else.

Battleship Idaho and friends bombarded Davao, but it was a poor bombardment. Just 47 casualties and very little base damage. Idaho will now bombard every day.

12 B-24s hit Pontianak's port, sinking ACM Toshi Maru #8.

Permit hit xAK Ryoyu Maru with a torpedo near Swatow.

A tank unit took Naga.

Enemy cruisers spotted north of Borneo. Dutch sub O23 was hit by a depth charge.

BC Repulse and British escorts ran over I-155 on the way to bombarding Brunei, but couldn't hit the sub. That was costly, as CL Kenya was torpedoed once on the way back. I-155 was hit by a depth charge in the second encounter. The Repulse task force sank AMc Awa Maru quickly, then bombarded effectively:

Night Naval bombardment of Miri at 64,87

Oil hits 2

Airbase supply hits 6

Port hits 15
Port fuel hits 1
Port supply hits 2

Brunei is to be bypassed and suppressed indefinitely. I'd like to finish off the oil centers, but it's becoming increasingly dangerous for the enemy to try to get the oil out, with Jesselton and Kudat in Allied hands. Airfields are building on both, not big enough for bombers yet.

BB Idaho and escorts bombarded Davao again, and it was another weak bombardment, with 83 casualties and minimal base damage.

Seeing that I had moved some Spits from Langsa to Padang, hoping to rest them a bit, OPilot hit Padang, led by a big Frank sweep. The Spits were on the ground, and several were bombed.

All but one Allied unit has retreated from the Canton area into the woods. The one straggler is the one British unit in China: the 3rd Carabiniers Regiment. They are nearly completely disabled from daily bombing, and OPilot saw today just how badly hurt they are, as he did an artillery attack. He'll attack today and may eliminate the unit entirely. They just couldn't get into the woods going off road fast enough.

The enemy was kicked out of Naga. The 2/5th Armoured Regiment is now following into Legaspi.

Subic Bay flipped to the Allies today. Too bad this didn't happen in a week, when I plan on landing nearby. As it is, I don't want to draw attention to that coast, so I won't do anything like fly in troops on seaplanes or use paras. Subic has a port but no airfield. Maybe an enemy unit at Lingayen will move to Subic to recapture the base, making Lingayen an easier landing next week. Regardless, we're going to the northwestern coast of Luzon in about a week. Troops are loading on Mindanao.

The saga of the badly damaged sub Grunion continues. Today it had one flooding event. It gained 2 SYS, 2 FLOT and 1 ENG damage, giving it SYS 49/FLOT 92-28/ENG 3-0/FIRE 0. It's still on the edge of survival, moving one hex a day, with another week to get to a base.

6 Dec 43

Battleships West Virginia and Arizona moved past the mines at Bataan successfully, and ran into 6 MTBs at Manila, at night. The range closed to 2,000 yards, and a couple of torpedoes were fired, one missing a battleship. One MTB was sunk. The 4 destroyers that were supposed to get to Manila first got there second, and sank AMc America Maru. Midget sub Ha-23 then fired 2 torpedoes at West Virginia and missed. The destroyers then located the midget sub and sank it with depth charges. Arizona and West Virginia then bombarded Manila, but it was a poor effort, with just 149 casualties and minor airbase damage. Oklahoma and Nevada then bombarded Manila, doing better, with 405 casualties and moderate airbase damage. The destroyers then located I-154 and hit it with a depth charge. Not enough damage to sink the sub, however. With daylight, Nevada and Oklahoma engaged the 5 remaining MTBs, and with an amazing display of gunnery, from 18,000 yards down to 14,000 yards, every MTB was sunk. And they were sunk with first shots. It was so odd I suspected that it had to be a bug. Destroyers got 3 of the small craft and Oklahoma got the last 2.

Did a major P-47 effort over Clark. Results were ok but not great. 23 P-47s swept and found 21 Zeros and 52 Tojos. Then 22 P-47s swept and found 19 Zeros and 37 Tojos. Then 18 P-47s found 7 Zeros and 23 Tojos. Total air losses for the day were 17 Tojos and 15 A6M5s for the cost of 17 P-47s. 3 USAAF aces were killed. A lot of the P-47 pilots are aces, though. Two pilots became aces.

