It’s slim margins. A 6 instead of 5 on the Allied initiative re-roll would’ve given the Allies the initiative. French be back behind Maginot line and Yugoslavia back to the mountains. Failing that, I think there’s a pretty good chance of rain or worse but it went fair. Makes the difference between what would have been a successful raid and now probably not. Going back to the second impulse, the French rolled one short of remaining organised, which may well have seen them back in France by now.

Aircraft stay grounded, thanks. Pick Assault.

warspite1 -> RE: Folly a deux: AllenK vs Warspite1 AAR (1/26/2019 8:20:13 PM)

Nov/Dec 1939
Impulse: 1 (Axis)

Land Combat: (cont)
Germany

HQ Support is rolled and are total failures; a 10 and an 8 are thrown. I don't know which way around it was as the MWIF program doesn't tell you which one it is rolling for. (Un)Fortunately in this case it doesn't matter as neither roll would have worked.

So that leaves three attacks unmodified as follows:

Franco-German Border: 4:1 no modifiers (Assault)
Vienna: 7:1 +1 (Assault)
Lodz: 7:1 no modifiers (Assault)
China: 3:1 (but almost certainly 4:1 with fractionals) +1 (Assault)

Can you confirm the table for the other three attacks please?

AllenK -> RE: Folly a deux: AllenK vs Warspite1 AAR (1/26/2019 8:37:59 PM)

If you can’t retreat into ZOC then Assaults for all, please. If can, Blitz Vienna.

I don't understand the retreat stuff fully so in order not to make any errors I will do these one at a time, show you the pictures and then confirm which table.

Nov/Dec 1939

The first attack is on the Franco-German border. The Germans have the choice of table and choose assault.

The roll is a 4 and the French lose a unit (I assume the Infantry as the factors are the same and so save the Motorised). All units are disorganised.

I’d look it up in the manual but can’t as am on a train.

That's fine - I'll do it - but will post what I think rather than goof it up.

AllenK -> RE: Folly a deux: AllenK vs Warspite1 AAR (1/26/2019 8:59:45 PM)

I don’t understand why the French units are disorganised.

I'll look at that after the combats.

The second attack is against Vienna. The odds are 7:1 so has to be Assault or its automatic. The throw is a 1 (2). All attackers are disorganised. The Yugoslavs lose one unit (I choose the weaker, cheaper CAV). I do not convert to retreat but according to retreat priorities I am hoping that the second unit is unable to retreat.

EDIT: Yes, Prince Paul could not retreat as there was only one hex, in ZOC and NOT occupied by a friendly unit.

Land Combat: (cont)

The third attack is against Lodz. Again, it's 7:1 so the Assault table has to be chosen. The roll is a 1 and one unit each is lost and all Germans are disorganised.

Nov/Dec 1939

Land Combat: (cont)
Japan

The last attack is in China. So to be clear this is either 3:1 or 4:1 +1 and the Chinese are able to retreat. What do you want to do?

Edit: A 4(5) is thrown. All attacking units are disorganised and the defender loses one unit. The surviving cavalry are retreated toward Ichang.

Go with Blitz thanks.

warspite1 -> RE: Folly a deux: AllenK vs Warspite1 AAR (1/26/2019 9:33:04 PM)

Where do you want the cavalry to retreat to (see picture above) - either directly west or southwest?

AllenK -> RE: Folly a deux: AllenK vs Warspite1 AAR (1/26/2019 9:34:30 PM)

I think attacker chooses but please check.

Because the defenders took more losses than the attackers 0/1.

Germany didn’t roll well at all. I’m curious to see next weather roll.

AllenK -> RE: Folly a deux: AllenK vs Warspite1 AAR (1/27/2019 12:30:38 PM)

I've posted the question about the missing oil point on Tech Support. In the meantime, since we can't find a rule reason why it shouldn't have saved, I've manually increased the saved oil at Bratislava to 2 points by editing the game file. I can always put is back if it turns out only one oil should have been saved.

I am presuming this image is after Land Movement? Cuz otherwise this leads to a question about this -

Billotte roeorgs the MOT in Germany.

Doesn't the re-org process depend on:

11.18.2 HQ reorganisation
A face-up HQ can reorganise units within range of the HQ. The HQ's reorganisation range is equal to its reorganisation value in motorized movement points.

AllenK -> RE: Folly a deux: AllenK vs Warspite1 AAR (1/27/2019 4:36:52 PM)

It isn't clear on the picture but there's a rail link from Metz, through Strasbourg and to the hex with the MOT. Motorized movement cost is 2 points, which puts Billotte in range.

Ahh, I never play with the Railroad Movement Optional, can never remember that one.

There are some infantry adjustments in Austria as the few weak units there move south. Reinforcements head for Poland. Forces in Denmark move around a bit, and some Infantry/Motorised Infantry head for northwest Germany.

Japan

The forces under Umezu are temporarily given control to Yamamoto (who threatens to resign if he’s not given control) and then ordered to consolidate their position south of the Han. Yamamoto asks his naval forces to occupy Ichang and keep out of the hands of the Chinese working their way north.

The Federal Government remains on lock down and the White House fails to either notice or respond to the continued Japanese aggression.

Air Transport: None

Land Combat:
Japan

Yamamoto orders an attack against the cavalry unit that retreated previously. The attack is automatic even with the weather modifier (25:2 +1), although I’m still being asked to provide fractional odds so maybe it’s not. I best go through the combat rolls just in case. I input the fractional result and sure enough it comes up automatic. Which is a good job as my land throw was a 2.
