witpqs -> AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/12/2019 10:50:48 PM)

I've searched/looked at the release notes and the forum, but I haven't found where anyone posted the actual maximum resolution for AE. I have a new PC & screen with lots of real estate, and I'm wondering if anyone has already established the maximum resolution AE will support?

BillBrown -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/12/2019 11:31:28 PM)

It is not largest I am sure, but it does run at 2560 x 1600

witpqs -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/13/2019 2:37:43 AM)

Thanks. The monitor I bought for the new PC is 3840 x 2160. When I get that far into settings things up I'll let you know.

Someone else posted that they got a 4K monitor and were able to get the game running at full resolution. I think they had to do a fair bit of tweaking of Windows, the monitor software and game switches.

Wow! I'll let you know. Probably a couple or few days before I get to it.

CaptBeefheart -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/13/2019 5:12:02 AM)

I recently got a 27" 2560x1440 monitor and messed with it a lot trying to get the full resolution. I finally gave up and settled for a windowed 1920x1080, which covered about 80-90% of the screen anyway, and I don't have to squint. So, I guess you could say my point is "settling for less than the maximum resolution may be a perfectly acceptable solution." Another point is Seabee's set-up utility saves a lot of time when you're tweaking the startup switches.

Cheers,
CB

3840 x 2160

3840 divided by 16 = 240

2160 divided by 9 = 240

So as to give yourself a little margin around the window, I would suggest you use a multiplier of 236 and the pxf and pyf switches and play in a big window.

so -pxf3776 -pyf2124

No idea if it will work forced to that size.

2560x1440 works that is what I use. dl winexp.exe adjust settings, I use -10, -32 that gives me full screen view, otherwise the bottom row is cut off. Look in the tech help thread for information.

Trugrit -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/13/2019 11:16:32 AM)

For me, the higher resolutions are not worth it.
Too small and often you get distortion, oblong range rings which I hate.

I use 1920 x 1080 in full screen. I have a widescreen monitor and I consider this best for me.

It is clear enough and large enough and it centers perfectly for my widescreen.

I like round range rings.

CaptBeefheart -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/14/2019 12:26:09 AM)

Hanzberger: Actually, I'm quite happy with what I have for a 27" monitor and like I said, I don't have to squint. If my monitor were 32" I'd probably try to max it out. Also, being windowed, I avoid the strange effects I used to get from switching between the game and browser too many times.

Cheers,
CB

HansBolter -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/14/2019 10:58:27 AM)

I have a standard 2k 1980 x 1020 monitor and am forced to run the game at 1280 x 720 to even have a hope of being able to read the text and discern the shape of the icons on the map.

Exactly how microscopic do thing become on the screen if run at full 4k resolution?

The monitor is 32" (32" class they say, actually noting it's 31.5"), so I am hoping it will be big enough.

I

If you set your pxf/pyf switched to a consistent multiplicand of 16/9, that should not happen.

I'm running on 27" 2k monitor now and will likely acquire a 32" 4k by Christmas, but still have every expectation of having to reduce resolution to be able to make anything legible.

I realize I am likely a special case with my Coke bottle bottom spectacles.

Without corrective lenses I have 20/180 vision in my left eye with 7.5 diopters of astigmatism and 20/240 vision in my right eye with 8.5 diopters of astigmatism.

20/200 vision WITH corrective lenses is legally blind in the US.

Hanzberger -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/15/2019 10:02:02 AM)

For me 1980 x 1020 was distorted looking on this monitor. I do wear glasses also. I have a second monitor that I run other programs with so I do not need to close out the game, other wise it would act funny opening and closing. The second monitor is 1980x1020. I specifically went out and bought one since returning to the game. I think it was 200.00. ASUS.
You should always try running programs in the native resolution.

Moltrey -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/15/2019 9:20:21 PM)

Yeah, I have done the resolution shuffle for WITP:AE a LOT lately (borderless window thread if interested).

I also picked up a LG 32UK50T monitor this summer with 3840x2160 native resolution.