The end came for the only British combat unit in China. I should have kept the Chinese divisions with the regiment. The retreating Chinese advanced faster off road into the woods than the British unit did.

I have 2 US divisions at Manado, prepped for Ternate. And I have ample APAs in the area to load them up. I could invade Ternate, with carrier support, and get it done before the northern Luzon invasion, or I could load one or two of the divisons and take them to northern Luzon with the others. Not sure yet. Shipping is dispatched to Manado.

7 Dec 43

More mines swept at Bataan. Tambor spotted a big transport task force passing Soc Trang after leaving Bangkok. I had SigInt that a unit was loaded and headed for Bangkok. It's more likely that it was already loaded at Bangkok and leaving, but I don't know.

British sub Tally Ho spotted I-11 near Langsa but missed it with 2 torpedoes. Maybe I should use the sub for spotting only.

The 4 slow US battleships bombarded Manila again, and again, results weren't great. They'll continue, but now all in one task force. I replaced a couple of the captains. BB Idaho did its nightly bombardment of Davao, and did better than the others.

Sub Harder hit E-boat Sokuten near Laoag. The ship probably sank after combat.

Jacks and Jills attacked 4 US destroyers at Manila. 15 P-38s and 8 P-47s were on ranged CAP, going up against about 12 Jills and 22 Jacks. 8 Jacks and 7 Jills were shot down. 3 Jills launched torpedoes at the destroyers but missed.

Loading continues on Mindanao for the northern Luzon landing. Loading at Manado has begun for the Ternate invasion. One division at Manado will go to Ternate. The Marine division there will reinforce Luzon.

US troops at Malaybalay started to wear down the II/4th Infantry Battalion that had moved there from Davao. Similar type of wearing down attack at Dumanquilas.

Grunion update: +1 SYS damage today, giving it SYS 50 and FLOT 92-28. It has 6 more hexes to travel to get to a safe port at Busuanga.

Enemy mines finally swept completely at Bataan.

A good day for the Silent Service. Sub Ray hit I-154 with 2 torpedoes near Iba, sinking the sub. Cisco spotted battleships Kongo and Kirishima east of Babeldaob. 2 torpedoes missed destroyer Suzukaze. Tullibee hit xAKL Tenposan Maru with a torpedo near Guam, sinking the cargo ship. Tullibee was just passing by Guam, moving from Pearl Harbor to Jolo. Submarine Hoe hit E-boat Sarushima with 2 torpedoes near Taihoku, sinking the ship. Today was just a day when the torpedoes hit.

4 US slow battleships again bombarded Manila, and again, got a mediocre result, with just 208 casualties and minor base damage.

21 P-38Hs swept Manila, finding 18 Franks. 6 planes lost on each side. The first Allied attack at Manila is a good one. Having MacArthur's SW Headquarters nearby, and fully prepped for Manila has to help, along with fully prepped Corp HQs.

Seeing enemy movement now out of Clark and Bataan. May be the beginning of an enemy retreat to the north.

Legaspi was captured, with a single small enemy unit now isolated there.

My goal was to be on Luzon in 1943, and that was accomplished. Now it looks like US troops will be on Formosa before the end of the year. That would be a nice bonus, getting there before the kamikaze threat begins.

9 Dec 43

4 slow US battleships bombarded Manila. 631 casualties and moderate base damage. Significant number of destroyed devices, after yesterday's ground attack.

There was a major enemy fighter sweep effort from Clark to Batangas. I had all of my fighters on CAP. The enemy's luck was high, though, with squadron's sweeping in the order of worst to best, and the bombers coming in after almost all of the sweepers. Even so, the defenders did ok.

28 Tojos swept. 46 P-38Hs and 25 P-47s on CAP. Many Tojos destroyed.
42 Oscars swept. Some Oscars destroyed. One or two P-47s.
28 Franks swept. The P-38s got hurt.
29 Tonys swept. About even losses between Tonys and P-38s.
29 Sallys bombed, unescorted. Only 14 fighters left on CAP, and most bombers got through. A few planes destroyed on the ground.
27 Lilys bombed, unescorted. The CAP got to the Lilys, destroying many.
Finally, 28 Georges swept, finding only about a dozen fighters, and downing almost if not all of them.

Total air losses were 24 Tojos, 17 Lilys, 11 Tonys, 9 Oscars and 2 Sallys for the cost of 25 P-38Hs and 10 P-47s.

A huge victory at Manila. The enemy had built Manila into a size 9 port and size 9 airfield.

Ternate will be invaded, covered only by CVL Hermes and some LRCAP P-47s. The Formosa invasion armada is assembling northeast of Jolo. Troops that just captured Manila begin to prep for Hong Kong, Swatow, Amoy and Chaocow. After Formosa, the next big invasion will be Mersing. China will come after that.

Pescadores doesn't have a repair yard, if I remember correctly. Not sure about the size of the one at Hong Kong. I think it's 50, but I'll need to check. Probably have to set up a recon for it next time.

10 Dec 43

ARD Haiphong is spotted running away from Manila. It is intercepted multiple times by YMS task forces clearing mines at Manila and Bataan, but neither side wanted a fight and the ARD made it safely out of Manila to Bataan. An ACM made it one hex further. Many mines were cleared at Manila, and there are still more.

Ternate was invaded. Midget sub Ha-26 was sunk by escorting destroyers. One US division is landing, and will face one enemy regiment. Tanks and artillery are still unloading so no attack today.

Enemy air hit Chinese troops at Wuchow hard. Clear terrain. Not pulling out though.

The only enemy unit still at Manila, the 16th Army HQ, is attacked at 1031 to 1 odds, and wasn't destroyed. It retreated to Clark, and 3 US armor units were set to reserve mode and pursued. There's over 40,000 enemy troops at Clark. They show movement out of Clark, but the enemy could attack the unsupported tanks there.

The mainland of Sumatra is completely in Allied hands now. Medan had been evacuated, for all practical purposes. Another big oil producing base captured, undamaged.

BBfanboy -> RE: Did You Know I Used to Drive a Rollercoaster?: Apbarog(A) vs OPilot(J) (6/1/2020 6:05:43 AM)

In stock, Pescadores does have a shipyard but I can't remember the starting size. HK SY is definitely 50 at game start. There are also SYs at Naha and Nago.

I think at least one version of Ironman has a size-50 yard at Pescadores. That's a nice one to capture. Also, I think a simple base mouseover will tell you about the size of any yards present (no need for recon).

Cheers,
CB

This is a DBB-B game. Hong Kong has a 50 shipyard. Pescadores has a 10. Naha and Nago have size 5.

All troops have unloaded at Ternate, and will attack today.

All enemy mines have been cleared at Manila.

The US destroyers that rushed to Batan Island were successful.

They could have had a bigger haul if they'd gone to Takao, but they may have hit mines there. The xAP did not have troops on it. Since the ships had been seen there for at least a couple of days, I can assume that the troops had unloaded already. Nice to get a bunch of E-boats.

In the backwater of the Solomons, a small Allied force invaded unoccupied Terapo, on the coast of New Guinea north of Port Moresby. No real significance here. The troops had been prepped long ago. Just clearing the south coast.

Submarine Cod fillets a battleship.

Sub attack near Peleliu at 90,100

BB Kirishima
BB Kongo
CL Natori

More enemy bombing of the Chinese at Wuchow. Lots of Allied fighters moved to Kweilin and Nanning, north of Wuchow. Most will LRCAP Wuchow today and hope for the best. Second-line fighters being used, still, in China. The A-Team is in the Philippines.

Lots of ships headed to Formosa. They'll move north of Bataan today.

Grunion is now just 3 hexes from safety, but it added 2 SYS damage. It's now SYS 57 and FLOT 94-28. Will she make it home?