There are two problems.
1. The game doesn't want to display correctly if I put -pxf3840 -pyf2160 under the launch parameters in the AE icon.
2. When I could see the game the graphics were so small it is all but impossible to play.

I have resorted to and use permanently now a 2560x1440 setting with the LG. My older NEC 16-10 PA302W monitor will work at 2560x1600 with AE and all is fine.

The exact same model!

Are you doing that full screen mode or windowed mode?

BillBrown -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/16/2019 7:35:28 PM)

I have been looking at a LG 32UD59-B from Newegg. They are selling them at $346.99USD.

Windowed mode.

If I try to use fullscreen now, I start getting the desktop graphics "peeking" through (in squares) when I move the mouse over locations and units on the pacific map. Frustrating. That and it doesn't allow for fluid task-switching to Kull's spreadsheet and all the game aids I have on hand.

Also, YMMV, but I ended up uninstalling the LG settings program that gets installed. It was causing some issues with DisplayFusion Pro. It may have contributed to other wonkiness on my PC too.

My default method of starting is never pop in the disc which comes with printers, displays, etc. I only resort to them if needed because things aren't working right. I purchased the PC and the screen ala cart, so I'm pretty sure there is no LG settings program in there so far.

DisplayFusion Pro - what is that?

BTW, the only reason I went with full screen at all on the current (old) PC was the jumping during turn resolution. I'm hoping it will work in widowed mode on the new PC, but not up to the point of testing it yet.

I bought an LG 18" panel about five years ago. Within a few months it developed a couple of one-pixel vertical lines where the display was dead. Currently it has dozens (perhaps a hundred) of dead lines (only in the vertical display, not horizontal). At one pixel width each they don't distort any image enough to bother my old eyes. But it does indicate a quality control issue.

My daughter also had two expensive LG appliances (washer and dryer) which she had to replace because they had all kinds of bugs in their operation and the warranties were not honored to her satisfaction.

BillBrown -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/18/2019 1:40:51 AM)

I have an LG 55" 4K OLED TV which has worked great for the last few years. The model I was looking at has a lot of good reviews.
My current 30" DELL U3014 is over 6 years old and I have no idea how much longer it will last. So far, no problems.

Please check the Tech Support area of the forum and look for Korvar's sticky (at the page top) thread "How to Run WiTP:AE in Fullscreen Windowed (Borderless Windowed) Mode"
It may even help you out.

witpqs -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/20/2019 12:39:59 PM)

Interesting - thank you!

I'm still not able to devote the time to it that I need to. Be a few days.

This is working great for now, maybe I'll try to up it a little bit later on. I am using -dd_sw, got a little funky without it.

I have -deepColor set at the moment; are you guys finding it helps or is it unneeded?

PaxMondo -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/23/2019 8:14:55 PM)

definitely prefer -deepColor

PaxMondo -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/23/2019 8:16:55 PM)

"..\\..\\WitpAE - Andy Update\Beta2\war in the pacific admiral edition.exe" -w -cpu4 -skipVideo -autosave -dd_sw -altFont -pxf1920 -pyf1024 -deepColor -archive

this is on a 32" class … I can't go more due to MY eyes, haven't tested higher res, I would need a much bigger monitor and no space in my office for it.

Ian R -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/23/2019 11:41:33 PM)

I use, with a 1920/1080 monitor:

quote:

... -wd -skipVideo -deepColor -dd_sw -cpu2 -pxf1872-pyf1053 -archive -altFont -autosave

My pxf/pyf gives me a window that is a little less than full screen, which I find useful (and it is 117 x 16/9, so no distortion.)

witpqs -> RE: AE Max Screen Resolution? (11/24/2019 3:05:08 AM)

Now I'm at this:

"C:\Matrix Games\WITP AE - PBM #1\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -cpu4 -deepColor -dd_sw -archive -wd -pxf2656 -pyf1654

So 2656 x 1654, which is taking up the entire vertical space above the task bar (I don't auto-hide it). I have some space left over on the sides but the text editors, Tracker, whatever are there so I can click on them easy. And the map is huge!
